At the end of those four, all experiences and realizations will arise effortlessly. Those are the special preliminaries, the stages of the preliminaries. These sessions of accomplishment supports, combined into one session, there are nine sessions in total. Fourth, the main practice, which is divided into calm abiding and insight. First, there are two aspects: the posture of the body and the essence of the mind. First, the posture of the body: legs in the vajra posture, hands in meditative equipoise four fingers below the navel, spine straight, shoulders spread like the wings of a vulture, neck slightly bent, tongue touching the upper palate or naturally placed, eyes half-open and half-closed, gazing at the space four fingers in front of the tip of the nose. Settling in this way, not out of doubt, contraction, or discomfort, but settling comfortably and relaxedly, so that gradually the downward-clearing wind is brought under control, the water element enters the central channel, the fire-equalizing and earth winds enter the central channel, the pervasive and fire winds enter the central channel, and the life-sustaining and air winds enter the central channel; there is a need for this. Moreover, settling the posture of the body in that way makes the channels and winds workable, and countless qualities arise, and merely settling the posture of the body alone brings about self-igniting experiences and realizations, so settle the posture of the body in that way. First, exhale a little stale air, then naturally and effortlessly, roughly clarify all the preliminaries, and then let yourself settle comfortably. Among these, the essence of the mind is divided into two: common and uncommon. First, do not cut off or think about the past, do not greet the future, do not think, 'I will do this, I will do that.' For the present, without calculating, eliminating, or establishing, in the state of spontaneously arising ordinary awareness, without making any acceptance or rejection, hope or fear, fabrication or modification, just let it settle as it is, naturally and relaxed. Ten sessions in total. Second, the uncommon is: if you cannot settle the mind, place a piece of wood or a small pebble in front of you and focus your mind on it. Or, arrange or mentally create an image of the body of the Thus-Gone One adorned with marks and signs, and if dullness, sinking, or turbidity occur, focus on the crown of the head or the urna hair between the eyebrows; if excitement or scattering occur, focus on the navel or the wheel and cushion edge at the soles of the feet; if there is no dullness or excitement, focus on the entire body or the auspicious knot at the heart. Mentally enumerate all the excellent signs one by one from top to bottom and from bottom to top.

There are two ways to clarify what is being done. Third, focus on a candle flame about four fingers wide. Fourth, focus on a hole that is as empty as the sky, of any size. Fifth, write the letters of the Buddha's body, speech, and mind, white Om (藏文:ༀ,梵文天城体:ओ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡), red Ah (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:阿), and blue Hum (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽), in front of you and focus on them. Sixth, draw white, red, blue, or any other colored bindus in front of you, or focus on the object in front of you. In short, focus on whatever form is appropriate. There are many such methods, but these are sufficient. Grasp and focus on whatever is easiest to focus on, and that is enough. There is no need to focus on everything in a sequential manner. If you cannot determine how to settle, do not focus on anything, and let the mind remain in its own state. If it wants to move, let it move. Do not force it, let it be free. Completely cut off all thoughts such as "I am meditating," "I am not meditating," "Is the mind settled?" "Is the mind not settled?" If the object of focus moves, becomes numb, or the eyes blur, stop focusing and look at the space directly between the eyebrows, and let the mind relax naturally. Do not impose any control on this meditation, just remain undistracted, and remain aware and clear, without being tainted by dullness. Separate meditation and rest into short sessions with many repetitions, and repeatedly settle into stillness with clarity and vigor, repeatedly interrupt, and do not become discouraged, but strive to practice. Eleven sessions. Then, focus on the mind, and on the sounds heard by the ears, the smells smelled by the nose, the tastes tasted by the tongue, the tactile sensations felt by the body, and so on. Gradually focus on all the sounds heard, the smells smelled, and so on, focusing on the clarity of the sound, the fragrance of the smell, and so on, without being distracted, grasping them with the hook of mindfulness, and letting them exist naturally, without making any judgments about good or bad, big or small, and so on. Focus on anything, interrupt when it becomes clear, and rest. Do not allow confusion to enter. During all the meditation breaks, maintain unbroken mindfulness, lower the gaze of the eyes to the tip of the nose, maintain the body in walking, sitting, and lying down, do not speak harshly or excessively, and also cut off conceptual thoughts with the mind, and gradually become accustomed to peaceful abiding. Twelve sessions. Furthermore, if dullness or agitation arises when focusing on the mind within, in order to eliminate these, visualize the yidam or deity in the heart,
