whirls. The remnants previously washed away by water are scattered in all directions by the wind. Below the third dhyana, those parts that have disintegrated to the point of having no atomic particles whirl invisibly in the same space, remaining in a state of emptiness where nothing can be seen. In this way, destruction also occurs with fire destroying seven times in succession, followed by water destroying once, and finally wind scattering once. As stated in the Abhidharmakosha, "Fire seven times, water once, and finally wind scatters." Because of this. Below the first dhyana, during the seven destructions by fire, the second dhyana is not destroyed. When the second dhyana is destroyed by water, the third dhyana is not destroyed. When the third dhyana is destroyed by wind, the fourth dhyana is not destroyed. This is determined by the strength of the dhyana. Among these, the peak of destruction by fire is the second dhyana, and below it, there is no harm above burning. The peak of destruction by water is the third dhyana, and below it, it is washed away. The peak of destruction by wind is the fourth dhyana, and below it, it is scattered. Whichever is the peak, the fire, water, and wind that have reached that peak do not cause harm. According to the law of natural destruction, if the highest is taken as the peak, then the peak of fire is the first dhyana, the peak of water is the second dhyana, and the peak of wind is the third dhyana. Even if that peak is reached, it will not collapse due to harm, so it is considered to be a firm, solid, and best peak. To establish the reasons or justifications for destruction and non-destruction, that is, in the third dhyana, in order, investigation and analysis are like fire, joy and happiness are like water, and the inhalation and exhalation of breath are like wind. The three faults correspond to this, so they are destroyed by the three elements. Below the first dhyana, there are investigation and analysis, and the feelings of mind and mental factors are like fire, so the corresponding element is destroyed by fire. In the second dhyana, there is the joy and happiness of dhyana, like a stream of nectar, so it is destroyed by water. In the third dhyana, there is the movement of inhalation and exhalation, like wind, so it is destroyed by wind. However, this is not like the coarse wind of the desire realm, because there is no coarse body and veins. Therefore, dhyana itself is pure. However, the elemental particles born from the ripening.

Because there is a share obtained from pure clarity, there is a corresponding flow of breath. Similarly, whether yogis are harmed or not harmed by enemies depends on whether these meditations are accomplished or not. Since this is the case, nowadays, with the thoughts of mind and mental events not ceased, still existing separately, feeling pleasure and displeasure, and the flow of breath impure, wanting to abide in the state of the Buddha's intention, if even worldly meditation is not accomplished, how can one expect to accomplish transcendental meditation?

Just as those gods transmigrate between joy and great fruition, those who practice the ten virtues well abandon their bodies, and their consciousnesses are born among the thirty-three gods, so it is said. Although the fourth dhyana does not have the harm of the common appearance at the end of a kalpa, because of the transference of each individual's karma, each individual is certain to perish, therefore it is not permanent. In short, from the beginning of destruction to the final disintegration, there are twenty intermediate kalpas. The fourth meaning is to determine the empty kalpa: Thus, after disintegration, there is emptiness, in a state of one flavor of space, equal to the duration of twenty intermediate kalpas. Then it begins to form again. Thus, after disintegration, it remains in a state of emptiness for the duration of twenty intermediate kalpas. At the time of the empty kalpa, everything remains in the nature of one flavor of space, which is to abide in the realm of conditioned and unconditioned phenomena, a symbol of the dissolution of the form body into the realm of the dharmakaya. Again, after that, particles gather, and the formation of a world begins. After the empty kalpa of this Saha world, there are sixty dark kalpas, and sixty formations, abidings, destructions, and emptinesses occur. After that, in kalpas like stars, countless Buddhas appear in the world, and so on. In the sky of this place, countless inconceivable worlds have appeared in the past, and in the future, there will be kalpas of formation, abiding, destruction, and emptiness, and countless immeasurable worlds. Just as this world is, so are the other ten directions. Thus, the times of the four kalpas of formation, abiding, destruction, and emptiness are equal, each being twenty intermediate kalpas, and the total of eighty is called one great kalpa. In this way, one can measure the kalpas of the past and future, and measure the accumulation of countless kalpas of merit for the appearance of Buddhas, and so on. Now is the conclusion, exhorting us to quickly liberate ourselves from this existence: Just as it was said before, even this world of perfect appearance has times when it is unstable and disintegrates, so abandon the nature of attachment to samsara and seek the peace and happiness of liberation.
