Then, it must be admitted that this is logically consistent, because non-tangible things are one of the two in the homologue for proving that sound is permanent. If this is admitted, then atoms are inevitable, so in the treatise on valid cognition, atoms are also described as examples of permanence. Therefore, it must also be admitted that Dignāga did not compose the Compendium of Valid Cognition. If the Vaiśeṣika opponent thinks that they admit that atoms are permanent and are homologues of non-tangible things, then the Vaiśeṣikas will not admit this, because it contradicts the previous admission. Furthermore, your saying here that the Vaiśeṣikas do not admit this also contradicts the Nyāyabindu itself, because when holding the position of an uncertain example that is dual for both sides, it is said like this. The second case is that, for the opponent Vaiśeṣika, it is like presenting a non-corporeal thing to prove that sound is permanent, because the reason is that, according to the Vaiśeṣika view, permanent things can be either tangible or non-tangible, as stated in the commentary. Furthermore, admitting that there are no pure examples for proving that sound is impermanent or permanent through audible characteristics, and admitting that the treatise is valid, are contradictory, which seems like a minor flaw. But in reality, there is no contradiction, because space is a homologue for proving that sound is permanent through audible characteristics, so it is used as a homologue. A pot is an example of a heterologue, so it is used as a heterologue. If it is thought that neither of these is considered a homologue or a heterologue, then it must be possible to admit that these two are universally present in the homologue and heterologue. If this is the case, then it contradicts admitting that measurable things are universally present in the two aspects of proving that sound is permanent, because there are no pure homologues and heterologues. If they exist, then the two aspects of concomitance and counter-concomitance will be established. Universality itself has also just been admitted. Furthermore, it is unreasonable to say 'For things to be inferred, there are existence, non-existence, and both,' because in the father-son treatises (referring to the treatises on logic, i.e., the works of Dignāga and Dharmakīrti), there is no connection of inferable sound with the homologue, which is a bit rough. Because that treatise connects inferable sound with the dharma that one wants to know, not with the homologue. Because in it, it says, 'For existing things' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Correct, neither non-existence nor both are established. Doubting both, there are four non-establishments. There, the object to be inferred is identified as the subject, and the correct sign is placed on the certainty that the subject itself exists. There are four reasons for non-establishment: the subject does not exist at all, or it does not exist in one aspect, or the debater has doubts about it. It is clearly explained that there are four reasons for non-establishment. The three cases of existence and non-existence in the similar class, and the combination of the two, are immediately above It is also mentioned: 'Like the unestablished combination, it exists in the similar side, does not exist, and is both.' Therefore, great scholar, please illuminate the previous view! Then, have you also abandoned this treatise? Because you have self-contradictorily proposed 'selflessness, created, and impermanent,' etc., which are not in the treatise, and these symbolize impermanence and effort. If you think so, you are right. But these two cases cannot be accepted completely literally. The first and last of the logical clockwise inferences must be universal and binary in those two cases. Rather than measurability being universally present in the similar class that proves sound is permanent, and non-touchability is also not a binary in the similar class that proves sound is permanent, because If it is permanent, it cannot be pervaded by measurement; if it is permanent, it must be non-touchable. In addition, many works of Dignāga (Phyogs-glang) such as the Sutra Self-Commentary state that atoms are permanent, but this is also unacceptable. In order to avoid this error, some say: 'If it is permanent, it cannot be pervaded by measurement, because if it is permanent, it must exist.' Dharmakīrti (Chos grags) said: 'That whose nature is indestructible, the wise call it permanent.' Therefore, abandon this shameful view and say that it is permanent.' Because he describes the inexpressible self as permanent, he considers it as a subject and performs three rounds of reasoning. Some say that whatever is permanent is not a similar class to be proven. It would be terrible to examine what the similar class refers to. This will be explained in detail elsewhere. Most people think that, in general, touchability is not a binary in the similar class that proves sound is permanent. But they consider that this is the case in the view of the Vaiśeṣika (Byed brag pa), because the Vaiśeṣika admits that the atoms of the four elements are non-touchable and are the basis of permanence. This statement is not well thought out. Then, the non-touchability of the Vaiśeṣika becomes a refutation of the cause of the subject proving that sound is permanent. Because in their view, it is binary in the two cases to be proven. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
