He was born into the Tshur clan. His name was known as Tshur Wangi Dorje. Later, Marpa was invited to Dolmdar, and Marpa transmitted the three traditions of explanation of the Yeshe Zhap lineage: Zayan (ཛ་ཡན་, Devanagari: , Romanization: , Literal meaning: ), Thagana (ཐ་ག་ན་, Devanagari: , Romanization: , Literal meaning: ), and the Flower of Snimbu (སྙིམ་པ). He condensed these into the essential instructions of the tantras and extensively carried out the activities of the Dharma with appearances. Messton Sonam Gyaltsen. Furthermore, Messton Sonam Gyaltsen was an emanation of Shantideva. As it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: "May I be born in that place, a grove of wish-fulfilling trees, filled with Buddhas and their sons, proclaiming the sweet Dharma." He established a base in the Kyedmotshal (སྐྱེད་མོས་ཚལ། Garden of Joy) in Sikkim (འབྲས་ཡུལ།) and accomplished the power of his aspiration to spread the teachings. He mainly studied the practice of the Kagyu lineage with Marpa and became a learned and accomplished scholar. Marpa explained the qualities of the site of Dzongkar Kyedmotshal (རྫོང་དཀར་སྐྱེད་མོས་ཚལ།) and prophesied that he should seek that place and uphold the teachings of explanation and practice. However, due to some inauspicious circumstances, he identified the land near Rinbung (རིན་སྤུངས་) as that place and established his residence there. He mainly focused on the explanation of the Two Examinations (བརྟག་གཉིས་) and carried out the activities of explanation and practice. One night, Marpa appeared and said, "The place prophesied earlier is not this one; you will receive the aspiration to accomplish it in the next life." Later, he was reborn as Nardo Per and was ordained in Rong Chamchen. Awakening his lineage, he remembered his previous deeds and thought that this was the place prophesied in his previous life. He established the monastery of Kharak Bumdrub (ཁ་རག་བུམ་སྒྲུབ་) and conducted teachings and practice there. One night, Marpa appeared and encouraged him with the prophecy, "From here, go up to Rongchung (རོང་ཆུང་)." So he went through Rongchung, and as he regularly recited names and prayers, when he arrived at the site of Kyedtshal, he felt a little tired at the phrase "The banner of Dharma is well established." Upon investigation, he found that it fully met the characteristics of the place prophesied by his lama, and he was certain that this was the place he was looking for. So he established the teaching institute of Sikkim Dzongkar Kyedmotshal. The Desi Rinbungpa (སྡེ་སྲིད་རིན་སྤུངས་པ) revered him as his head lama and granted him a vast estate of land covering the four seasons. He carried out the activities of the Dharma, pleasing the omniscient Sangye Phel (ཀུན་མཁྱེན་སངས་རྒྱས་འཕེལ).
