For example, animals are like smoke, humans are like gold, and gods are like white linen. It is said that these appearances will appear to beings similar to their own kind. The *Compendium of Topics* states: 'For those who commit unwholesome deeds, the state of existence in the intermediate state manifests as something like black smoke or a dark night. For those who have done good deeds, it is like white linen illuminating the night with moonlight.' Therefore, those who have committed great unwholesome deeds in the past will see their own bodies and the external world as black smoke or a dark night devoid of the light of the sun, moon, and stars. Those who have done good deeds will see themselves and the external world as white linen or a night filled with moonlight. What do they live on? The *Treasury of Knowledge* says, 'They are nourished by odors.' Therefore, they do not enjoy other food, but only enjoy good or bad smells according to their power. The lamas say that if other food is offered through pure rituals, they can also enjoy it. Once such a form is established, the *Treasury of Knowledge* says, 'It does not revert to another state,' which refers to the absence of conditions for change. The *Compendium of Topics* says, 'What if it changes? Therefore, existence also depends on karma, etc.' Furthermore, in the *King's Admonition Sutra*, the Blessed One said: 'Great King, when a being passes away, according to the ripening of the karma they have accumulated, whatever realm they are born into, if their relatives perform various virtuous deeds that are not mixed with negativity, they can also be born in higher realms or attain liberation.' Therefore, if the relatives of the deceased perform powerful virtuous deeds that are not mixed with sin, and rely on the power of a virtuous spiritual friend through pure rituals, even if they are destined to be born in a lower realm, they can be transformed and born in a higher realm. If they are destined to be born in a higher realm, they can be transformed and born in a pure land, taste the nectar of the sacred Dharma from the Buddhas of the ten directions, and ultimately attain the state of omniscience. Therefore, relatives should strive to perform virtuous deeds that are not mixed with sin. You yourself must also be mindful, because due to the habitual tendencies of the three poisons from the past, you may accumulate negativity at this time, so it is important to maintain mindfulness. Therefore, recognize the intermediate state through forms and other means, and understand the differences in the forms of the six realms, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the attachment to the formation of existence, generate a strong desire to rejoice in the qualities of the noble ones. Fifth, as stated in the *Abhidharmakośa*: 'Sees its kind with pure divine eye.' And in the *Compendium of Topics*: 'Sentient beings with equal karma are also seen.' Therefore, in the bardo, one sees oneself, those of the same kind, and sentient beings with whom one has previously accumulated virtuous and non-virtuous karma together, who share equal karma, as if in a dream, and accompanies them, through the clear manifestation of the divine eye that arises from cultivating purity, free from the eleven faults such as doubt and non-attention. Therefore, also recognize the bardo by observing the ways in which self and others see each other. From now on, whatever you see before your eyes, do not be swayed by attachment or aversion based on it. Sixth, as stated in the *Abhidharmakośa*: 'Possesses the power of karmic miraculous abilities.' And in the *Compendium of Topics*: 'There is no obstruction to going.' And in the *Mindfulness Sutra*: 'Like the movement of a tiny dust particle, there is no obstruction. Even if one were to go through the inside of Mount Meru, one's self would not be obstructed by Mount Meru, so what need is there to mention other mountains?' And as stated in the *Abhidharmakośa Commentary*: 'Therefore, even the Buddhas do not try to stop it, because it possesses the power of karma.' Due to the power of miraculous abilities generated by the karma of previous lives, one is able to go to any place one desires in an instant. Even the Buddhas cannot stop this power of karma, so there is no obstruction to anything, such as Mount Meru. However, the *Abhidharmakośa Commentary* states: 'The intermediate existence only enters the womb.' And the *Compendium of Topics* states: 'There is obstruction at the place of birth.' Therefore, one cannot enter the mother's womb, and once one has entered the womb, the abdomen will be obstructed, and one cannot pass through, so there will be obstruction at the place of taking birth. Similarly, there will be obstruction at the other three places of birth. Lamas say that there is even obstruction at the Vajra Throne. In any case, also recognize the bardo by examining the way your body moves. Whenever the thought arises to go to any of the six realms, generate a sense of weariness and aversion towards it, and generate a strong desire to go to a pure land. Seventh, as stated in the *Great Nirvana Sutra*: 'In the past, when the Buddha Dipamkara appeared, the son of King Light Adornment, after his death, remained in the bardo for three years.' Following this, the venerable monks, etc. Bardo --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
