One should think like this. Furthermore, if the "I" that is grasped in that way is established as one with the aggregates, then because it is a truly established one, it would become completely one in every way. In that case, there would be many faults, such as the "I" or self being the taker of the five aggregates, and the five aggregates or self not being the object to be taken. Therefore, one should think that the "I" that is grasped in that way is not established as one with the five aggregates. The fourth key to ascertaining the absence of true difference is: Although the "I" that is grasped in that way is not established as one on top of the five aggregates, if one thinks that it is established as different on top of the five aggregates, then just as the five aggregates can be individually identified as "This is the aggregate of consciousness" after each of the aggregates of form, etc., has been removed, it is also necessary to be able to individually identify the "I" that is grasped in that way as "This is it" after each of the aggregates of form, etc., has been removed. But since it is not like that, one should think that the "I" that is grasped in that way is not established as different from the five aggregates. Thus, by relying on the analysis of the four keys, from the certainty that there is no "I" like the one grasped by the innate self-grasping, one should cultivate the continuum of that certainty single-pointedly, free from dullness and agitation. Moreover, when the force of that certainty has diminished slightly, beginners should rely on the analysis of the four keys as before to generate the certainty of absence of truth. Those of higher intelligence, on the other hand, rely on analyzing how the "I" appears in the innate self-grasping to analyze whether it is established or not, thereby generating the certainty of absence of truth in the same way as analyzing the four keys. At that time, in the appearance of certainty, there will be a firm and unwavering certainty that the "I" is without inherent existence, and in the appearance of appearance, there will be the distinction of a mere negation of the truly established object to be refuted, which is empty and clear. Cultivating this single-pointedly is the way to cultivate meditative equipoise like the sky. In the post-meditation period, one should contemplate all phenomena, including the "I", as illusory appearances. That is, by relying on generating a strong certainty of absence of truth in meditative equipoise, one should train in the post-meditation period to make whatever appears manifest as an illusory appearance that is apparent but without truth, false, and like a magic trick. Second, establishing the absence of self of phenomena and how to meditate on it, has two parts: establishing the absence of inherent existence of conditioned phenomena and how to meditate on it.

And after determining that unconditioned phenomena are without inherent existence, this is the method of practice. First, among the three—form, consciousness, and non-associated compositional factors—taking the body as an example, if there is a body that exists inherently on this aggregate of five components consisting of flesh, bones, and gross limbs, and is not merely imputed by conceptual thought, then we would undeniably perceive it as an appearance to be refuted. If such a body exists on this aggregate of five components consisting of flesh, bones, and gross limbs, is it one with or different from this aggregate of five components consisting of flesh, bones, and gross limbs? If it is one, then this aggregate of five components consisting of flesh, bones, and gross limbs is formed from the sperm and blood of parents. The drop of sperm and blood, which is the basis for the entry of consciousness, would also become the aggregate of five components consisting of flesh, bones, and gross limbs. Just as there are five components, the body would also become five bodies composed of five components. If it is different, then after removing each of the limbs such as the head, it would be necessary to point out "This is the body," but this is not the case. Therefore, one should be convinced that there is no such body at all and cultivate this understanding. Second, taking today's consciousness as an example, if there is a consciousness of today that is not merely imputed by conceptual thought but exists inherently on the consciousness of this morning and the consciousness of this afternoon, is the consciousness of this morning and the consciousness of this afternoon one or different? If it is one, then the consciousness of this afternoon would exist on the consciousness of this morning. If it is different, then after separately removing the consciousness of this morning and the consciousness of this afternoon, it would be necessary to point out "This is the consciousness of today," but this is not the case. Therefore, one should be convinced that there is no such consciousness at all and practice as before. Third, taking a year as an example, if there is a year that is not merely imputed by conceptual thought but exists inherently on the twelve months that are the basis for the designation of a year, is it one with or different from these twelve months? If it is one, then just as there are twelve months, the year would also become twelve.
