Four consorts with the signs. Each of them has three levels: superior, middling, and inferior. Examine them according to the scriptures and rely on the superior or middling one that you find. The inferior one should not be relied upon. The one to be relied upon should also have a pure lineage, and for a month, nourish her complexion with rich food and drink. When her radiance is flourishing, contemplate according to the mind and rituals, and then settle into (union). The inserted blade of grass should conform to the four kinds of reality: as thin as a lotus stalk, as sharp as the tip of a spear, as cutting as the edge of a sword, as smooth as the surface of a mirror. Generally, it is best if the blade of grass is very thin, and only those who are born with excellent qualities will naturally manifest a blade of grass at birth. For those who do not naturally manifest it, one should find a method to find the blade of grass and insert the tip of the grass into the vajra's hole. Contemplate that all the blades of grass are trembling, like the head of a snake being moved by the wind, and feel a trembling sensation in the navel area. The guiding and spreading should be done as before. By practicing in this way, from the first day to the eleventh day, one will not faint from pleasure. Some people may faint from pleasure from the very beginning. Third, the common teachings for both paths: Twenty-four aspects of experiential instructions: First, the power of reversing the downward-clearing energy upwards causes the bliss-wind to blaze in the body, and warmth and bliss arise simultaneously without a fixed order. The mind is pervaded with joy and bliss. Wild speech arises from the mouth, or sudden cries of "Oh!" This is the samadhi called "the three doors pervaded by great desire." Transforming afflictions into the path of desire, gradually abandoning attachment to objects. The inner wind pacifies diseases. Liberation from the five classes of female demons. The left channel, Rakshasi, is subdued. One gains power over the entering wind. Bliss arises even in dreams. One obtains the name of the gate of liberation—without aspiration. These eight are the first limb, namely, the cause itself is transformed into the path. Second, by the power of directing the downward-clearing energy, experiences arise all at once. When bliss arises, awareness is clear and light. The arising of great compassion is samadhi. The ultimate clarity that arises from unpleasant circumstances is great hatred, so transform afflictions into the path of hatred. Pacify diseases of blood and bile. Liberation from male demonic influences. The right channel, Roma, is subdued.

One gains the power to expel the downward-moving air. In dreams, the mind can clearly and lightly sit in the lotus position in the sky, etc. One obtains the name of the gate of liberation, the signless. These eight are the second branch, arising from the power of co-emergent causes. Third, through the power of drawing up the downward-clearing air, together with the previous one, the naturally non-conceptual innate awareness arises, which is samadhi. Since one does not conceptualize any object, it is great ignorance, so one transforms the affliction of delusion into the path. Diseases of phlegm subside. Harmful influences of wind-related spirits cannot affect one. The Avadhuti (Sanskrit: Avadhūti) channel is brought under control. One gains power over the abiding of the air. Since the mind is non-conceptual, without before or after, there is no difference between being asleep and not asleep, so one does not awaken from sleep. One obtains the name of the gate of liberation, emptiness, and is liberated from the two, grasper and grasped. These eight are the third branch, and they also arise from the power of co-emergent causes. In total, these twenty-four branches are co-emergent experiences. Third, there are also three co-emergent fruits. First, how the signs appear; second, how the conduct is practiced; and finally, how the actual fruit is obtained. First, after the three experiences arise in the mindstream, three signs appear in the three doors of body, speech, and mind. In terms of the body, a special sign of benefiting others is that when one sees a suffering being afflicted by illness and harmful influences, merely touching or stepping on them with the hand, or even applying excrement and urine, will pacify the suffering. In terms of speech, merely uttering words of aspiration, such as "May the illness be cured," will accomplish those things, and the supreme accomplishment of speech will be achieved. In terms of the mind, the first sign is that dreams become increasingly clear. Then one sees non-human beings. Then one can recognize the benefits and harms of the meditative experience itself. Furthermore, three signs will appear in this life, at the time of death, and in the bardo. The signs that appear in this life are: the body is light, the complexion is radiant, one has little attachment to food, clothing, or anything else, one's activities are accomplished without hindrance, and one suddenly remembers forgotten things. Second, at the time of death, there is no pain of cutting the vital point, one does not fear death, one does not desire the body of gods or humans, and one departs without being separated from one's experience of samadhi. Third, in the bardo, one feels as if one is meeting the lama, and one feels as if one is seeing the face of the Buddha.
