Like not eating the meat of a cow struck by lightning, one should abandon it. Like a person full of good food not wanting inferior food, one should abandon it. Like a Chakravartin king not encountering people of inferior lineage, one should abandon it. Like a pure Bhikshu not touching a decaying corpse, one should abandon it. Thus it is said. Admonishing not to focus the mind on worldly affairs, but to strive in the Dharma: This life's livelihood, friends and consultations, Enjoyment, bias and evil sects, Because wasting leisure and fortune is a great loss, therefore abandon them. No matter what worldly things are done, there is no great benefit for future lives, only sinking into the mire of Samsara, having decided this, one should strive in the Dharma. Among them, farming has no long-term meaning, it is the livelihood of fields; friendship has no long-term meaning, it is spouses and relatives; enjoyment has no long-term meaning, it is the management of food and wealth; consultation has no long-term meaning, it is the art of worldly fame; strife has no long-term meaning, it is the bias of enemies and friends; sects have no long-term meaning, it is the clinging to views, all these should be abandoned. Do not let leisure and fortune be wasted, but strive from the depths of the heart in the supreme Dharma. Moreover, living in a lay household is full of busyness, and is the root of falling away from the Dharma, therefore long-term meaning cannot be achieved. First, in a worldly family, there is bias towards enemies and friends, management of children and household, worries about taxes and oppression, early and late toil for food and clothing, no matter what is done, it cannot be satisfied, no matter what happens, it is not smooth, no matter how it is done, it cannot please people, even if working hard day and night, there is always unfinished business, the mind rarely thinks of the Dharma, what is done is mostly mixed with sin, this is a great root. There is a strong fire of love and hate between neighbors, children are the ropes of karmic debt, the strength is strong, no matter what is done, it will increase suffering, the burden is heavy, because it is unbearable for others to be happier than oneself, there are countless such situations, therefore it is far from the Dharma. In the Sutra Requested by Bodhisattva Lion's Roar, it says: In the home, afflictions arise, which destroy all white dharmas. Thus it is said. Living in a lay household as a renunciant is also the nature of suffering, it is abandoning the small home and entering the big home, managing business and agriculture,

Like slaves of livestock, busy with the increase of wealth, anxiety about old age and approaching death, discussions about relationships with relatives and friends, attachment to the desire for sensual pleasures, the pursuit of happiness in food, drink, and enjoyment, the affairs of dwellings and city construction, the distraction of endless busyness, the environment of day and night filled with love and hate, the burden of concern for superiors and subordinates, and the perception of being immersed in worldly desires. False Dharma of hearing and thinking, the fire of hatred, competition, and jealousy, the thorns that always prick, all actions are for the sake of this life, always filled with anxious expectations, the bond of lack of faith between teacher and student, the jealousy of competition among friends and brothers, the mountain of the strongest eight worldly concerns, the weakest is the behavior of lacking hearing and thinking. Because the faults of confusing Dharma and one's own mind are very numerous, it is very difficult to attain the supreme Dharma of liberation. The Vinaya Sutra says, "Giving up small and large household affairs, it is difficult to initially renounce." It also says, "Some who have renounced have not become vessels of merit, they have shaved their hair and beards, but have not entered the ranks of the Shramanas, such renunciation is not true renunciation, nor is it that of a householder, like a well without water, like a butter lamp in a painting." The previous sutra also says, "Those who dwell in a house, because of desire, will die without satisfaction." Therefore, to practice the Dharma properly, it is very important to turn away from worldly appearances. Holding on with mindfulness and awareness, urging oneself without distraction: One should always be mindful and aware, maintaining diligence, contemplating the leisure and endowments, thereby accomplishing the Bodhi of liberation. Having thus obtained the rare leisure and endowments, if one does not seize the path of liberation this time, it is worse than going to the Isle of Gold and returning empty-handed, so one should practice a profound Dharma, and in any case, seize the path of liberation. In all six times of walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, for familiar objects, one should grasp with unforgetting mindfulness, and for meaningful and meaningless actions, one should grasp with discerning awareness, not allowing the six consciousnesses to be distracted by external objects, one should urge oneself. For example, if one does not cross the river when there is a boat, then one will not be able to cross it later, so how will one cross it then? Similarly, one must strive when one has obtained the boat of leisure and endowments. The Bodhicharyavatara says, "This boat is difficult to obtain again, fools, do not sleep at this time." Similarly, when one has the excellent horse of intelligence, one must travel a long road.
