These too will dissolve. That is, the five branch winds cease to function. The energy of the channels and elements is exhausted, and the eye consciousness dissolves, leading to the inability to recognize people. Subtle forms cannot be seen. The ear consciousness dissolves, leading to the inability to hear small sounds. The nose consciousness dissolves, leading to the inability to smell odors. The tongue consciousness dissolves, leading to the inability to taste flavors. The body consciousness dissolves, leading to the inability to feel the comfort or discomfort of the bed. In this way, the ten winds cease to function, and the four elements and senses dissolve. The winds of the four elements cease. The sky wind ceases to function from the crown of the head, and the wind does not return to its original place but spreads outward. These are common signs of death. For some, due to the influence of illness or evil spirits, there may be a reversal at some point. Second, how do the thoughts of the three appearances cease? In this way, the support and the supported cease to function, leading to the dissolution of appearances and thoughts. After this, there is no possibility of reversal, so it is a unique sign of death. The tantra says: When sentient beings die, the essence of the moon falls like a waterfall, and the rays of the sun rise upward. Therefore, the essence of Kunda, obtained from the father, located at the upper end of the central channel, appears in the form of "ཧཾ་" (Tibetan, Devanagari: हं, Romanized Sanskrit: haṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: హం), due to the exhaustion of the energy of the right channel, the upper breath is completely exhausted and ceases to function, flowing downward, so it is called the white path, and all appearances become white and bright. This is the dissolution of appearance. At that time, the thirty-three thoughts arising from hatred cease. The essence of Ashad, obtained from the mother, located at the lower end of the central channel, at the navel, appears in the form of "ཨ་ཤད་" (Tibetan, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: 阿), due to the exhaustion of the energy of the left channel, the lower breath is completely exhausted and ceases to function, rising upward, so it is called the red path, and all appearances become red and bright. This leads to the dissolution of all the expansion of appearance. At that time, the forty thoughts arising from desire cease. Then, starting from the crown of the head, the pervasive wind ceases to function. The king of self-aware mind is gathered by the pervasive karma wind and ceases to function, so it is called the black path, and all appearances become pitch black. This is the dissolution of appearance into near attainment. At that time, the seven thoughts arising from ignorance cease. In this way, the sky wind ceases, leading to the cessation of external breathing. At that time, one will experience the tormenting suffering of the separation of matter and consciousness. Third, how does the harbinger of the secret, luminous Dharmakaya appear? At the time when the internal breath has not yet ceased, the rising sun and the moon

The two channels arising from below, the two channels arising from the middle, the two channels converge in the central channel. At that time, the wind-mind enters, and the three enter the central channel. When the three abide in the central channel, one experiences the joy of co-emergent wisdom. This is the true meaning of death, the self-luminous nature appearing like the center of a clear sky, naked and bright. Due to the differences in the merit of sentient beings, some last a long time, and some last a short time. As short as the time it takes to flex and extend a hand, or even just the time it takes for a lamp wick to burn. Even if it appears, it is not recognized because it has never been encountered before, and it cannot be sustained because it is unfamiliar. At this time, the radiance of the corpse will disappear. Then, the crown chakra of great bliss will contract, the throat chakra of enjoyment will be exhausted, the heart chakra of dharma will be broken, and the navel chakra of emanation will be scattered. Between A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A) and Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum), the disease of wind flow will interrupt breathing. Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) sinks down, and bindu will arise in the secret place. A (Tibetan: ཨ, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A) rises up, and blood or pus will flow out from the mouth, nose, etc. Consciousness is no different from the wind of space, and it flows out from any of the nine orifices. Fourth, the actual Phowa (transference of consciousness) is divided into three parts, the first part being the preparation and practice for the Phowa of the luminous sphere: First, invite the deity who is inseparable from the lama in front, continuously confess and pray with strong devotion, then take a squatting posture, blocking the anus and urethra with the two heels, and cross the palms of the hands, facing upwards. Visualize yourself as a deity or an ordinary person, whichever is appropriate. In the heart of the body, which is like an empty egg, visualize a bindu the size of a thumb. From this bindu, separate out bindus identical to the anus and urethra, navel, mouth, nose, eyes, and crown, and block these orifices. Then, directly in front of the navel, visualize a wind bow shape, and on top of the bow shape, visualize the mind-essence as a black Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) syllable. Look upwards with the eyes, and pull the two lower wind channels upwards. With twenty powerful Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) sounds, guide the wind, moon, and Hum (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) to the throat. Then, with the sounds Ka (Tibetan: ཀ, Devanagari: क, Romanized Sanskrit: ka, Literal Chinese meaning: Ka) and Ha (Tibetan: ཧ, Devanagari: ह, Romanized Sanskrit: ha, Literal Chinese meaning: Ha), lower the three back to the navel. If obstacles to transference arise, lower the three to the soles of the feet, or focus the mind on a black dot the size of a bean on the soles of the feet. Second, apply this method to practice: At the time of death, in a secluded place, cut off all distractions of the past, present, and future. Cut off possessions, houses, retinue, guru, disciples, yidam, self.
