Like the previous cushions, on each small cushion, the lineage lamas are in the form of Amitabha (འོད་དཔག་མེད།); on the front petal are the yidam deities, primarily Noble Tara (རྗེ་བཙུན་མ།); on the right petal are those with the Sambhogakaya attire, such as Vairochana (རྣམ་སྣང་); those with the Nirmanakaya form, such as Shakyamuni Buddha (སྟོན་པ་ཐུབ་པའི་དབང་པོ།), the Teacher, the Lord of Sages, are the Buddha Jewel; on the back petal, the essence is the qualities of realization, encompassed by cessation and path, residing in the mindstreams of all objects of refuge, but the appearance is like scriptures stacked like a rocky mountain, or gold letters on a red background, with patterned silk covers, which is the Dharma Jewel; on the left petal are the Sangha of noble ones, with the forms of householders and renunciates; in all the surrounding petals, there are also dakinis, protectors, wealth deities, accomplished vidyadharas, etc., all those worthy of refuge, contemplate them as densely packed as clouds, which is the Sangha Jewel. Second: In front of them (the objects of refuge) is oneself; on the right is one's father in this life; on the left is one's mother; in front are enemies and obstructing forces; all around are all sentient beings of the six realms and the bardo, contemplate them as crowded together like a festival gathering. Third: Faith, fear, and compassion. The first of these has three aspects: to be amazed and delighted by the qualities of body, speech, and mind of the objects of refuge is the faith of delight; to wish that oneself, others, and all sentient beings may attain such a state is the faith of aspiration; to recognize that the objects of refuge are the nature of great compassion, wisdom, and ability, without doubt or hesitation, is the faith of conviction. Fear has three aspects: to be afraid of the suffering of samsara and the lower realms; to be afraid of selfish thoughts; to take refuge out of fear of attachment to ordinary appearances. Compassion is said to be the cause of taking refuge, meaning that if one thinks well about how all sentient beings are tormented by the unbearable suffering of samsara and the lower realms, unbearable compassion will arise, and based on that, the mind of wanting to protect from suffering will arise. Moreover, one does not have such ability now, and neither do the great shravakas, pratyekabuddhas, and worldly figures...

Because there is not, for the benefit of sentient beings, wanting to attain Buddhahood, and knowing that the root of the path to attain Buddhahood is refuge itself, thereby generating the mind of wanting to take refuge, this is solely within the scope of the Mahayana. Fourth, uniting the three doors of oneself and all other sentient beings into one, from this time onwards, until the two, abandonment and realization, become one, and until there is no separation between the object of refuge and the refuge-taker, whatever you do, thinking "You know," with such a mind, completely entrusting, guiding oneself, thinking that all sentient beings are making the sound of refuge, with the mind closely following the words, reciting the four lines of refuge hundreds, thousands, and even countless times. When reciting "Glorious Lama," visualize the root and lineage Lamas, and pray for them to be our guides; when reciting "Perfect Buddha," visualize the Yidam in front and the Buddhas on the right, and pray for them to be our teachers; when reciting "Holy Dharma," visualize the scriptures behind, and pray for them to be our true path; when reciting "Noble Sangha," visualize the Sangha on the left and the Dharma protectors around, and pray for them to be our companions in practice. In short, all virtuous deeds, represented by refuge, must be made essential in a state of non-distraction. If it is not so, it is like "deeds done but not accumulated," like labor without fruit, which should be kept in mind. Finally, visualize that five-colored rays of light emanate from the hearts of all the objects of refuge, shining on sentient beings, purifying all sentient beings' sins, obscurations, and habitual tendencies, so that sentient beings attain the stainless rainbow body, and the mind realizes the non-conceptual Dharmakaya, like a flock of birds flying to their respective pure lands. Again, with a sincere and respectful heart, join the palms, and pray to the Lama and the Three Jewels, etc., the surrounding Dharma protectors joyfully dissolve into light and merge into the Sangha, the Sangha merges into the Dharma, the Dharma merges into the Buddha, the Buddha merges into the Yidam, the Yidam merges into the lineage Lama, and the lineage Lama merges into the principal deity. The principal deity also gradually dissolves into light from the crown of the head, starting from the root of the wish-fulfilling tree.
