Then, this child, 1-826 If one suspects that the function of a vase is due to dust, or thinks it is something other than the vase, then generally, the 'own-being' here seems to be regarded as 'self-reflexive'. As it says in the self-commentary, 'Dependent and remaining, are also the same as that,' its object is: all dharmas except those that arise together with the own-being. A moment of mind is also the object of another moment of mind, so one moment becomes the object of two moments, and all dharmas are like that. Therefore, the realm of dharmas is always dependent. When one abides equally in the thought that all dharmas are without self, the first moment of mind does not take as its object the first moment itself, the mental factors of its own retinue that arise together with it, and the four characteristics of their nature, such as arising. But the second moment of mind will take them as objects. Therefore, the own-being is considered to be the self-reflexive of the first moment of mind. However, if we analyze carefully, the clarity and awareness aspect of the first moment of mind, and the aspect of it being consciousness, etc., dharmas that are the same in essence but different in counter-essence from it, even if they are not its object, must they be considered its function? This question will be discussed below. 1-827 Furthermore, it is argued that it is absurd that the path of seeing (Darshanamarga) is not obstructed from arising from the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing (Darshanaheyaklesha), it is absurd that the appearance of daylight does not obstruct the knowledge of stars during the day, and it is absurd that strong heat touch does not obstruct the arising of cold touch, because they are their functions, because they are different substances or counter-essences from them. If one accepts this pervasiveness, then if one understands the key point, one can respond to these views. Considering that when the causes, conditions, and abilities for a certain dharma to arise on its own are gathered, other things cannot obstruct its arising, therefore it is said that it does not obstruct arising. Therefore, the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing, etc., do not obstruct the arising of the path of seeing, etc., when the causes and conditions for their arising are gathered. As the treatise on reasoning says: 'What result can obstruct a cause that is without deficiency?' And as the Commentary 'King of Sons' says: 'Abiding in the nature of not obstructing arising is called the arising of a dharma that ultimately appears when the conditions are gathered, and all dharmas abide in the nature of not obstructing its arising.'

1-828 It should be understood as 'not everything' etc., and it should be added that even seeing a star, it only does not arise when there is no collection of causes and conditions. Therefore, it has been well explained that all phenomena other than self-nature are the cause of fabrication. Then, is it sufficient for the cause to merely not hinder the arising? It is not sufficient, because there are two kinds of causes: one is an incapable cause that merely does not hinder the arising of the result; the other is a capable cause that has the ability to produce the result. In the auto-commentary, it is explained: 'This is a general statement, but as for the main cause of the cause, it also has the ability to produce. For example, for eye consciousness, it is the eye and form; for the body, it is food; for sprouts, etc., it is seeds, etc.' Therefore, although the four, such as arising, etc., on the example of conditioned phenomena are merely the cause of fabrication of conditioned phenomena, they are not one of the six causes of conditioned phenomena, because they are the co-emergent cause of the six causes of conditioned phenomena. 1-829 This is also reasonable, as it says in the *King of Excellent Sons Sutra*: 'All conditioned phenomena are the cause of fabrication, because fabrication itself is the cause, so it is the cause of fabrication. Any cause that is not expressed with a specific name, but is expressed by grasping the general nature of the cause, is the cause of fabrication. For other causes that are described with specific names, no distinction is made, but as a cause, it itself is their specificity, such as when describing the sphere of form.' Second, the co-emergent cause, including definition and examples. The first is the definition: any cause that is mutually the result with that phenomenon, and mainly exists in the same category, is the subject, you are the definition of the co-emergent cause of that phenomenon, because you are able to establish it as such. Here it is necessary to mention 'mainly' or 'same category', because the example, the vase itself, is the co-emergent cause of its own subsequent continuity, but it is not its co-emergent result. It is explained that the four definitions of its subsequent continuity are not co-emergent causes. As the text says: 'Co-emergent mutually are results.' In the auto-commentary, it says: 1-830 Even without being mutually results, the phenomena are similar. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
