Supreme Guru and Blissful Protector, I respectfully bow to the One who is indivisible. For the sake of the profound longevity instructions, I write as the Holy One has spoken. Thus, the method by which a teacher who possesses the qualities as described, through the profound gateway of longevity instructions, accepts no more than seven fortunate disciples is as follows: First, on the morning of the eighth day of the waxing moon of any month, when auspicious planetary and stellar conjunctions are complete, an uncommon subsequent permission is granted, adorned with oral instructions from the text composed by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo. In the evening, the teacher ascends the seat and recites the mantra to subdue the maras twenty-one times. Then, the disciples are seated in order, and urged by the teacher or another, they recite one verse beginning with "Glorious Root Guru," and "The feet of the powerful Lord, the venerable Tara," from the bottom of the row. They prostrate three times with folded hands. Standing, they say, "In order to request the profound Dharma instructions from the embodiment of all Buddhas of the three times, the glorious and holy Guru, I offer the mandala." Then, they offer the thirty-seven-heap mandala beginning with "Om Vajra Bhumi." If desired, the previous offerings and so forth, and from now until enlightenment, may also be done. Then, the teacher, with pure compassion and bodhicitta as the preliminary, in a loud voice, should say, "For the sake of all sentient beings as infinite as the sky, may I attain the precious state of perfect Buddhahood. For that purpose, listen to the profound stages of instruction, generating the supreme mind of enlightenment." And also, the conduct of listening to the Dharma: From the Lineage of the Born Ones: "Sit on a very low seat, place the splendor of gentleness nearby, look with joyful eyes, as if drinking the nectar of words. Generate respect and single-pointedness, with a very clear and stainless mind. As a sick person listens to the doctor's words, listen to the Dharma with reverence." And, from the Vajra Arising from the Mandala Ritual: "Having well gathered all thoughts, listen with a very good mind. If Vajrasattva and others arise in the mind due to forgetfulness, the Sugatas will not bless you." Thus it is said.

As mentioned before, not trusting in the words and meanings of the Dharma is like the fault of an overturned vessel. Even if you trust, not grasping it with mindfulness and awareness is like the fault of a vessel with a hole in the bottom. Even if you grasp it with mindfulness and awareness, but as it says in the 'Analysis of Reasoning': 'Pride and disbelief, not seeking its meaning, external distraction, uncollected mind, and sorrow are the defilements of listening.' Having any of these six defilements is the fault of a defiled vessel, so you must abandon the three faults of a vessel. In particular, because of having ordinary appearance and attachment, you cannot listen to the profound secret mantra teachings. Therefore, this place has also become like the pure land of Sukhavati. In its center, on top of a precious throne, lotus, and moon cushion, the teacher who is teaching the Dharma now is not this ordinary appearance, but the supreme deity, the noble Tara Wish-Fulfilling Wheel, adorned with body, marks, and signs. The sound of the Dharma is inseparable from clarity and emptiness, clearly proclaiming. May your minds all be the great ocean of ultimate emptiness, with waves of compassion surging. Think that it is real. You should also listen with the pride of whatever deity you practice in the session, in an undistracted manner. The Dharma to be listened to is, starting from 'We all sentient beings,' and saying 'is the ultimate Bodhicitta.' If you want to rise from the seat, think that, represented by this root of virtue, all the virtues accumulated in the three times are shared with all sentient beings, may we attain the state of perfect enlightenment. Seal it with dedications such as 'By this virtue, may all beings,' and pure aspirations, and in all activities, spend time with actions that are in accordance with the Dharma. To remember it again, I will repeat it once more. Tonight, in your own residences, sit on a comfortable cushion with the Dharma of meditation. Rest until the breath is naturally calm. Then, with the lineage prayer as a preliminary, enter the order of practice. There are preliminaries and main practices, etc., repeat as before until 'spend time.' Remember again.
