Since the word 'not so' clearly appears, the object to be proven cannot be obscured. So, how is the object to be proven related to the qualifier here? It should be proven through expectation and non-negation. 2-291 Among them, 'to be proven' is taken as the basis for explanation. What should be proven? That is the correct other party. Through what is it proven? Through the opponent at that time. How is it done? Through the unique thesis at that time, which the previous opponent himself wants to prove, and which is not negated by valid cognition ( प्रमाण ,pramāṇa,valid cognition), that is, through the way of fulfilling the five characteristics. The necessity of proving in this way is that early debaters believed that the correct thesis must be actually pointed out in the components of the proof statement. If so, it is not proven by the way of understanding from the force of stating the proof at that time. In logic, expectation is related to the qualifier, because the word 'expectation' is the basis for explanation. Where is the expectation? In the correct thesis at that time. Through whom is it expected? Through the pure opponent at that time, in this way. Again, some say: There is absolutely no difference between the word 'expectation' in the Compendium (Kunshe) and in Logic (Rigge), because both equally take the unestablished example and reason as the correct thesis, and neither eliminates the doubt of 'is that the correct thesis?' If so, then there are two different ways of explaining: Most scholars believe that the word 'expectation' in Logic eliminates the case where the first reason is not established, while the word 'expectation' in the Compendium does not eliminate this case, 2-292 because it is related to the object to be proven. Logic eliminates this case because it is not related to the object to be proven. Therefore, the word 'expectation' in the Compendium, if it is not related to the object to be proven, can cut it off, but because it is related to it, it cannot cut it off, just like the meaning of the two verses 'through stating one's own expectation' and so on. This direct explanation seems suitable for the Stages of the Path, but after examination, I think it is somewhat inappropriate, because the word 'expectation' in the Compendium can also cut off the unestablished example and reason that may become the thesis in the future as the correct thesis, because 'even if refuting all other opinions' and 'because the expectation of not so is stated' and so on have already shown this. And, the three of nature, non-negation, and expectation among the five parts eliminate all different kinds of extremes of the other party's correct view, while the two of uniqueness and self eliminate the two kinds of wrong conceptions, wise people explain in this way, which also seems to be in accordance with the intention of the scriptures.

Furthermore, According to scholars like Shakya Chokden, the 'intentional word' (意欲词) of the Compendium (总集, Kuntus), while distinguishing different categories, cannot eliminate erroneous conceptions because it is related to 'what is to be explained' (所诠释). Therefore, 'exclusivity' (唯独) is necessary. However, for 'Gate of Reasoning' (理路之门, Rigs Dor), a single erroneous conception does not have a basis for arising, so it does not need to be eliminated. It is said that there is no problem even if one erroneous conception is not eliminated, but this also needs to be examined. Then, does the 'intentional word' of 'Gate of Reasoning' eliminate the erroneous conception that 'the example and reason are not established, and what is to be proven is also correct?' If it eliminates it, it contradicts the statement that 'a single erroneous conception does not have a basis for arising, so it does not need to be eliminated.' If it does not eliminate it, then in the case of 'for the words that have become intentional, it is a limb,' it contradicts the supplementary explanation that it is a limb capable of cutting off such doubts. So, what do you think should be said? According to the literal meaning of the previous treatise, it seems impossible to escape the difficult situation in order to maintain one's own tenets. Therefore, for the later verse, from the treatise of adornment, 'the condition of intention is a limb, for the words that have become intentional, it is not a limb, it prevents reasons from being unestablished, etc.' By explaining it in this way, and interpreting it with wise words, one can escape the difficult situation. So, how should it be understood? Listen. In the case of the Compendium, in order to eliminate the doubt that 'the example and reason are not established, and what is to be proven is also correct?' 'exclusivity' is absolutely necessary. Because here, this 'intentional word,' due to the key of being related to 'what is to be explained,' This 'intentional word' may become what is to be proven in the future, and the erroneous conception that 'the example and reason are not established, and what is to be proven is also correct?' is the basis or place of arising, so it cannot cut off this doubt by itself. This is the meaning of 'the condition of intention is a limb.' It is not necessary to eliminate the erroneous conception of 'Gate of Reasoning,' because it is not related to 'what is to be explained,' so this erroneous conception is not the basis or place of arising. And, it can prevent different categories such as the example and reason being unestablished. This is the meaning of 'the condition of intention is a limb.' The 'intentional word' of 'Gate of Reasoning' does not need to eliminate such an erroneous conception, because it is not related to 'what is to be explained,' so this erroneous conception is not the basis or place of arising. And, it can prevent different categories such as the example and reason being unestablished. This is the explanation of 'for the words that have become intentional, it is not a limb, it prevents reasons from being unestablished, etc.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
