place. Therefore, all phenomena of mind and matter are merely imputed. Thus it is said. Second, elaborating on the growth of inner arising, there are two aspects: the common detailed classification and the individual nature of each classification. First, the five gross elements of the body rely on the five pure elements within, thus becoming inner arising. These are wind, fire, earth, water, and space, each of which exists in fivefold divisions, resulting in twenty-five branches. The reason for this certainty is that it is determined by relying on five different functions. As stated in "Self-Arisen": The five great elements are complete within one's own body. Among them, the five aspects of wind produce the sound of wisdom, the five aspects of fire produce the power of wisdom, the five aspects of earth produce the essence of wisdom, the five aspects of water produce the realm of wisdom, and the five aspects of space produce the place of wisdom. Thus it is said. The second is divided into five: elaborating on the nature of wind, fire, earth, water, and space. The first is further divided into two: the fundamental classification and the detailed explanation of the branch classifications. The fundamental classification is, as stated in "Self-Arisen": What are the five aspects of wind? They are the life-sustaining wind, the wind that generates radiance and brilliance, the wind that accompanies fire, the pervasive wind, and the merciless karmic wind of the eon's end. These winds reside in the head and tail of the bodies of all sentient beings. Thus it is said. Among them, the life-sustaining wind resides in the life-force channel, the wind that generates radiance and brilliance resides in the eyebrows, the wind that accompanies fire resides in the stomach, the pervasive wind pervades the entire body, and the karmic wind resides between the heart and the pericardium. Their functions are, respectively: sustaining life, generating radiance, digesting food, moving around, and transferring lifespan, in that order. Second, the branch classifications are that each of the five winds is further divided into five. First, the five aspects of the life-sustaining wind are, as stated in "Self-Arisen": The life-sustaining wind also has five aspects, namely the life that holds the root, the life that protects, the extremely subtle life, the impure life, and the trembling life. These also, in order, are: generating the sound of awareness, generating the sound of bindu, generating the sound of light, holding the root of ignorance, and mind.

It exists in the life force as a companion, and the tone of the life-wind depends on the tone of awareness. Second, the five winds that are with fire are: Again, it says from there, there are also five winds that are with fire, namely: the wind that separates essence and dross, the wind that generates heat, the wind that makes it clear and changes, the wind that completely gathers, and the wind that completely praises. These also exist inseparably from life, inseparably from awareness, inseparably from the lamp, inseparably from the bindu, and inseparably from wisdom, respectively. Third, the five winds that generate radiance and brilliance also say from there, there are also five winds that generate radiance and brilliance, namely: the wind that generates various consciousnesses, the wind that generates various aversions, the wind that generates various radiances, the wind that burns various things, and the wind that is rough. These also successively become the mount of the realm of wisdom, the realm of appearance, the realm of the lamp, the realm of ignorance, and the realm of mind. Fourth, the five pervasive winds are: In Self-Arisen, it says, there are also five kinds of pervasive winds, namely: the wind that pervades the base, the wind that pervades immediately, the wind that pervades previous fear, the wind that pervades memory, and the wind that pervades the whole body with clinging. These also successively become the ability to appear in wisdom, to appear in the lamp, to appear in awareness, to appear in thought, and to appear in the mind. Fifth, the five winds of merciless action are: Again, it says from there, there are also five winds of merciless kalpa action, namely: the wind of various actions, the wind of various liberations, the wind of various removals, the wind of various swiftness, and the wind of the moment. These also pervade the aggregates, pervade the moment, pervade the bardo, pervade the distinctions, and pervade the three of the moment, unborn, and complete. Thus, the twenty-five are also included in the five roots, and the explanation of these is: In Self-Arisen, it says, because it acts on the pure ground, it is called the wind of action. Because it holds the life of pure wisdom, it is called the life-holding wind. Because the five lights of wisdom are natural
