For example, the basis and opposite of 'valid to be proven'. Here, in order to dispel the confusion about the term of the self-opposite of 'valid to be proven', it is necessary to explain the aspect of 'valid to be proven', so it is said that it is necessary to explain. Because the scripture of 'the meaning of understanding the statement of proof' and so on occurred. The scripture of 'pervasion precedes' and so on, is derived from 'if the place is not indicated' and so on. There is a reason for this: In the previous scripture, the word 'pakṣa' (宗, पक्ष, पक्ष, पक्ष, side) must be actually shown as a part of the statement of proof, because if it is not shown, the opponent will have the fault of not knowing what to prove, When arguing, there is no such fault, even if the word 'pakṣa' is not used as a part of the statement of proof, but by correctly stating the statement of proof with pervasion preceding and so on, it is possible to understand the 'sound is impermanent' and so on that are to be proven at the moment, so there will be statements such as 'with pervasion preceding' and so on. 'If the place is indicated' and so on, is derived from 'the internal part has the ability' and so on. There is a reason for this: In the previous scripture, by correctly stating the valid reason with the three aspects complete to prove 'sound is impermanent' by 'being made', it is actually possible to prove 'sound is impermanent', and remembering the three aspects about it, relying on the correct statement of proof about it, for the correct statement of proof about it, it is promised to have the ability to indirectly prove 'sound is impermanent' about it through it. The opponent says: 'It does not have that ability', because the ability of the correct statement of proof about it to indirectly prove 'sound is impermanent' through it, only exists if 'sound is impermanent to be proven' is explicitly stated in words in the part of the correct statement of proof about it, if it is not stated, there is no such ability, so there will be such an argument. 'The internal part' and so on, is derived from 'even if the argument itself has no ability' and so on. There is a reason for the derivation: In the previous scripture, although the correct statement of proof about it does not have the ability to actually prove something like 'sound is impermanent to be proven', but by showing that it has the ability to indirectly prove it, in order to clearly show its argument, there will be statements such as 'the internal part' and so on. 'The argument' and so on, is derived from 'through the thing to be proven', 'through indirect' and so on. There is a reason for this: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, in the previous case, a statement like 'sound is impermanent' as a pakṣa-vacana (statement of the subject) only states the sādhya (that which is to be proven) of sound being impermanent itself, and does not state the sādhana (means of proof). Therefore, it shows that sound being impermanent has no ability to be established, whether directly or indirectly. Then, if a hetu-vacana (statement of reason) is used, such as 'because it is pervaded by impermanence' and so on, then it also has no ability to establish sound as impermanent, is that reasonable? If it is said that it is because it is a pakṣa-vacana, then these two are not the same. Because that hetu-vacana, although it does not have the ability to directly establish sound as impermanent, it shows in three ways that it has the ability to directly establish it, so there are statements such as 'stating the reason'. 'That which is to be established' and so on, is derived from 'understanding meaning through meaning' and so on. There is a reason for the derivation, because in the previous case, for both the hetu-vacana and the pakṣa-vacana, it was shown that they do not have the ability to directly establish the sādhya of sound being impermanent and so on. Moreover, the reason is that the previous pakṣa-vacana not only does not have the ability to directly establish, but also does not have the ability to establish indirectly, so there are statements such as 'stating that which is to be established'. 'Understanding meaning through meaning' and so on, is derived from 'stating the meaning' and so on. There is a reason for deriving from there, because in the previous case, in the three aspects of the definition of anumāna (inference) for the sake of others, the necessity of stating the second meaning was shown. If someone thinks, then what is the necessity of stating the third clear aspect? There is a necessity for this, if the argument for the sake of others is correct, then the statement of expression must be free from the faults of omission, error, and excess. Therefore, it is necessary to abandon directly stating the pakṣa-vacana as a part of the correct argument, that is its necessity. Therefore, there are statements such as 'understanding meaning through meaning'. Second, explaining the connection between the pramana-sutra (treatise on valid cognition) to be explained and the commentary. In the root text: 'Only the essence is to be indicated, without excluding oneself and what is desired. Perception, inference, and reliable testimony are self-established.' In the self-commentary: 'For the subject qualified by the characteristic of the dharma that one wants to establish, it is not excluded by perception, inference, reliable testimony, and fame, which are other dharmas that contradict the dharma to be established.' Thus, it is shown that what is to be established is irreproachable. These root texts and commentaries briefly state the statement of 'not excluding' through the method of exclusion, and in the Pramāṇavārttika (Commentary on Valid Cognition)... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
