Without examining with the wisdom of hearing, contemplation, and meditation, they boast of understanding all defiled dharmas, teaching others without relying on scriptural authority. Towards wise individuals who have perfected their wisdom through hearing, contemplation, and meditation, they not only do not seek advice but also maliciously slander them out of jealousy, contemptuously calling them worldly people. Know that this arises from the flourishing of demonic forces that obstruct liberation. The "Noble Immaculate Moon Sutra" states: In the future, there will be many arrogant monks who disguise themselves as upholders of the Dharma. At that time, they will mix together the dharmas they have corrupted themselves, proclaiming it to be the supreme Dharma, not prostrating to other Dharma speakers, not respectfully seeking advice, and always rebuking with an angry mind. Those foolish individuals, due to this cause, will fall into evil realms, evil paths, and wrong paths after death. Now, to conclude, advising people to abandon evil friends: Here, one should observe and abandon evil friends. The benefits of abandoning them are immeasurable: one will not fall into wrong paths, virtuous deeds will constantly increase, one will be praised by the noble ones, and one will perfectly accomplish all merits. In order to seek liberation, abandoning evil friends through careful observation has immeasurable benefits. The "Noble Jewel Cloud Sutra" states: Abandoning evil friends, one will not fall into evil realms, evil paths, and wrong paths. One's virtuous deeds will also increase, one will be praised by all Buddhas, and one will obtain inexhaustible merits. Other benefits include: memory, concentration, and wisdom will be vast, this life will be happy and the next life will be good, one will be able to smoothly walk on the banks of the heavenly Ganges, and one will see pure lands filled with the wealth of Bodhisattvas. Those who abandon evil friends, through the power of increasing virtuous deeds, will be able to accomplish the memory of thinking about the Dharma, the concentration of focusing on one point, and the wisdom of liberation, thereby creating the great path to liberation. In this life, one will also be long-lived, wealthy, healthy, radiant, pleasing to see, loved by all among gods and humans, praised, and all wishes will be fulfilled merely by thinking, and one will adorn oneself with actions that benefit oneself and others.

May all be well. In the future, may one attain the supreme of excellent Dharmas, and accomplish a body adorned with the wealth surpassing gods and humans. That which surpasses the ordinary heavens of beings is the pure land such as Sukhavati. Its name is poetically expressed as the heavenly Ganges riverbank, where one goes to take birth, sees Buddhas and Bodhisattvas abiding on the ground, and enjoys lotuses, wish-fulfilling trees, bathing ponds, jeweled earth, and various jewel houses, which is called being filled with wealth. Surely, by the blessings of the ground, path, dharanis, and samadhi, one attains enlightenment. Therefore, those who desire liberation should diligently abandon evil friends and companions, and not even walk together for a moment, not speak, and not associate with them. As it is said in the Mindfulness Sutra: "Do not associate with evil friends even for a moment, do not speak a word, and do not walk together on the road." Also, in the liberation of Sadaprarudita, it is said: "You should abandon evil friends." And in the Sutra of Ksitigarbha's Essence, it is said: "Evil friends are like a cliff, a bird's nest, or a blazing fire, and should be abandoned." This indicates that those who disrespect their own lama and proclaim evil should also be recognized as evil friends and companions, and one should not even walk or associate with them on the same path. As it is said in the Vinaya: "One should not associate with those who harbor malice towards them." In any case, when one must stay in the same place, one should not trust them, not speak carelessly, not be respectful, abide in the unspoken deity, and not rejoice in their words, for if one does, one will break one's vows and be seized by evil friends. When abandoning them, it should not be out of hatred, but with compassion: "This is an evil friend, how pitiful. May they not seize me and others. Whenever I have the ability, may I alone lead them from the evil path and place them on the good path." Thinking in this way, one should thoroughly abandon them with the intention of abandoning association. As it is said in the Sutra of the Noble Jewel Cloud

Sa. One should completely abandon sinful friends. That is, one should abandon those who have broken their vows, broken their rituals, enjoy commotion, are lazy, enjoy samsara, turn their backs on bodhichitta, and both householders and those who rely on them. When completely abandoning them, one should not generate hatred, anger, or contempt towards them. Otherwise, one should keep the mind of completely abandoning reliance close at hand. In this way, if one abandons sinful friends, as well as lamas, preceptors, and abbots who are associated with sin, in order to achieve liberation, all virtuous dharmas will be naturally accomplished. One should not rely on or attach one's mind to the side that should be abandoned. Since these certainties are spoken of in many sutras and tantras, those who desire liberation should abandon sinful companions as stated, and respectfully rely on noble spiritual friends. As it is said in the Sutra of the Wise and the Foolish: Relying on virtuous spiritual friends increases goodness; relying on sinful friends increases evil. For example, wind originally has no smell, but when it comes from a sandalwood forest, it has a fragrant smell; when it comes from an unclean place, it has a foul smell. The Great Vehicle's instruction manual, the Treatise of the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Mine, concludes the extensive commentary on the ninth chapter, Abandoning Sinful Friends. Ninth Chapter, Commentary on the Chapter of Abandoning Sinful Friends.
