Some debaters who claim to be methods of liberation say that these various external appearances are the mind of enlightenment, and one's own mind appears as such. However, here, the two teachings that state oneness in the realm of the mind of enlightenment are as different as heaven and earth. Those deluded ones believe that external appearances are the mind of enlightenment and one's own mind, while here it is believed that they arise from the clinging to self in the nature of the mind of enlightenment. From the moment of arising, it is merely a play of phenomena. Without inside or outside, the clear appearances are phenomena that cannot be established apart from mind and non-mind, arising from dependent origination, merely appearing due to interdependence. These various external appearances are illusory appearances, emptiness that is groundless and has never existed, and there is no difference between the emptiness of mind itself. We, all the phenomena encompassed by inside and outside, say that they are the single taste of the mind of enlightenment, and from the perspective of the nature of reality, there is no distinction. Even so, we do not consider the mere appearances of conventional phenomena and one's own mind to be the same. This is because they are mutually contradictory in substance, the relationship of coming and going, existence and non-existence between self and other cannot be established, and the distinctions of various phenomena, such as the object of appearance and the individual characteristics of appearance, are definite. It should be realized that this is completely different from the views of the deluded. In general, if we establish terminology, distinguishing between inside and outside, appearance and mind, delusion and non-delusion, samsara and nirvana, etc., in relative truth is the way of all Dharmas. If we follow the views of those deluded ones, the jumping of a dog and the jumping of a fox are the same, so there is no way to establish terminology, path, and purity or impurity. Because nothing is established in the nature of ultimate reality, it is also a mistake to believe that everything is mind. Because some Mind-Only realists or those who wear the clothes of non-Buddhists believe that way, one should not rely on that view. The statement in the Mind Section that "everything is mind" is not the same as your view. It is said because everything arises from the mind of enlightenment and appears as a play of its phenomena. By separately establishing phenomena, play, and the mind of enlightenment as three, the Dharmas are determined. The mind of enlightenment is not established anywhere, but it is the basis of everything, like the sky.

Alas! Its power is the uninterrupted way of appearing, like the clear surface of a mirror. The play is the appearance of various dharmas, like the eight similes of illusion. These three, from the perspective of emptiness, are not established anywhere, therefore they are non-dual. From the perspective of appearance, in terms of names, like awareness, sleep, and dreams, when one appears from another, from the rootless nature, they appear as the three: bodhicitta, power, and play. These, from the perspective of essence, transcend the dharmas of one and many. From the perspective of the way of appearing, they are said to be three names. When establishing names based on their essence, play and bodhicitta cannot become one. Therefore, relative to these plays, distinguish between appearance and the object of appearance. Because they do not exist internally or externally, know that the appearing images are like the eight similes of illusion. Even if they are established as dharmas and entities, it is believed to be the Great Perfection tradition, which perfects in the great clarity of non-existence, so it should be understood in this way. Knowing how to explain in this way, one can deal with vast, detailed, unmixed, and various classifications such as samsara and nirvana. Therefore, one abides on the extreme view that surpasses other schools. Now, only our school is good at explaining. Now, all the dharmas that arise from self-born wisdom abide in impartial great equality, and yogis see them as the empty form of non-existence and clarity, therefore praising the certainty of realization appearing in self-appearance: From the unchanging awareness of bodhi, Appears the phenomenal samsara and nirvana without abandonment or attainment. In the face of the yogi without grasping, The non-existent appearance is wonderful and laughable! Just as those who are familiar with illusionistic performances, because they know that they appear without existence, they find the appearance in emptiness laughable with the thought of clinging to reality. Similarly, just as abandonment and acceptance, good and bad, are not established, and appearance appears without interruption. Know that all the dharmas of samsara and nirvana are the play of non-existence and appearance, and the yogis who realize the equality of the essence of purity will not abide in the dharmas of samsara and nirvana, this is what is to be expressed. In the Lion's Complete Power it says: In the one awareness, samsara and nirvana are complete. Self-appearance without grasping, free from dharma. And as it says in the Jewel Box Sutra: Not the appearance and the object of appearance, Not non-appearance, all dharmas.
