Therefore, the object of aspiration and subsequent practice is bodhicitta, and when entering into meditative equipoise, the mind is generated as wisdom. As stated in the *Illusion Sutra*: "This is said to be the mind generated as wisdom." Emaho, wondrous and amazing Dharma! The secret treasury of all perfect Buddhas. Everything is born from the unborn, and having been born, it is unborn. Thus it is. Of the ten grounds, in the continuous end, the mind ceases, and from the generating ritual, even if the bodhicitta that is nearly attained is reversed, because it is divided into that powerful wisdom, it increases in the Buddha-ground, accomplishing the benefit with compassion, and is said to be the bodhicitta that has abandoned obscurations. That is, when the first wisdom of the Buddha arises after the moment of the continuous end of the ten grounds, because the mind and mental events cease, even though the bodhicitta generated by that, along with what is attained by the ritual, ceases, the wisdom that was previously generated as ultimate wisdom and the wisdom that established the power are not ceased, so by the power of that realm's freedom from obscurations, it becomes clear, and accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings is called the bodhicitta that has abandoned obscurations. As stated in the *Ornament of the Sutras*: "Bodhicitta in the grounds, aspiration and higher intention and, likewise, those who have abandoned obscurations, maturation is considered different." Thus it is. Just as a single stream of water changes its name at the mouth of each valley, so too, the single bodhicitta of aspiration and entry, at the time of accumulation and joining, is the bodhicitta arising from aspiration. From the first to the seventh ground, it is the bodhicitta of pure higher intention. In the three pure grounds, it is the bodhicitta of maturation. In the Buddha-ground, it is the bodhicitta that has abandoned obscurations. Also, in the Buddha-ground, although there is no bodhicitta arising from ritual and that is newly to be attained, there is the bodhicitta that accomplishes the benefit with great compassion without delay, and ultimate bodhicitta exists, because there is no abandonment, because emptiness exists, and because there is no cause for degeneration in the attainment of ultimate bodhicitta. Therefore, whether bodhicitta exists in the Buddha-ground should be known in this way. Why does it change its name in four stages? It is said that it is established from the perspective of parts. It is said: In accumulation and joining, the nature of that realm itself, because it is measured by aspiration in the manner of a general meaning, that bodhicitta

It is also said to arise from aspiration. From the first to the seventh bhūmi, because the obscurations of the dhātu are partially purified, it is said to be vast wisdom and pure intention. In the pure bhūmi, the five gates and the knowledge of the ālaya are completely purified, and because the aspiration and qualities are vast, it is called the mind of maturation. That buddha-bhūmi free from obscurations of the dhātu is called the mind of clearing away obscurations. Regarding the presence or absence of obscurations on the dhātu, there are four stages. That is, in the stages of accumulation and application, because the ālaya and the eight consciousnesses are accompanied by habitual tendencies, the dhātu is obscured like the sun and cannot be seen. Because one believes in the teachings, faith and aspiration are taken as the common object, and therefore it arises from aspiration. The Uttaratantra states: "The ultimate meaning of self-arising is to be realized only through faith." From the first to the seventh bhūmi, because the afflicted mind turns away, one sees hundreds of thousands of twelvefold buddha-fields and qualities, and the obscurations of that dhātu are partially purified, like the appearance of sunlight through the clouds. In the eighth bhūmi, because the mind-consciousness turns away, one obtains non-conceptual wisdom; in the ninth, because the five sense consciousnesses turn away, the buddha-field is purified; in the tenth, because the ālaya-consciousness turns away, one obtains mastery over the perfection of wisdom, and therefore it is called maturation. Finally, the habitual tendencies of mind and mental factors, together with the ālaya, turn away, and the wisdom of the buddha arises. Because there is no consciousness of samsara in the state of buddhahood, it is like the sun freed from all clouds, and all the qualities of that dhātu become manifest. The realm of the pure bodhisattvas is also beyond the scope of action. The Uttaratantra states: "The buddha-dhātu, the buddha-bodhi, the buddha-qualities, and the buddha-activities are not to be contemplated even by pure beings." Now, the method of generating bodhicitta is as follows: There are two ways to generate it. One takes it in the presence of the supreme guru and the Three Jewels. When taking it from the guru, the guru will explain the Dharma, including the preliminary seven-branch practice and taking refuge. The main part is to inform the buddhas, bodhisattvas, and the supreme guru, and then, like the buddhas and bodhisattvas of the past, generating the mind of bodhicitta and abiding in the precepts, I
