How should one take refuge? In the space in front, in the center adorned with lotus stems, sun, moon, and lions, visualize the root guru residing in the position of the named Vajradhara, surrounded by buddhas and bodhisattvas like dense clouds, and offer with actual and mentally created offerings, and perform prostrations, confess sins, and make requests. Oneself and all sentient beings, with palms joined together, pervading the surface of the earth and the limits of space, think of taking refuge in the guru and the Three Jewels, and express with pleasant words: After taking refuge, its benefit is that temporary wishes are fulfilled, It becomes the basis for the inner path and all Dharmas, Not harmed by harm, one is born at the feet of the Buddha, Ultimately, the Three Jewels of ultimate meaning are accomplished. Therefore, one should first take refuge. Accomplishing all desired things, Being included among the inner Buddhist practitioners, Becoming a basis for qualities. As stated in the "Seventy Verses on Refuge": "All vows are possessed, But those who have not taken refuge have none." And so on. Not harmed by the harm of humans and non-humans, Protecting from the view of the aggregates of destruction (the mistaken view of the union of the five aggregates) in samsara, and from the inferior path that tends towards one side of peace. As stated in the "Noble Banner Sutra": "To protect from all harm, And from the inferior vehicle of the aggregates of destruction, Therefore, refuge is said to be supreme." And so on. In all places where one is born, one is born at the feet of the noble guru and the Three Jewels, and ultimately attains Buddhahood. As stated in the same text: "Whoever takes refuge in the Three, That person quickly attains Buddhahood." And so on. The practice is to take refuge one hundred and eight times every day and night, having taken refuge in the guru, one respects the virtuous friend and does not associate with bad friends; having taken refuge in the Buddha, one does not prostrate to the gods of other religions, from Ishvara to worldly gods; having taken refuge in the Dharma, one does not harm sentient beings; having taken refuge in the Sangha, one does not associate with non-Buddhists or those who slander cause and effect. As stated in the same text: "Those who have taken refuge in the Buddha, At no time to other gods, Do they rely on or take refuge. Those who have taken refuge in the Dharma, Are separated from the mind of harm and injury. Those who have taken refuge in the Sangha, Do not associate with non-Buddhists

Do not do it. Thus it is said. Even if you see their body images, you should prostrate and make offerings with devotion, and do not do disrespectful things such as stepping over them. Generating the Mahayana Bodhicitta is: Then, generating the supreme Bodhicitta is to desire Buddhahood for the sake of others, which is the nature of both aspiration and engagement. The essence of the Mahayana Bodhicitta is: to desire to attain Buddhahood for the sake of others, as it is said in the Ornament for Clear Realization: "The generation of the mind is for the sake of others, to desire perfect and complete Buddhahood." Thus it is said. If divided, like preparing to go, desiring to attain Buddhahood is aspiration. Like actually going, pervading with effort is engagement, as it is said in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: "In brief, Bodhicitta should be known as having two aspects: the mind of aspiring for Bodhi and the mind of engaging in Bodhi. Just as the difference between wanting to go and actually going is known, so should the wise gradually understand the difference between these two." Thus it is said. Here, the difference between mind and mental factors is shown: Generating the mind also generates mental factors along the way. The mind is, by its own power, aware of the essence of things. Mental factors are, by their own power, aware of the distinctions of things. The mind is like a pillar, aware of the essence of things by its own power, while mental factors are aware of the distinctions of things, such as thickness and thinness, by their own power. As it is said in the Middle Beyond: "Therein, seeing the object is consciousness, its distinction is born from the mind." Thus it is said. Also, like the sun and its rays, mind and mental factors engage in the same way, therefore, generating the mind will also generate mental factors. It is meant that after generating the mind, it is not necessary to initially generate mental factors. Thinking about whether or not there is a way to generate based on the certainty of whether or not there is mind is: In the time of samsara, the actions and activities of mind and mental factors are constantly moving, therefore, because wisdom does not appear, the mind is generated, so that wisdom is very clear and the ability is placed on the meaning. Originally, it would be enough to generate non-conceptual wisdom, but why generate the mind with faults? It is true that in this place of samsara, that wisdom does not actually appear at all times, therefore, it is necessary to generate this mind that engages in conceptualization in everything, because by generating it, the ability is placed on wisdom, so there is no fault. In general
