In order to eliminate the obscuration of afflictions, form is like a bubble, feeling is like a water bubble, perception is like a mirage, formations are like a plantain tree, and consciousness is like an illusion. This was taught by the Kinsman of the Sun (Shakyamuni Buddha). Furthermore, the subject of debate, should realize the selflessness of phenomena, because by realizing the freedom from elaboration of the aggregates, one transcends the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death, and thus is liberated from samsara. The reason is established, as it is said in the Root Wisdom: 'The Blessed One, regarding existence and non-existence, the knower Katyayana, in his instruction, refuted both existence and non-existence.' Furthermore, the object of knowledge, the Shravaka Arhat should realize the selflessness of phenomena, because from form to the Dharma of the Buddha, they practice in the manner of direct perception, without the fortune to attain the Bodhi of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas. The reason is established, as it is said in the Intermediate Mother: 'What is called form, and so on, abiding in the Dharmas of the Buddha, and especially desiring and fully knowing the Dharmas of the Buddha, is the practice of directly perceiving the Dharmas of the Buddha. The practice of direct perception gives rise to birth, aging, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, and displeasure, and without being completely liberated from them, it is said to be not completely liberated from great suffering.' The venerable Shariputra, the great Bodhisattva, does not have the fortune to directly realize the Shravaka ground or the Pratyekabuddha ground, let alone directly realize the unsurpassed perfect and complete Bodhi, that is impossible! This is what is said in the chapter on the aspects of the object of great forbearance. Furthermore, the subject of debate, the continuum of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas possesses the realization of the selflessness of phenomena, because the practitioners of the Shravaka vehicle, in order to liberate themselves from samsara, cultivate the three doors of liberation and the reality of the Four Noble Truths. The reason is established, as it is said in the Intermediate Mother: 'The practitioners of the Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha vehicles, arising from generosity, and so on, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, the Four Noble Truths, the four immeasurables, meditation, the formless absorptions, the eight liberations, the nine successive abidings, the four individual perfect knowledges, and the six superknowledges, are all for taming the self, pacifying the self, and completely…' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Abiding for the sake of Nirvana', because that is the best action. As stated in the sutra. Furthermore, the subject, with the mind possessing all aspects of knowledge, contemplates impermanence of form in a non-apprehending manner. In the literal meaning of the sutra, stating 'the mind possessing all aspects of knowledge' is unnecessary for distinguishing what is to be refuted and what is to be refuted, because Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas do not realize the impermanence of form in a non-apprehending manner. Furthermore, the Shravaka Arhat, the subject, realizes that the aggregates are without inherent existence, because they have abandoned all defilements in their own continuum. If it does not pervade, the knowable, the subject, it is not necessary to realize that the nature of body, speech, and mind is not truly existent as an antidote to the craving that clings to evil deeds of body and speech. It is not necessary to realize that there is no object to be conceived as pride from form to complete enlightenment as an antidote to being proud of a short time as long. It is not necessary to realize that phenomena are not inherently born as an antidote to one's own laziness. It is not necessary to realize that the aggregates are not inherently established as an antidote to defilements. If accepted, then it contradicts from 'merely initiating diligence, being diligent in the meaning as stated, clinging to the body due to the deterioration of the body, etc.' to 'the advice to train in the inherent unborn nature of phenomena'. Furthermore, the subject, in order to purify the non-virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind, it is not necessary to realize that all phenomena are not of the nature of inherent existence, because although Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha Arhats purify the non-virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind, such as killing, they do not realize that all phenomena are not of the nature of inherent existence. If accepted, then it contradicts 'only by realizing that all phenomena are without inherent existence can the body, etc., be purified'. Furthermore, the subject, in order to abandon the obscurations of afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, which cling to form, etc., it is not necessary to realize that form, etc., are not of the nature of inherent existence, because although Shravaka and Pratyekabuddha Arhats do not realize that form, etc., are not of the nature of inherent existence, they have abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing. If accepted, then it contradicts 'only by meditating on the absence of inherent existence can the clinging to form, etc., and Nirvana be pacified'. Furthermore, the Pratyekabuddha like a rhinoceros horn, the subject, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
