Thus, the activities of the Buddhas arise naturally without effort; such teachings are universally present. Secondly, regarding the continuous nature of activities, as stated in the same text: 'Just as in the sky, worldly activities are continuous and unceasing, so too in the uncontaminated realm, the activities of the Buddhas are continuous.' Thirdly, to ascertain this through examples, there are two parts: the nature of the nine examples and the necessity of teaching them. Firstly, as stated in the 'Ratnagotravibhāga': 'Indra, drum, cloud, Brahma, sun, jewel, like a precious gem, thus the Tathāgata, like sound and reflection, like space and earth.' The Tathāgata displays various manifestations of the body, like Indra who, without moving from his heavenly abode, appears as a reflection in the human realm, encouraging beings to engage in virtuous actions; the Tathāgata teaches various Dharma doors, like the great drum of the gods which, by teaching the four seals of Dharma, benefits the gods; the Tathāgata's wisdom and compassion pervade all, like clouds pervading the sky, causing crops to ripen with rain; the Tathāgata manifests emanations of body and speech, like Brahma who, without moving from his own place, is seen by the desire gods, thus fulfilling their purpose; the Tathāgata dispels the ignorance of those to be tamed with the wisdom of knowledge, like the rays of the sun dispelling darkness; the Tathāgata performs the welfare of others with compassion, like a wish-fulfilling jewel from which desires arise; the Tathāgata's speech performs the welfare of beings, like an echo which, though not truly existent, demonstrates various functions; the Tathāgata's body performs the welfare of others, like space which pervades all forms but has no form itself; the Tathāgata's compassion accomplishes the welfare of others, like the earth which supports all and benefits all. The second part is divided into dispelling the doubts of those to be tamed and entering the realm of profound activity. Firstly, as stated in the 'Ratnagotravibhāga': 'Since no one in this world has seen actions performed without effort, in order to dispel the doubts of those to be tamed, these nine examples are taught.' Since worldly people have never seen anyone performing actions without effort, these examples are taught to dispel doubts about such a way of being. Secondly, as stated in the same text: 'Wherever these nine examples are extensively taught and explained, the very name of the Sutra Pitaka indicates its purpose, which is to reveal the appearance of wisdom arising from hearing.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Adorned with vast light, the wise will quickly attain enlightenment and enter all the realms of the Buddhas.' This is from the sutra section 'Adornment of the Light of Wisdom Entering All the Realms of the Buddhas,' where the nine similes illustrating the spontaneously accomplished and continuous activity of the Tathagatas are extensively explained. The explanatory sutra demonstrates the necessity of the meaning of the sutra through its name. The principle of such sutra meaning is that the vast light of wisdom, arising from hearing and contemplating, which knows things as they are, well adorns the wise Bodhisattvas, who will quickly enter all the qualities of the Buddhas' realms, i.e., the three secrets of body, speech, and mind. Thus it is said. Thus, the brief establishment of the tenets of various schools is completed. Verses: A treasure that gives rise to limitless Dharma doors, Whose qualities of abandonment and realization have surpassed the expanse of space, Lord of vast compassion and immeasurable wisdom, The Sugata King, the all-seeing Sage of the Shakyas. From the glorious throat of that one, the voice of Brahma, In accordance with the dispositions and faculties of various beings, The Dharma door of words on emptiness and dependent arising, The fame of its opening spreads throughout this world. From that, the three turnings of the Dharma wheel, which appear commonly, The first turning directly reveals the tenets of the Sarvastivada school, The intermediate turning directly reveals the system of the Mind-Only school, The subject to be taught in the final turning has two aspects: general and specific. Of these, the first is the reasoning of the Mind-Only school, The second is the excellent system of the definitive meaning Madhyamaka. This system is well-known throughout India and Tibet, Who among impartial and wise people would not trust it? Therefore, the first turning explains the nature of the four noble truths, The intermediate turning explains emptiness without characteristics, The final turning explains the ultimate nature of reality. Therefore, the ultimate nature is taught by the final turning. To clarify the method of clearly explaining this principle as it is, A brief summary of the seeds of the explanations of inner and outer schools. To help beginners grasp the tenets when first learning the philosophical systems, I have gathered a small portion from the words of the holy ones. Especially for those who have great interest in the Buddha's teachings, And who diligently devote themselves to pure monasticism, To clarify things in the minds of young monks, I have made this a foundation. Therefore, relying on this treatise, may wisdom arise, To individually analyze and discern the various philosophical systems, May it dispel the ignorance in the minds of kind Dharma friends, And may it eliminate all defilements. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
