Just as the days become longer, after the winter solstice the nights become shorter, and the days, in contrast, become longer. That is its meaning. The seasonal changes in spring and autumn are explained in accordance with the calendar of most scholars today, in conjunction with these scriptures. However, since the time from the astronomical winter solstice to the west is too long, it seems somewhat inappropriate in reality. Therefore, as Khyunglungpa said, if the primary, intermediate, and final quarters are each advanced, and the ninth month, with its final star, is designated as the autumn minor month, and the winter solstice is set from the latter half of that, and the year begins, then the eighth day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar is the winter solstice, and the eighth day of the seventh month is the summer solstice. As the "Sun Essence Sutra" says: "The full moon day is the final star. At the beginning of the middle month of autumn, I will tell the calendar. Twelve months have been spoken." And as that sutra says: "The Jyestha month is the perfect month, and the winter minor month is also natural, and will eventually be told. Having gone to the south, the sun completely revolves. Know that the night is eighteen parts, and the day is twelve parts." Although the old and new calendars do not agree on the names of the months' quarters, there is no confusion about the essence of the months, so it is acceptable. In this way, the translation of the winter end and summer end in the commentary, from the perspective of phonetic translation, does not conform to the regulations mentioned earlier, so it is not good, but it seems appropriate in terms of meaning translation. Also, "When the full moon day is the staff day, that is the autumn minor month." Some people think that this quotation is not authoritative. Most of the former Tibetans say that there is such an arrangement in the Indian scriptures. If this is true, then this quotation can be supported. However, these can only be known if the Sanskrit original is found, and it is not certain whether the translator translated it according to his own wishes. When explaining the quotation from the "Sun Essence Sutra," some scholars say: Auspicious and virtuous, these were said in the past, countless years ago, when the movement of the sun, moon, and stars had just begun, without any delay occurring, and the current situation is not like that.

This is unacceptable, because it is impossible to have the winter solstice in the last month of winter (the eleventh month of the Tibetan calendar), the Mouth Month (དགུན་ཟླ་ཐ་ཆུང་མཆུའི་ཟླ་བ), and it is impossible to have the summer solstice in the last month of summer (the fifth month of the Tibetan calendar), the Krittika Month (གྲོ་བཞིན་གྱི་ཟླ་བ). Saying such things is a distortion of what one cannot explain as it is. Even if a delay was allowed at that time, it is impossible for the righteous sage (དྲང་སྲོང་རྔ་བོང་) not to know that a delay would occur later, so this should be determined. Furthermore, it should be abandoned at the end of the intercalary month. If one thinks that its fault is so great that there is always a doubt that the difference in months will occur at some time, then this can even be determined as a rough statement of only three days difference. If it is true that accumulating such faults, then how can one refute what Buton Rinpoche said that the winter solstice came earlier? There is no need to blame him. Therefore, the root of these errors is the mistake of considering the winter solstice of the Treasury and the Sun Essence, etc., to be the same time as the winter solstice of this place. Also, this way that we all start the year of the Vinaya from the new moon, Panchen Shakya Chokden said in the commentary on the Hundred Karmas: "Many Vinaya holders in the middle agree that according to the rules of the Vinaya, the waxing half of the Krittika Month (སྨིན་དྲུག་ཟླ་བ), that is, the fifteenth day of the last month of mid-autumn (སྟོན་ཟླ་ཐ་ཆུང་), is the end of the old year, so from the sixteenth day of that day, it is the new year, and from that time, it is counted as the beginning of the year. Because it is said in the Sutra, Essence of the Sun: 'I speak of the Krittika star That's what he said. This is unreasonable, even if that which is to be proven is established in meaning, but to prove it, you have not quoted any Vinaya scriptures or treatises. Moreover, the meaning of that Sutra verse is not to start the year from the day after the full moon of Krittika, but that Sutra itself says it clearly, and you seem to be just following the words of others, and it seems that you have not seen that Sutra as it is. Even if the meaning of that Sutra is as you say, there is no Vinaya rule or commentary that can serve as it or its proof. Therefore, it should be refuted with an important attitude. On this, first seeing that you quoted the verse of the Sun Essence, you say that starting the year from the latter half of the Krittika star is said following the Sun Essence.
