Two: Argument and Answer. First, what is the argument about? Regarding 'depending on it' etc., and 'all scriptures are valid cognitions' etc. When analyzing from the perspective of reality, the argument focuses on the point that scriptures should not be considered as factors that hinder cognition. Second, the way some internal and external scholars argue is as follows: They say, 'For all things in the three states of existence, there is a reason why scriptures obstruct cognition, because people like the Lokayata (顺世论者, a school of Indian materialism) have previously accepted the treatises on sound being permanent as valid cognitions, and therefore, for that reason, they later committed to sound being impermanent, which obstructs the point of their commitment.' This is the presentation of the prior argument. Therefore, it is said: 'Because he accepts the treatise as valid cognition, it obstructs all things.' The answer to this is: You, as the opponent, if you later do not consider the treatise that you previously accepted as valid cognition to be valid, then does it obstruct the wrong view? Why not? Because you accept that treatise as valid cognition, it obstructs the wrong view of that treatise. This is a real reason. To this, someone says: 'There is no fault, because having previously accepted the treatise as valid cognition, and later abandoning it, from the perspective of self-contradiction, it obstructs the wrong view.' Then, there would be no difference between self-contradiction and contradiction with the treatise. Having previously accepted the treatise as valid cognition, and later committing to contradicting it, it is obstructed not only by contradicting the treatise, but also by self-contradiction. Therefore, it is said: 'Because he accepts the treatise as valid cognition, it obstructs all things. If he does not accept it, will it obstruct? If it is self-contradictory, then there will be no difference between self-contradiction and contradiction with the treatise.' Furthermore, this treatise, in itself, is a complete valid cognition that proves the existence of all measurable things, because it is considered a valid cognition of proof merely because it is the will of a person. This is a real reason. Therefore, it is said: 'If it is considered a valid cognition merely because it is the will of a person, then it is a complete valid cognition.' Summarizing the conclusions after the debate: Fourth, summarizing the conclusion is: For knowable things, in the three states of measurable things, is there a difference between scriptures obstructing or proving? Because of the reasons previously stated, for very famous manifest and hidden things, even if the treatise is abandoned, there will be no fault of not understanding. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the utterly hidden. If one does not accept treatises as valid means of proof, then it is said that the very act of analyzing the modes of understanding the utterly hidden is not permissible. Thus, it is said: 'If in matters of common knowledge, treatises are discarded, there is no fault. But for the hidden, treatises are not desired, and analysis itself is not permissible.' Now, if one accepts scripture as a valid means of proof for the utterly hidden, one might wonder if it is sufficient to accept the scriptural meaning without investigation. However, when investigating and analyzing this scripture, most external scriptures are the subject, your accepted statements appear contradictory, and the reason for this is as follows: You state that attachment and other non-dharmas are the root of sin, and that bathing in water purifies the non-dharmic sins. Such a statement is contradictory because it is impossible for bathing in water to eradicate sin from its root, since the view of self is the root of sin, and bathing in water cannot destroy the self from its root. It is said: 'In this, most are statements of contradiction, such as attachment being the root of non-dharma, and bathing purifying non-dharma.' Concluding with the demonstration of refuting other's wrong conceptions. (Concluding with the demonstration of refuting other's wrong conceptions.) The meaning of that text is: Thus it is said, otherwise, the ritual of purification through bathing can cleanse some manifest faults such as defilements, which contradicts what even the inner Buddhist themselves accept. Therefore, the treatises of the inner Buddhists, that is, whatever scriptures there are, are the subject, and the method of analyzing the utterly hidden is permissible, because in the measurable seen and unseen that you speak of, what is not harmed by direct perception and reasoning, and in the unseen, the utterly hidden, the self-contradictory and directly or indirectly contradictory statements are to be taken as proof of what is not harmed. It is said: 'In the seen and unseen, whatever scriptures are harmed by reasoning and self-contradictory statements, are to be taken, therefore analysis is permissible.' This is what happened. Like trusting one or two examples of one's own words, in the three places of measurable objects where one's own words are harmful, whether one's own words are permissible as a valid means of proof or not, this distinction is shown, this is a text that clarifies trust.' Nāgārjuna also said this. May there be auspiciousness! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
