As a contributory cause, taking the root of virtue from offering a small amount of well-spoken offerings to all the holy places as a representation and basis, no matter when virtue is done, no matter by whom it is done, no matter what kind of thing is done, all can be gathered and summarized and dedicated as one's own. Just as it is said in the extremely vast Avatamsaka Sutra: "All the virtuous deeds of sentient beings, those that have been done, are being done, and will be done, as well as all the virtuous grounds, may all of them be virtuous." And as it is said in the Compendium: "All the sons of the Buddhas and the Shravakas, those with learning and without learning, the virtuous roots with outflows and without outflows, are all gathered together." Therefore, secondly, the object of dedication is not the fruit of worldly happiness, nor a one-sided Nirvana, but should be dedicated only to the state of Buddhahood, which is non-abiding Nirvana and knows all aspects. Just as it is said in the Mother of the Conquerors: "All roots of virtue, except for knowing all aspects, cannot be dedicated to the state of the Shravakas and Solitary Buddhas." And as it is said in the Sutra of Complete Dedication: "These roots of virtue, I dedicate to the state of Buddhahood." Therefore, thirdly, the ritual of how to dedicate is divided into two: the view of being seized by the selflessness of all phenomena, and the means of being propelled by the mind of enlightenment. The first of these, the view of being seized by selflessness, is that in the ultimate sense, all phenomena are without inherent existence, so merit is also without characteristics to be fixated on. But in conventional truth, all the agents, objects, and virtuous roots of how it was done are dedicated with the understanding that they appear like a dream of yesterday but are not established in inherent existence. Just as it is said in the Sutra: "Just as in a perfectly pure mirror circle, the appearance of a face circle without inherent existence, so should the wise know all phenomena." And as it is said in the Mother: "If one fixates on characteristics, it is not a dedication to enlightenment. If one does not fixate on characteristics, it is a dedication to enlightenment." The latter, the means of being propelled by the mind of enlightenment, is to dedicate all roots of virtue in common with sentient beings who pervade the sky. Just as it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "Whether directly or indirectly, for the benefit of sentient beings.

I will do nothing else. For the sake of sentient beings alone, may all be dedicated to enlightenment! Thus it is said. The reason for this is that virtues not grasped by the mind of enlightenment are exhausted after ripening once, but virtues grasped by the mind of enlightenment do not diminish even after the fruit has arisen, but increase more and more. As stated in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: All other virtues are like banana trees, which are exhausted after producing fruit. The tree of the mind of enlightenment always bears fruit and increases without end. Therefore, the nature of dedication through the means of wisdom is: the mind that transforms the root of virtue into the desire for enlightenment, and the power of special words combined. As stated in the Mañjuśrī Field of Qualities: All dharmas are causes, and they abide at the peak of desire. Whatever aspiration is made, it will be accomplished accordingly. Thus it is. The difference between dedication and aspiration is: dedication is when the cause of virtue comes first, and then words and aspirations are combined. Aspiration is when there is only aspiration without the cause of virtue coming first. So, here, I will make a symbolic dedication and aspiration that seeks and transforms into perfect enlightenment. Just as our teacher, when he was King Loving Strength, gave his flesh and blood to the yakshas and said: By this merit, may I quickly attain the state of omniscience, subdue all enemies of faults, and liberate beings from the ocean of birth, old age, sickness, and death. And also, may I be matured by empowerment, possess the vows of samaya, complete the practice of the two stages of the path, effortlessly enter the state of vidyadhara, and easily attain the two kinds of accomplishments. May the wheel of peaceful and wrathful manifestations prophesy, may the dakinis care for me like a child, may the Dharma protectors eliminate all obstacles, and may all wishes in my heart be fulfilled. May the Buddha's teachings flourish and spread, may all the wishes of the upholders of the teachings be fulfilled, may all adverse conditions of all beings be pacified, and may all perfections come as desired. May I also, in terms of the nature of my own lineage,
