Or is there no attachment? 4. When looking at it, does the arising of thoughts completely disappear without a trace? 5. When thoughts arise, does the self-liberated, clear awareness appear nakedly without clinging? 6. If it is like the latter, then what is the difference between the naked clear awareness on top of the previous abiding and the naked clear awareness seen on top of the current thought? If thoughts arise without clinging, observe whether there is a thought of "no clinging" or not. 7. By pulling the thought back and placing it in clarity-emptiness, has it become clear awareness? 8. By looking at the nature of the spontaneously born, primordial consciousness that has not been corrupted by anything, observe whether appearance and liberation occur simultaneously. 9. Be sure to observe whether the uncommon way of appearing is integrated into your own mindstream. Session Eighteen. Third, observing from the perspective of appearances: Slightly adjust the previously established posture. Direct your gaze towards an object such as a pillar, vase, wall, mountain, or house, whichever is appropriate, and then look at it nakedly. Relax slightly, and then look again. Similarly, for the objects of the five senses—form, sound, smell, taste, and touch—observe their nature, color, shape, the three aspects of arising, ceasing, and abiding, and so on. Observe the root of all things such as sickness, suffering, heat, and cold. After observing in this way, do appearances cease? Do self and appearances appear as different? Do appearances return to the mind? Or does the mind grasp outward, thinking, "This is an appearance"? Observe whether mind and appearances are inseparable, whether they are in a state of clear emptiness without objects. When looking at an object, if the object is clearly there, is there a voice that thinks, "This is it"? Observe whether, in the relaxed state where there is no thought of "This is it" and the object has not ceased, the mind that is looking is also in a state of ungrasping relaxation, like a child seeing a temple, and whether there is even a thought that the two are neither one nor different, but something similar. If it is like the first case, then observe where the thought of "This is it" is. Session Nineteen. Fourth, observing whether body and mind are different: So, are body and mind one or different? If they are one, how can the body, which is subject to birth and death, and the mind, which is not subject to birth and death, be the same? Moreover, the body is matter, and the mind is consciousness, so they are not the same. If they were the same, then when the body dies, the mind would also die. If a thorn pricks the body, the mind would also

And it will also hurt. If they are different, when a thorn pierces the body, which feels it, the body or the mind? If only the body feels it, then the sense of taste will also feel it. If the mind feels it, then the body and mind are different, and when the body is pricked, if the mind feels it, then if damage is done to earth and stones, the mind should also feel pain, but this is not the case. Therefore, observe well. Also, understand all arising feelings like water and waves and observe. Twentieth Dharma session. Fifth, observing whether the two, abiding and moving, are one or different: Again, in the state of clear emptiness of mind, observe the nature of the clear and empty abiding time. Again, let a thought move and observe its nature. Investigate whether the nature of these two is one or different. If they are different, how are they different in terms of color, shape, and nature? Are these two equal in strength like threads laid side by side on the ground? 1. When abiding, is the observation like a moving wooden cart? 2. Like a twisted rope, do they alternately abide and not abide, move and not abide? 3. If they are one, how can moving, which is the nine movements that do not move, and abiding, which is the still abiding, be one? If they are one, is it like a method where iron turns into gold, and abiding transforms and becomes one? 4. Are they mixed together like water and milk to become one? 5. Like water and waves, although there is no difference in nature, they alternately appear, and they do not change in abiding time and moving time. Is the nature of both, not abiding in moving time, one of clear emptiness? 6. If you think it is like the latter, pull the thought back and place it in meditation, is it clear emptiness? 7. After disappearing? 8. Whatever arises suddenly, observe all that disappears without a trace. 9. Having observed in this way, abiding and moving are determined. Observation should also be like a child looking at a temple. As long as you generate diligence from the heart for this method of observation, and do not cling to profound and dry understanding, you will surely see the true face of the mind. Twenty-first Dharma session. Second, introduction: By doing as in the first method of observation, the nature of the mind of abiding and moving is not purely emptiness either. In the state of abiding, there is no color, shape, etc., no clinging awareness like this, clear, empty, comfortable, unable to be expressed in words, if you say that you recognize and determine that there is such a clear and empty non-clinging, if it is understanding, it cannot penetrate and nothing can be obtained. If it arises from within, oh, that is the vipassanā that arises when abiding, so
