Regarding the uncommon view that the width of the summit of Mount Meru is one hundred thousand yojanas, the Seventh Gungtang Rinpoche, in order to dispel illusions, has provided pure and thorough analyses from both internal and external perspectives, along with the validity of scriptural and logical reasoning, and has generously bestowed the gift of eloquent explanations. However, for those shallow minds who, like frogs in a well, have not yet crossed the ocean of eloquent explanations, there remains the possibility of such doubts arising. In the scriptures, it is said that the height of the summit is fifty thousand yojanas, which refers to the point where the peak of Mount Meru meets the Cool Wind Mountain. Moreover, when traveling north to the ultimate point, the sun's rays touch two lands separated by thirteen thousand five hundred yojanas, and these two must be the same point, meaning the center of the sun cannot exceed half of the earth. Measuring inward from there by thirteen thousand five hundred yojanas, the outer edge of Mount Meru, with a width of fifty thousand yojanas, is located there, which is consistent with the diagram of the globe. Furthermore, from then on, the increasingly expanding width of the summit of Mount Meru, that is, the bird's-eye view of one hundred thousand yojanas, encompasses the entire earth, which can be understood through the measurement of the earth's center. The area below the neck of the summit of Mount Meru must also be where the constellations revolve. As stated in the Great Commentary: "There, the assembly of stars revolves. From the position of the assembly of stars to the neck of Mount Meru is twenty-five thousand yojanas." And "In the center, on the summit of Mount Meru is the rotation of the constellations." and so on, all indicate this. For these reasons, including the revolution of the constellations, from the edge of the summit of Mount Meru, equidistant from the outer edge of the earth in the north, to where the flames of the Horsehead Star reach in the south, the water wheel within the range of fifty thousand yojanas must revolve. Therefore, the center of the sun must exceed the constellations by thirteen thousand five hundred yojanas until it reaches half of the earth. This is because the size of the sun's rays and the orbit of the constellations have just been described. I have doubts about this. Moreover, if the path of the constellations is like that, wouldn't it contradict what is said below: "Starting from the Cool Wind Mountain, to the center of the flames, the constellations move in a rightward direction." etc.? Please cut through the net of my indecision with the sword of discernment. 3) Also.

The length of life, the tip of a hair, the number of breaths, Different ways of leading, measured by one's own hundred years. The desire gods gradually measure small kalpas, From one to six, such is the measure. Thus, all lifespans are determined, To be measured by one's own hundred years. The short lifespan of the desire gods is measured in small kalpas, As stated in the scriptures. The desire gods' one day, Is one year and another year in human years, Three thousand six hundred such measures. Thus, the desire gods' one day, Is measured as one year in human years. Three thousand six hundred human years, Are calculated as one year. If this year is multiplied by a hundred, The lifespan ends at thirty-six thousand. If the measure of a small kalpa is established, The width of the water is one yojana, Such an equal pit, Filled with the tips of hairs. Every hundred human years, one hair is taken out, Taking it empty is the measure of a small kalpa. One day is like this for thirty days, That month is again twelve years. Calculating a hundred years like this, Is the measure of a small kalpa. As the meaning of what is said, Every hundred years, one hair is taken out, Taking it empty is the measure of a small kalpa. Previously, the lifespan of thirty-six thousand, It is difficult to take out three hundred and sixty hairs, Such doubt arises, is it possible? The tantra commentary says both, The sutras of subtle breaths, As the gods' breaths are said, It is not a measure of one's own lifespan, The ancient masters say so, Is such reasoning appropriate? Wisdom is like space, please decide. 4) Also, those at each residence, A hundred thousand yojanas and one number, Twenty-five thousand such measures. Thus, a hundred thousand and twenty-five thousand yojanas, The straight-line distance of the sun's circular path, Is the meaning of what appears. How does it change at each residence? Such doubt arises. 5) Also, in the second chapter, The first day of the Tiger month in spring, The year begins when the sky dawns at the Rabbit time. Thus, it is said that the month begins with the Tiger, Therefore, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Bird, Dog, Pig, Rat, Ox, Are established in such order, The nature of male and female years, Those wood, fire, earth, metal, water, Appear and are held in pairs, Such is known as the sixty old years. Thus, the direct meaning of what is said, The month of creation becomes the year, Such is the meaning. The indirect meaning is the beginning of the year, It must also be calculated from the Tiger year, Such is slightly difficult to explain, Such doubt arises. 6) In the third chapter, in Varanasi (Vārāṇasī, Sanskrit, वाराणसी, Varanasi, meaning: Benares), the meaning of the Four Noble Truths is proclaimed.
