Whose lineage has never been interrupted, and all of whom were great accomplished masters who had perfected the qualities of experience and realization. Second, the actual instructions are threefold: preliminaries, main practice, and concluding practice. First, the preliminaries are threefold: common preliminaries, uncommon preliminaries, and special preliminaries. First, the common preliminaries are four: the difficulty of finding leisure and opportunity, impermanence and death, the law of karma, and the faults of samsara, which are the four thoughts that turn the mind, and the method of training the mind is the same as others. Second, the uncommon preliminaries are threefold: the meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva, the mandala offering, and guru yoga, which are known as the three preliminaries. The first of these is threefold: taking refuge, generating bodhicitta, and the actual meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva. The first is: All places become vast and pure buddhafields, and in front of oneself, in the middle of an ocean of nectar endowed with eight qualities, filled with various precious jewels, is a wish-fulfilling tree with firm roots, a thick trunk, five branches, leaves, flowers, and fruits that are fully blooming and pleasing to the mind. In the center, on a precious throne and various lotus and moon cushions, is the root guru, the great Vajradhara, surrounded by the gurus of the lineage. On the branch in front are the yidams, on the right are the buddhas, behind are the dharmas, on the left are the sanghas, and in all the spaces in between, dakinis, dharma protectors, and guardians are abiding like dense clouds. In their presence, oneself and all other sentient beings combine their three doors into one, and with sincere faith and respect, recite the words of refuge as appropriate. The second is: For the sake of all sentient beings, I shall attain the state of perfect enlightenment, generating the bodhicitta of aspiration, and for that purpose, I shall train on the path, generating the bodhicitta of application, clearly establishing this and reciting it verbally. Finally, all the objects of refuge revolve to the right and dissolve into the guru in the center, and that guru dissolves into oneself, thinking that one's mindstream has been blessed. The third is: As it appears in the recitation text, through generating the three visualizations, clearly visualize the samayasattva of Vajrasattva, invite the wisdom being to merge, feel regret for the sins committed in the past, and the intention to restrain oneself in the future. As an antidote to this, with the visualization of nectar descending and purifying, recite the hundred-syllable mantra as much as possible.

Recite. Finally, strongly confess again and absorb it into oneself. Second, the mandala is practiced during the Guru Yoga section below. Third, there are five: visualizing the Guru Yoga, performing the seven branches, offering the mandala of offerings, supplicating, and receiving empowerment. As it appears in the recitation, practice until the realization of each arises. Also, along with refuge recitation of one hundred thousand times, prostrations are done similarly. During Vajrasattva meditation and recitation, recite the Hundred Syllable Mantra one hundred thousand times. During Guru Yoga, accumulate one hundred thousand mandalas as practice. Third, the special preliminary practices are: on a comfortable seat, straighten the body posture. The key point of speech is to clear away impure air and stop speaking, allowing the breath to flow naturally. The key point of mind is to cut off all elaborations of the three times. Abandon discrimination towards the objects of the five senses. Turn awareness inward and, like a young child, relax and let the mind rest naturally. This is also called the three solitudes, or the three immovables, or the three gates resting naturally. Second, the main practice has three parts: meditating on calm abiding based on a support, seeking insight based on reliance, and introducing the union of the two. First, set up any object of focus, such as a small wooden stick in front of oneself. Stare at it without blinking. Let awareness also be absorbed in it. Rest in a relaxed state without distraction. When abiding, do not become too attached to that experience, but slightly relax and rest. Then meditate again as before. Practice in this way in short, frequent sessions, divided into four sessions. During all the intervals between sessions, maintain continuous mindfulness without losing that state. Look no further than the tip of the nose. All movement should be slow, like the behavior of a sick person. As an example, visualize a white drop between the eyebrows, and on the seat, visualize a black drop the size of a small pill and hold the mind. Furthermore, meditate as before, using the supports of the body, speech, and mind of the authentic Buddha as objects of focus. If you know and are able, focus the mind on vase breathing or vajra recitation. Even if you do this, if you still have not grasped the essence of abiding, then recognize when thoughts arise. Do not become weary of meditation, but grasp the key point and meditate, so that thoughts become more and more subtle, and abiding arises. In any case,
