The benefits are from the Jewel Lamp: Abandoning pride is the root of respect. Like a hand gathering virtuous roots, it is faith. The previous text also says: Diligently guarding the gates of the senses, taming one's own mind, and also protecting the minds of others. Thus, possessing both faith and diligence, constantly engaging in the Dharma, one will not fear falling into the lower realms in future lives. So it is said. The nature of pure faith is to have joy in the qualities of the superiors. Definition: Without the stain of deceit, the joy of faith remains clear and bright, hence it is pure. Classification: There are three types: pure faith arising from the virtue of conventional appearances, pure faith arising from the virtue of ultimate wisdom, and pure faith arising from the faith of equal union. Analogy: Just as a clear water jewel can purify muddy water, it purifies the misdeeds of the mind. Sign: The three doors of body, speech, and mind do not mix with sin, but delight in virtuous deeds. The benefits are from the Jewel Lamp: Faith generates great joy in the Dharma of the Victorious Ones. Faith is the symbol of a city of happiness and well-being. Faith accomplishes the deeds of qualities and wisdom. So it is said. The nature of confident faith is to have no doubt about the Dharmas of the ground, path, and fruit. Definition: Knowing that the words and meanings of the scriptures that explain its meaning are not deceptive, and then engaging in it, is confident faith. Classification: There are three types: having confident faith in samsara as something to be abandoned due to cause and effect, having confident faith in nirvana as something to be adopted due to cause and effect, and having confident faith unnecessarily in things that are not prophesied. Analogy: Just as one engages in farming with confidence in the autumn harvest, one engages in virtue with faith and understanding. As a sign that it has arisen in one's mindstream: having definite knowledge of confident faith in the teacher, lama, Buddha; the teaching, the sacred Dharma; the Great Vehicle and the Small Vehicle; and the two Sanghas, that is, having definite knowledge of confident faith in those objects of reliance. The benefits are from the Jewel Lamp: Faith makes the senses sharp and clear. With the power of faith, one is not overcome by others, and it is the basis for eliminating afflictions. So it is said. From the Bodhisattva Pitaka: Faith is the desire to hear the sacred Dharma, and to have faith in karma and its ripening, and to rely on it, making it pleasing. So it is said. The nature of the faith of definitely contemplating the profound Dharma is the definitive meaning.

It is wanting to understand the meaning of Dharmata. Having understood the meaning of that word, abiding in its realm. Classified, it is the three kinds of faith that arise with certainty when listening to, contemplating, and meditating on the scriptures that explain its meaning. The analogy is like finding gold in a stone and holding it, cherishing the true meaning. The sign is not separating from practice day and night. The benefits are as stated in the "Lamp of Jewels": "Through faith, one attains Buddhahood." And as stated in the "Moon Treasury Sutra": "The faith that arises with certainty towards the Three Jewels is like a wish-fulfilling jewel." Explaining the nature of those who have faith: The nature of faith is like good land, it is the basis of all dharmas, and it can increase the accumulation of merit. Faith is like a boat, it can cross the river of Samsara. Like a ferryman, it can protect from demons and afflictions. Like a mount, it can lead to the island of liberation. Like a king of jewels, it can accomplish all wishes. Like a hero, it can subdue sins. It is the supreme wealth of the holy ones who accumulate merit. Faith is like fertile land, it can make the sprout of Bodhi grow, as stated in the "Lamp of Jewels": "The unrotten seed is the cause of all virtues, through faith, the Bodhi tree grows, through faith, one also seeks self-born virtues." Like a ship on the ocean, through faith, one can cross the river of Samsara, as stated in the "Ten Dharmas Sutra": "By what does one guide those who seek liberation? Faith is the supreme vehicle, therefore, wise people should follow faith." Like a good ferryman, through faith, one can protect from the enemy of afflictions, as stated in the "Secret Inconceivable Sutra": "Those who have faith are born in the presence of the Buddhas, and diligently seek all good dharmas, not caring for family, wife, children, etc., and not enjoying play even in youth, they renounce with faith, rely on a virtuous friend, listen to the Dharma and practice with a virtuous mind, taking diligence as the essence, and not treating words lightly. They strive to hear much, and do not covet worldly things, but compassionately explain to others the Dharma they have heard. Faith is like a good mount, it can lead to the island of liberation.
