Recited "Sol" (Tibetan) twice. The third time, when reciting "Refuge and self-vow are complete, becoming a layperson," I made a clapping (Tibetan: སེ་གོལ་) gesture, and at the same time, the precepts arose. At that time, I thought I had obtained the precepts. After that, you also need to call me "Khenpo," so please keep that in mind and follow along. Afterwards, the Khenpo replied, "It is a means (Tibetan: ཐབས་ཡིན་ནོ།)." The disciple replied, "Okay (Tibetan: ལེགས་སོ།)." Therefore, you have obtained the precepts of a layperson. So, thinking that just as the noble Arhats guarded those five precepts, I will also guard them, then follow along. Khenpo, please listen. Just as those noble Arhats, until the end of their lives, abstained from killing and returned from killing, I, named so-and-so, from this time until the end of my life, will abstain from killing and return from killing. Through this first limb, I will learn, follow, and practice the precepts of those noble Arhats. Furthermore, just as those noble Arhats, until the end of their lives, abstained from taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, and grain alcohol and concocted alcohol, places of carelessness due to intoxication, and returned from grain alcohol and concocted alcohol, places of carelessness due to intoxication, I, named so-and-so, from this time until the end of my life, will abstain from taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, and grain alcohol and concocted alcohol, places of carelessness due to intoxication, and return from grain alcohol and concocted alcohol, places of carelessness due to intoxication. Through this fifth limb, I will learn, follow, and practice the precepts of those noble Arhats. After reciting this once, as before, the means are excellent. Then, after facing the Khenpo and asking about obstacles, and determining that the continuum of the one to be tamed is pure, after taming oneself as a layperson, then requesting a monk with ten qualities, a virtuous monk.

A certain great spiritual friend instructed, "Please request the Sangha to ordain this fortunate one." That bhikkhu asked, "Are the obstructive dharmas of this fortunate one completely purified?" The one approaching the abbot replied, "They are completely purified." Then, the appointed one leads the one to be ordained and requests the Sangha residing in their respective dwellings, which is also acceptable. However, nowadays, it is customary to request when the entire Sangha is gathered in one dwelling. Therefore, the one to be ordained, except for the abbot, is made to prostrate three times to the senior bhikkhus, and the one wearing white clothes is made to sit squatting with palms joined. Standing beside the senior ones, he makes obeisance. Then he says, "Venerable Sangha, please listen. This person named so-and-so wishes to be ordained by the abbot named so-and-so, wishing to be ordained from the householder wearing white clothes, without shaved hair and beard, into the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya. This person named so-and-so wishes to be ordained, having shaved his hair and beard, wearing the monastic robes, with genuine faith, from home to homelessness, from the abbot named so-and-so. If his obstructive dharmas are completely purified, should he be ordained?" In response, the Sangha members say, "If they are completely purified." Here, it is based on one person to be ordained. If there are two people, then the previous "this" is changed to "these," "that" is changed to "those," "whether that" is changed to "whether those," "himself" is changed to "themselves." If there are three people, then "purified" is changed to "all." The phrase "named so-and-so," if it is one's own abbot, then for the sake of meaning, the name is mentioned, saying "the abbot named so-and-so," if it is the preceptor, then say "preceptor," if it is not one's own abbot and preceptor, then indicate the place, or use an affectionate term such as "spiritual friend," etc. For case endings and conjunctions, one should skillfully apply all the changes above and below according to the situation. Then, the one approaching the abbot makes the one to be ordained prostrate three times to himself, and makes him sit squatting in front with palms joined, saying, "You should be ordained."
