When consciousness disappears from external objects, at the moment when external objects appear, without looking at the place of appearance, but recognizing that the basis of appearance is emptiness, then external appearances are not abandoned, and there is liberation in appearance; internal thoughts are not abandoned, and there is liberation in thoughts, which happens simultaneously. It is like untying a knot with a lasso, liberating simultaneously in two directions. The part where the intermediate consciousness is liberated is called liberation in ignorance, luminosity, and emptiness. When awareness nakedly recognizes its own face, all its powers appear as self-born purity and play, and there is no place that is not liberated. Because there is no involvement of thought on the groundless basis, liberation in itself is the natural state of Dharma. In short, if you grasp with conceptual thought, you will be bound; if you let go, you will be liberated; if you do not cling to anything, you will transcend the boundaries of bondage and liberation. The "String of Pearls" says: From the impermanent arising, the mind that necessarily appears is liberated. All that appears as form is liberated in the state of no self-nature. Formless things are liberated as real. Dharma is liberated by Dharma, and non-existence is also liberated by non-existence. One is liberated by one, and the two that appear as two are also liberated. The key to the dream of ignorance appearing as luminosity is: Even when intoxicated by sleep at night, etc., by sleeping in a natural, undistracted state, the coarse appearances disappear, and therefore attachment also disappears. Subtle and even extremely subtle attachments also disappear, and the mind of awareness, in a state of equanimity and non-discrimination, without arising or ceasing, hope or fear, abides in its own nature. Because all conceptual thoughts are liberated in the Dharmadhatu, it is said that samsara and nirvana are liberated. Sleep is entering the ground of ignorance, involuntarily gathering the mind inward. The subtle activities of dreams lie dormant in habits. Therefore, in order to tame dreams, the path of practice is shown: such as grasping dreams, taming dreams, transforming dreams, cutting off dreams, etc. Here, taming dreams with the key point of the non-conceptual nature of Dharma means sleeping in the lion posture, focusing undistractedly on the essence of emptiness. When sleep gathers the conceptual thoughts towards external objects and becomes increasingly subtle, do not interrupt this state. At this time, the prana and mind enter the central channel, not clinging to anything, and emptiness and the wisdom that knows emptiness merge together, and the prana and mind do not scatter outward, so there are no dreams, and one abides in the state of single luminosity.

Regarding the appearances seen and heard in the place and surroundings, there, the non-conceptual clarity and non-conceptuality transform into union, and the bliss of self-abiding and the three simultaneously arise, as it is said in the *Transcending Transformation*: "Having definitely gathered body, speech, and mind, blend the great luminosity with sleep." This is the meaning of that. To this, the venerable lama pays great attention. That is, initially dreams increase, and ultimately they cease. The superior one ceases from dullness, the intermediate one ceases from great clarity, and the inferior one ceases from dreaming of virtuous things. Superior and intermediate refer to focusing the mind on the clarity of sleep, and inferior refers to the action. In the same tantra, it is said: "These initially have many dreams, the superior ceases from dullness, the intermediate is very clear, know that to be inferior. The inferior is not clear, and then transforms. These ones reach the measure." Thus it is said. Showing sleep as self-born wisdom is: "Sleep is also the self-born primordial great expanse, all the displays dissolve into the essence of reality, by clinging to appearances, all elaborations naturally subside, it is the intention of effortless self-born wisdom." During the day, the awareness that arises from the display of wisdom is precisely the outward manifestation from self-born wisdom. At night, the clinging to appearances dissolves into the display of wisdom, and the display dissolves into the base. Therefore, temporarily abiding in the luminosity without any conceptualization is the self-born wisdom of sleep, and it is called the time of liberation from samsara. From the *Six Spaces* it is said: "Sleep should not be abandoned, it is not separately cut off by the mind. In short, body and speech abide separately, the arising parts of mind do not scatter outward, even for the objects of the six senses, the mind of awareness and examination does not change, in the great luminosity of self-appearance without conceptualization, the experience of clarity and non-thought arises." Thus it is said. By this, ignorance is also purified into dharmata. As it is said in the *Transcending Transformation*: "Whoever cultivates the yoga of sleep, this one transforms ignorance into the path." Thus it is said. The meteor of afflictions liberating in their own place is: "Thus, for the mind between liking and disliking, the three poisons arise as displays from wisdom, arising from the expanse and appearing in the nature of the expanse, since there is no movement apart from the expanse, without making any additions or alterations, immediately recognizing the expanse itself, abiding in that state, self-pacifying, self-dissolving, self-liberating is the key. Samsara and nirvana do not go beyond the nature of the expanse."
