Fifteenth Layer: Explaining the Source of Arising Fifteenth Layer: Explaining the Source of Arising The Tantra called "The Precious Treasury of Profound Meaning" resides. Lower Volume. Thus, having explained the distinctions of the Alaya and Dharmakaya, etc., now there are two explanations of the nature of dependent origination: the common distinctions and the detailed explanation of the individual natures. The first is: external arising and internal arising, two types. As it says in Rangshar: "Arising is shown as two types: external arising and internal arising." These external arisings, such as earth and water, exist as the basis for internal arising, and because they are related as the basis and what depends on it, it is certain that there are two types of arising. There are no sentient beings or Buddhas who do not rely on these two. Sentient beings act in the realm of the five confused arisings and possess the nature of the five great elements. The Buddhas abide in the realm of the five pure arisings of ultimate purity, such as the absence of solidity, and act in a state where the defilements of the five great elements are completely exhausted. Among them, the great elements are the five-colored clear light wisdom, and the small elements are the five: earth, water, fire, wind, and space. The five pure arisings are: clear, warm, light, cool, expansive, and possessing the nature of movement. When the five confused arisings are purified, the five clear lights enter the expanse and meet the inner realm, like the pure great elements of spontaneous manifestation. The small elements also have two types: the form of arising and the actual arising. The form of arising is the five: earth, water, fire, wind, and space, which are currently visible externally. The actual arising is the five qualities of the body, such as solidity, which are the five that serve as the basis for internal arising. Internal arising is: because the realm is pure, the five elements of the basis and phenomena are distinct. Therefore, all of samsara and nirvana do not move from the realm of the five arisings, and before there were the five arisings, there was no arising of samsara and nirvana. As it says in Rangshar: "Alas! Listen, Lord of Secrets! The characteristics of the five arisings are: I have explained, may you understand. The great elements, the Bhagavan, naturally exist in all beings. All sentient beings of the three realms act in the realm of the five arisings. Before there were the arisings, there was not even the name of Buddha or sentient being. The five arisings themselves are the realm of the mother, not beyond the five arisings."

There is not a single sentient being. The elements of the beings residing there are shown in two ways. Thus it is. Second, to explain the individual nature in detail, there are two: explaining the outer elements in detail, and explaining the inner elements in detail. First, there are ten aspects: essence, definition, necessity, characteristic, function, nature, meaning connection, way of liberation, division, and completeness. First, the essence is: the outer elements appear as form, and are the play of the inner elements' reality. Because they are included within the inner, there are five elements. From Self-Arisen it says: The outer elements are as follows: earth, water, fire, and also wind and space. Thus, the five outer elements of form are formed as the appearance of the vessel of reliance for sentient beings, and the five inner elements of reality are formed as the reliance of mind and intelligence. From Other-Emptiness it says: The desire of the elements is as follows: From the distinction of common karma, sentient beings rely on the outer elements with their individual bases of karma, and desire to perfect action, nourishment, senses, wheels, and birth. Thus it is. Second, the definition is: From Self-Arisen it says: The definition of the elements is as follows: Not made, but spontaneously accomplished. Because it causes to arise, it is an element. Because it pervades all beings, it is a great element. Because it arises simultaneously, it is a great element. Because it exists in itself, it is a great element. Because it is without change, it is a great element. Because it appears harmoniously, it is a great element. The definition of the great element is just so. Thus it is. Third, the necessity is: From Other-Emptiness it says: The necessity of the elements is as follows: Water collects essence and separates impurities. Because it acts on each body, one knows the necessity of hot and cold. Earth holds the base and performs the functions of forming and establishing. Ripening produces veins and so on. One knows the necessity of conventional bindus. Fire propagates the elements and performs the functions of ripening and clarifying. Burning and spreading produces eyes and so on. One knows the necessity of heat. Wind destroys and lifts, and performs the functions of moving and shaking. Moving and stretching holds the body, and one knows the necessity of the mind's dwelling. The four elements are the great mandala of my being, acting as the cause of accomplishing the body and so on, residing in the middle.
