It is the nature of the earth to be covered, and relying on an evil friend also leads to the same faults, resulting in immeasurable sins. In short, whether it is a teacher, a lama, or a friend, whatever the nature of the person, if they have little pure perception, a bad self-continuum, are full of bias, hold their own views and religion as supreme, slander others, praise themselves, speak disparagingly and abandon other religions, and slander those lamas and virtuous friends who bear the burden of benefiting others, then associating with such people, one will also unknowingly be infected with their faults by being with them, being close to them, and relying on them. At first, we may think that these people are unfair and have shortcomings, but before long, their numerous words will change our minds, causing us to trust them, and thus generate faults such as little pure perception, without any doubt. Therefore, from the beginning, one should not rely on or be close to teachers and friends who increase sin. The *Middle Length Perfection of Wisdom Sutra* says, "If a virtuous man falls into the hands of evil friends, then all aspects of virtue will decline." and so on. Other faults include: being greedy for wealth, shooting the poisonous arrows of attachment and hatred, being bound by this life, turning one's back on the path of liberation, decreasing virtuous deeds, and increasing non-virtuous deeds. If one relies on those who are greedy for wealth due to attachment to desires, who are coarse with the five poisons, leading to great attachment, hatred, and cruelty, who are attached to samsara, leading to diligence in the affairs of this life, who are controlled by demons and afflictions, leading to turning one's back on the path of liberation, and who have strong grasping and afflictions, leading to a decrease in virtuous deeds and an increase in non-virtuous deeds, the situation will become even worse. The *Vinaya Sutra* says, "A rotten fish placed in front of a person, tightly wrapped with kusha grass, before long, the kusha grass will also become rotten in the same way. Similarly, by relying on evil friends, everything will become the same." As it is said. Types: Furthermore, one will be infected with the habits of whatever kind of person one associates with. By relying on foolish people, the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and meditating will decline; from those with strong hatred, one will be infected with bad habits; from those with strong desire, the attachment to worldly things will increase; from those with strong arrogance, one will be infected with bias and dualistic grasping.

Jealousy is a strong source of competition and suffering. Associating with others, all bad habits are transmitted. It is natural that the behavior of anyone is easily imitated. Associating with a teacher or friend who is very ignorant will lead to the bad habit of diminishing wisdom through hearing and contemplation. Associating with someone who is very hateful will lead to the bad habit of being violent and cruel. Associating with someone who is very attached will lead to the bad habit of craving worldly things. Associating with someone who seeks food will lead to the bad habit of seeking food and drink. Associating with someone who is miserly will lead to the bad habit of stinginess and suffering. Associating with someone who is frivolous and flighty will lead to the bad habit of being obsessed with women and coquetry. Associating with someone who is very arrogant will lead to the bad habit of being biased and dualistic. Associating with someone who is very jealous will lead to the bad habit of competition and anger. Associating with someone who is very stingy will lead to the bad habit of hoarding and attachment. Associating with someone who has all six afflictions strongly will lead to the transmission of all bad habits, and therefore is known as the root of evil. The five poisons plus stinginess are the six root afflictions. From the perspective of mindfulness, attachment, hatred, and ignorance are all the root of evil friends. This is like a poisonous tree, with great harm. Furthermore, associating with those who have no renunciation from samsara also has the following faults: Those without renunciation, who only seek happiness in this life, Those who are good at planning, and those who are playful and frivolous, Those who are powerful and greedy for wealth, and those who pursue profit, Associating with those who engage in these behaviors, Their bad conduct will also be transmitted. Associating with worldly householders will lead to the bad habit of farming and hoarding. Associating with ministers and important figures will lead to the bad habit of bad plans and thoughts. Associating with young pleasure-seekers will lead to the bad habit of song, dance, and base behavior. Associating with those who pursue profit and wealth will lead to the bad habit of seeking food and wealth. Associating with powerful and arrogant kings will lead to the bad habit of arrogance and pride. Associating with thieves and those who fight will lead to the bad habit of hatred, beating, and killing, so they should be avoided. In the Sutra of the Essence of the Earth, it says: The wise ones make aspirations for kings, ministers, and important figures
