Then, by practicing, one can attain Buddhahood. The second example is: Like a lamp inside a vase, though bright, it is obscured by the vase and cannot be seen outside. The Dharmakaya of the essence, though abiding within oneself, is completely invisible because it is obscured by the obscuring vase. Like the appearance when the vase is broken, when the grounds are free from whatever obscurations, they will make the lamp of the world appear everywhere. The lamp inside the vase is obscured by the vase, so it is not visible outside. Just as it appears when the vase is broken, the lamp of clear light is also within oneself, but it is obscured by the obscurations of the afflictions, grounds, and grounds, so it is not visible now. However, when the stains of the grounds are purified by the path, just like placing a lamp in the world, it dispels the darkness of beings. The teacher Nagarjuna said in the "Praise of the Dharmadhatu": Just as a lamp inside a vase is not visible anywhere outside, so too, this Dharmadhatu is not clear in samsara. When that vase is broken, everything appears everywhere. When the vajra of samadhi completely destroys all obscurations, then the ultimate limit of the sky is clear. So it is said. The third example is: Like the Sugata's body inside a lotus, it is not visible outside because it is wrapped by the lotus. Likewise, because the grasping and the grasped are obscured by a thousand petals, one cannot see the self-luminous Lord of the Conquerors. Just as the petals open and become clear, when one is freed from the petals of the deluded appearance of grasping and the grasped, the three bodies of enlightenment will appear within oneself. Just as the body is present inside the lotus, and it can be seen when the petals open, the self-born essence appears when all obscurations are freed. As it is said in the Uttaratantra: Just as the Sugata's Lord is inside the lotus, and a person with pure divine eyes sees it, just like taking it out from the bud of the water-born petals, its obscurations are completely purified. So it is said. Now, to summarize the meaning: Therefore, the Dharmadhatu, the ultimate clear light, please know that it is the reality that exists within oneself. There is no difference between sentient beings and Buddhas. With the Buddha's essence, it pervades without increase or decrease. Therefore, one should know that this nature of reality, which is the basis of self-liberation, exists. If such a view is taken as provisional, and emptiness is considered the ultimate reality free from elaboration, then those people will fall into the extreme of nihilism. If there is no basis for separation, then from what

Upon it are applied the terms awakening, expansion, liberation, and transcendence. The groundless is unfit to be the ground of anything, therefore, the ultimate truth, free from elaboration, is groundless. Therefore, this meaning is the definitive essence, and those who desire liberation should grasp it as the pinnacle of the ground and views to be realized. Now, to dispel confusion about terminology, the distinctions of names are shown: This has many names, being excellently expressed as 'Dhyings' because samsara and nirvana arise from it. Because it has existed from the beginning, it is called 'self-existing spontaneously'. Because it is obscured by impurities, it is called 'essence of the heart'. Because it is the way things are, it is called 'ultimate truth'. Because it is pure from the beginning, it is called 'radiant, stainless itself'. Dispelling the abode of the two extremes, it is the nature of the Middle Way. Because it transcends elaboration, it is the Perfection of Wisdom. Empty-clear, completely pure, truth indivisible, and because it is immutable, it is the suchness of dharmata. Thus, the wise who have eyes consider it. The definitive names for this spontaneously accomplished self-aware, self-arisen wisdom of Dhyings are: If realized, one transcends suffering, and if not realized, samsara arises, from the aspect of which it is called Dhyings, and it is called the essence of mind. As the Doha says: The single nature of mind is the seed of all, from which samsara and the passing beyond suffering flow. It bestows the fruit of desires, I prostrate to the mind like a wish-fulfilling jewel. Thus it is said. From the aspect of being naturally present, not compounded, it is called the self-existing spontaneously Buddha. Because all the qualities of the Buddha are fully present, it is called the Sugata-garbha. From the aspect of being obscured by impurities, it is called the alaya of meaning and the essence. Because it is the way things are, it is called the ultimate truth. Because it is pure from the beginning, it is called the radiant wisdom. Because it transcends the extremes of existence and non-existence, it is called the profound emptiness, the nature of the Middle Way. As the Abhisamayalankara says: That which is profound is freedom from the extremes of imputation and denial. In this way. Because it is liberated from the extremes of all elaboration, it is called the Perfection of Wisdom. From that itself: Not the near shore, not the far shore, not abiding between them, because of knowing the equality of all times, it is called the Perfection of Wisdom. Thus it is said. In the Mother Sutra: Blessed One
