The method of rectifying after transgressions. Among the four explanations of the benefits of vows, the first is: In front of the image of the Tathagata, arrange whatever offerings are available. In front of the teacher seated on the throne, prostrate three times each to the deity being practiced and the lama, and then sit in a squatting or kneeling posture with palms joined. Ah! A rare and precious human body with leisure and endowments has been obtained. The Buddha's teachings, which are difficult to encounter, have been encountered. Those who wish themselves well should strive to make the Buddha's teachings their core. For this, one must first study the discipline of morality, which is the basis of all virtues. If based on individual liberation, then among the seven or eight types of vows mentioned, from refuge to complete vows, as previously stated. Here, the complete upasaka is practiced as the actual content, and for the benefit of all sentient beings, Buddhahood is to be attained. Therefore, in order to take and keep the vows of a complete upasaka, please repeat after me. After giving the instruction, Venerable or Teacher, please listen, from "two-legged" to "I take refuge in the Sangha," and "From this moment until the end of my life, please accept me as an upasaka by the Venerable or Teacher," answer three times in this way and be skillful. Thus, you have received the upasaka vows and need to keep them. The method of keeping them is also to abandon these five things to be abandoned from the mind. Return again from body and speech. That is, follow the previous arhats to keep them. Please repeat after me, after giving the instruction, Teacher, please listen. Just as the previous noble arhats abandoned killing until the end of their lives, and returned from killing, so too, I, by the name of so-and-so, from this moment until the end of my life, abandon killing and return from killing. With this first branch, I will follow, practice, and emulate the precepts of those noble arhats. Furthermore, just as the previous noble arhats until the end of their lives

Between not giving and taking, and with desire, engaging in sexual misconduct, and speaking falsehoods, and grain alcohol, and abandoning the place of carelessness where the modified alcohol becomes intoxicating, grain alcohol, and returning again from the place of carelessness where the modified alcohol becomes intoxicating, similarly, I, named so-and-so, from this time onwards until the end of my life, will not take what is not given, and will return again from the place of carelessness. With this fifth branch, I, in the training of those noble Arhats, and so on, recite once in between following. Thus, you have obtained well through the actual ritual of taking the complete lay vows, and the two ways of reciting the precepts. Therefore, rely on it to accomplish the vast benefit of yourself and others. After saying this, dedicate the merit. Secondly, the way to protect without interruption depends on knowing the precepts. If you want to explain it, then first of all, no matter what vows you take, you need to take refuge as the beginning, so you must learn these precepts of refuge. After reciting the precepts mentioned in the ritual of taking refuge vows, the precepts of a layperson have five branches of actual abandonment, as well as precepts of conformity, and three kinds of innocence through skillful means. First, of the five branches, killing is, the basis is a person or a person who has taken shape, and there is awareness of this. The motivation is hatred. The intention is the intention to kill. The action is making weapons, etc. Ultimately, whether the action has just been completed or the life of another person, if the life of the other person is cut off before the killer himself dies, then the limb is complete. Not giving is, the basis is something owned by another person, the value of which reaches or exceeds half a tael of gold, and there is awareness of this. The motivation is greed. The intention is the intention to steal. The action is stealing or deceiving and lurking to move from the place. Ultimately, the limb is complete when the thought of obtaining arises. Sexual misconduct is, the basis is not one's own wife, a woman who has not passed through seven generations, and who is protected by vows and parents, etc., and who has not repaid the remuneration of others, and places such as sick children, etc., and times such as the daytime when it is not time, and places such as parents and the Three Jewels, and parts that are not limbs, such as the mouth.
