To say that the lama's dharma is just one aspect of praising oneself is not necessarily required. In any case, the object is not just an ordinary person, but a Bodhisattva. The perception is: to recognize that the other person is a Bodhisattva. It is merely perceiving them as worthy of respect due to their difficulties. The thought is: because of belittling the other, hoping that the people who respect him and his wealth will come to oneself. The action is: out of jealousy for the other's gains and respect, speaking of the other's faults, whether true or false, and proclaiming one's own qualities that one does not possess. The result is: the words of praise or disparagement are heard by others. Je Chokyi Zangpo believes that abandoning the mind of enlightenment is also the first of the root downfalls. This seems to be in accordance with what is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: "How can one who is angry at the wealth of others have the mind of enlightenment?" The sixth downfall is: In short, in the future, novice Bodhisattvas, whether householders or renunciates, will hold, recite, read, and widely proclaim the profound sutras, which are the practice of those who diligently practice the Bodhisattva path, great scholars, great beings who are well-versed in the grounds of dharani, patience, and samadhi, that is, the sutras that possess emptiness, and say: I have realized these teachings through my own wisdom, and I teach you in the same way out of compassion. You should also practice in this way so that these profound teachings of the Buddha may be manifested. If you do so, you will see wisdom like me. Saying like this: I am only teaching by reciting such profound sutras, not by personally realizing them. This is selling oneself for the sake of gain and respect, and therefore, in the presence of all the Buddhas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and all noble beings of the past, present, and future, it is sinful and will become a great downfall. Thus it is said.

Here, the basis is the wisdom that directly realizes emptiness from the path of seeing of the Great Vehicle up to the abandonment of what is to be abandoned by cultivation. The perception is knowing that one does not possess it oneself. The thought is hoping that gain and respect will come if one says, "I have directly realized this Dharma" because of attachment to gain and respect. The action is either explaining to another scripture containing emptiness, saying "I have done it," even though one has not directly realized the meaning of this, or, even if one does not actually explain the scripture, one speaks many words showing emptiness, emptiness, emptiness. The conclusion is that whether or not others realize the meaning explained by the object, the Bodhisattva acknowledges that he has directly realized emptiness, and understands it as such. This also belongs to the category of the first downfall of the ground. However, it is different from the fifth downfall that appears in the Sutra of Akashagarbha. The fifth downfall is falling due to praising oneself and reviling other Bodhisattvas who are rivals. Although this downfall does not involve reviling others, it is falling due to falsely praising oneself, which is the difference between the two. The seventh downfall is: In the sutra, it says: "Son of good family, furthermore, in the future, before the royal families, there will appear Chandalas and ministers, Chandalas and fallen ones, Chandalas who are foolish, arrogant with wisdom, those with great wealth, those with great enjoyment. They will appear on many of the five kinds of objects of merit arising from generosity. Those who are fattened and arrogant by giving, with arrogance, pride, and haughtiness, create divisions that separate royal families and ascetics, ascetics and royal families. Relying on the royal families, they cause the ascetics to be cut off by punishment. They cause wealth to be plundered by punishment. By oppression, they cause those ascetics to steal the property of individuals, the Sangha, the Sangha of the four directions, or the stupa, and offer it to them. Those Chandalas will also offer it to those royal families. Both of them will become fundamental downfalls. This is the seventh fundamental downfall." Thus it is said. Here, the basis is a royal family or someone who is not, but who is powerful, a householder or a renunciate.
