Because these two are an indivisible single entity.' This explanation is, 'All appearances appear as they are,' etc., one shloka. The key here is: the sense-perception that grasps form can see the qualities of the entity on the form, but it is not necessary to see the contradictory qualities on the form. If it is said that, from the perspective of the observer, the root sense-perception that grasps form can directly see the knowable and selflessness, etc., on the form, then that is nonsense that does not distinguish between the entity and the contradictory qualities. It is possible to see the qualities of the indivisible single entity, but it is not necessary to see all single entities. If one could see, then the root sense-perception that grasps the color of brown sugar would have the fault of seeing the taste of brown sugar. Keep these two keys in mind. The third part is divided into three points: how they are consistent, analyzing the meaning of the reason, and proving that direct perception is not uncertain. The first point is: 'Root sense-perception that grasps form, as such, the way your own object appears, and the way your own object exists, it is impossible for the two to be confused, because the way you manifest your own object is consistent with the way your own object exists, and the way your own object exists is also consistent with the way you manifest it, because you are the mind that enters your own object directly.' This explanation is, 'How things exist,' etc., one shloka. Therefore, based on direct perception, object, seeing, awareness, and appearance are the same key, because direct perception simply clearly manifests its own object, and the terms awareness and seeing are used to describe it. The second point is, if you want to know how to prove that consciousness and things are consistent, then the fundamental reason is: 'Whatever is a single thing whose essence is indivisible, there cannot be two situations of appearing and not appearing. For example, seeing a lapis lazuli is like seeing blue. The production and impermanence of a pot are also single things whose essence is indivisible.' This is the fundamental reason. Refuting the impossibility of this reason: 'If production and impermanence are the same indivisible nature, then is this a conventional single, or an ultimate single?' It is a conventional single, because in the ultimate, production and impermanence do not exist separately, so it is unreasonable to say 'one'. Refuting the unreasonableness of pervasion: 'If an entity does not have two situations of appearing and not appearing, then an entity also does not have two situations of grasping sound and not grasping sound, then subsequent inference and subsequent inference --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it is thought that there is no difference between the self-awareness of experience and the nominal concept in terms of whether or not they grasp universals. It is not so. From the perspective of external appearance, subsequent inference (anumāna) grasps universals; from the perspective of internal appearance, it appears clearly. This is like a lamp being self-illuminating and dispelling darkness, which are not contradictory, and share similar properties. The auto-commentary says: 'If the made and impermanence are the same entity, then it is impossible to be the same in the ultimate truth (paramārtha-satya); the same in the conventional truth (saṃvṛti-satya) is not certain, just as the middle part of the moon appears while the upper part does not.' Therefore, it is not the same in the conventional truth. Just as there are no two aspects of appearance and non-appearance in one object, the subsequent inference and the self-awareness that experiences it also contradict each other in terms of whether or not they grasp nominal concepts, because they are the same object. This is not contradictory, because the same consciousness functions by looking inward at itself; subsequent inference functions by looking outward and eliminating others, just as a lamp is self-illuminating and dispels darkness, which are not contradictory.' and so on. Third, if the root consciousness (indriya-jñāna) that grasps blue only realizes from the appearance of the made and impermanent on top of the blue, and if it is determined only from the appearance, then the valid reason (hetu) for proving that blue is impermanent becomes meaningless. Root consciousness with blue, you cannot determine all the made and impermanent on top of the blue just from the appearance of blue, because you are the consciousness that clearly appears blue. If so, if it does not determine the made, impermanent, etc. on top of the blue, then it is not a valid cognition (pramāṇa)? It is not so. You do not need to determine it to be its valid cognition, because you are a non-conceptual, non-erroneous awareness. If so, does it have the fault of not being able to accept or reject? It is not so. You have a way to accept or reject blue and the made, impermanent, etc. on top of it, because you bring about the determination of blue through your own power, and the determination of the made, impermanent, etc. on top of blue through the power of others, thereby accepting or rejecting.' Therefore, it is said: 'Therefore, direct perception (pratyakṣa-pramāṇa) Does not need determination because it is non-conceptual.' And so on, six lines. If so, this contradicts the many scriptures before and after, which say that direct perception has no object of determination and does not cut off superimposition (āropa), especially in the commentary on this, some say: 'There are two kinds of determination, although there is no conceptual determination, there is non-conceptual determination, because direct perception can cut off superimposition.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
