While practicing, although obstacles do not appear in reality, if they harm the mind, they become demons like unobstructed ones. Said. If demons are suppressed with ferocity, how should one practice? Asked. Emaho! This is also the key point of my instructions: whatever movement arises, whatever appearance manifests, if you do not deliberately do anything, then you can suppress the unobstructed demons with ferocity. The realm that arises in the mind is the demon, and grasping at the grasper is investigation. Not grasping at the grasper is a son of the lineage. Not blocking arising sensations is a son of the lineage. Not fabricating body and mind is a son of the lineage. Not entering into concepts is a son of the lineage. If you practice in this way, you will be able to suppress the demons. Said. How to destroy the thoughts of demons? How to cut the rope of pride? Asked. Whatever you like and are attached to, if you do not grasp it with no object of focus, it is not the meaning of going to the other shore, so you have fallen under the control of demons. Right now, our own nature is the demon, but in our own nature, the demon also exists. Because self-nature is not established in itself, the demon cannot be established either. By the nature of reality, which has no basis,

It is difficult to walk. Initially, with an arrogant mind towards the instructions, merely going to solitary places, etc., if not turned by adverse conditions, the instructions will surely become a companion. If there is concern about harm to body and mind, or obstacles to life, practicing will increase awareness. Increased awareness will give rise to experiential realization. Once you have experience in this way, even with the adverse conditions that arise initially, you will naturally gain control. Adverse conditions stimulate diligence in Dharma. Therefore, it is crucial to go to solitary places. Go to solitary places, son of good family. In this way, by carrying the burden of conceptual thoughts, the worry that ghosts and demons will arise for oneself, that conceptual thought will naturally cease. In the mind itself, which is without doubt, ghosts will not arise without cause. Likewise, all conceptual thoughts will cease. Even if a hundred thoughts arise, they are companions for practice. Thus he spoke. How is the way of looking at the view? He asked. Because the mind is not dualistic, look in a way that does not look. Looking does not see one's own mind. Not seeing is the nature of reality. Seeing does not mean the nature of reality. Therefore, there is nothing to be looked at, not even a particle. Thus he spoke. When going to solitary places, how should the mind itself be placed? He replied: Emaho! Son of good family. The body should be placed in the manner of a corpse. Place it in a state of having no owner. The mind should be placed in the manner of the sky. Like a lamp that is not moved by the wind, place it in a state of clarity and non-conceptualization. Like the ocean that is not moved by the wind, place it in a state of stillness and clarity. Alas! Son of good family. Awareness should be placed firmly. It should be placed in its natural state without any effort or activity. Because the mind itself has no inherent nature, place it without engaging in the grasping of meditation or non-meditation. Because it is unborn and free from activity, relax and loosen. Completely relax. Because the nature of reality is free from conceptual thought, do not engage in any calculation. Because the nature of reality transcends both faults and virtues, do not think about faults or virtues. Sometimes, like a dry human head, keep the five sense faculties wide open. Or, like a child falling asleep, lie down peacefully. Because the nature of reality is free from attachment, like a shooting star or a warrior shooting an arrow, direct awareness far away and rest there. Only to be liberated from samsara, not for the sake of buddhahood, therefore rest without bias.
