and without, and appearance, and not clinging to any extreme of emptiness. In reality, it transcends the calculation of what is or is not. There are three reasons for establishing liberation from extremes: reason, scripture, and logic. The reason is: it is established by the reason of the independent essence, because it does not depend on anything, so it is free from extremes, therefore it does not abide in any extreme. Therefore, it is called the view of non-discriminating the middle from the extremes. The scripture establishes that: from the scripture of great power and perfect qualities, it is said that liberation is called liberation because it is free from extremes. The logic is: it is established by the logic of knowing one and liberating all, because knowing one is free from extremes, therefore it is liberated from all such appearances, because there is no clinging to any dependence. The way of liberation is: not abiding in the extreme of existence, therefore liberating from the extreme of non-existence, not abiding in the extreme of non-existence, therefore liberating the extreme of existence, not abiding in both existence and non-existence, therefore both are liberated, not being both, therefore liberating not being both. Fifth, relying on the key of one liberation being unparalleled, and showing the means and wisdom without exception is: one is the Great Perfection, the single bindu, which is the very nature of being free from elaboration, because it is liberated in that state, so all the extremes of many numbers are emptiness. The key to one liberation being unparalleled has four: the understanding of one liberation, the reasonableness of establishing one liberation, the way of liberation, and the metaphor. The understanding of one liberation is: one liberation is not unreasonable, because in one, one is liberated, there is nothing that is not realized. Therefore, awareness from the beginning transcends the words of liberation and non-liberation. There are three reasons for establishing one liberation: reason, scripture, and logic. It is established by reason: all liberations are not other, because there is nothing other than one, therefore it is called liberation, one is awareness itself. Moreover, because there is no other dharma that is not self-luminous awareness. It is established by scripture: from the Essence of Gold it is said: The nature of the only liberation, because many are of one taste. It is established by logic: it is established by knowing one and liberating all, because knowing one is awareness, therefore all samsara and nirvana are liberated. The way of liberation is: recognizing in the nature of reality, therefore all appearances and awareness are liberated. The metaphor is: because knowing many as one taste, so the taste of one salt.

If the taste is determined, then the taste of all salts is determined, just as knowing one brown sugar or one fire, one knows all. As it is said in the Commentary on the Bodhicitta: 'The nature of fire is heat, the nature of brown sugar is sweetness. Likewise, the nature of all dharmas is one taste of emptiness.' Just like that. Therefore, these five ways of liberation are not considered for the same person, but according to the differences in faculties, one is liberated by whatever one prefers. Third, the five are shown to conclude the five ways of liberation: Here, these five ways of liberation are free from dependence, because they are self-liberation, so they are free from dependence on the view, meditation, and practice of the object of focus. All conditions are liberated by conditions, for example, just as dirt washes away dirt, bad conditions are liberated by bad conditions, and thus appear as a companion of wisdom. Primordial purity is liberated by primordial purity, and awareness is liberated by awareness. Primordial liberation is free from dependence on the union of grasping and being grasped, therefore, objects are liberated by objects, like destroying poisons with poison. Immediate liberation does not depend on either samsara or nirvana, therefore, cause is liberated by cause, for example, like cutting iron with iron. Ultimate liberation does not depend on terms, therefore, dharma is liberated by dharma, for example, the fire that arises from wood burns the wood itself. One liberation does not depend on the liberating wisdom, therefore, the nature of mind is liberated by mind, for example, like breaking stones with stones. As it is said in the Garland of Pearls: 'Since all conditions are liberated by conditions, I do not depend on the dharma of focus. Since objects are liberated by objects, I do not depend on the two, grasping and being grasped. Since cause is liberated by cause, I do not depend on the two, samsara and nirvana. Since dharma is liberated by dharma, I do not depend on terms. Since the nature of mind is liberated by mind, I do not depend on the signifying wisdom. Just as dirt washes away dirt, so purity is liberated by purity. Poison destroys poisons, iron cuts iron, stones break stones, just as wood burns wood. One's own enemy is destroyed by oneself, not liberated by dissimilar things.' Just like that. Since everything is complete in awareness, there is no point that is incomplete, therefore, when awareness is liberated, all dharmas are liberated, just as when the foundation collapses, the dependent object also collapses.
