If one is born as a mute, since the faculty of mind is not suitable as a vessel, there is no place to practice Dharma. Therefore, since I am not born in those eight states now, it is called having leisure. One should strive to practice Dharma! That is, one should take refuge and generate Bodhicitta. One should repeatedly contemplate the nature of obtaining leisure that is free from the eight unfree states and the opposite of them, thinking only of practicing Dharma. Afterwards, dedicate the merit and apply such contemplation to all activities. First Step of the Guidance. Then, contemplating the special endowments: If one does not obtain a human body, one cannot practice Dharma. Since one is born as a human, one is endowed. Even if one is born in a place where there is no Dharma, one cannot practice Dharma. Since the Dharma is flourishing, being born in the central land of meaning, one is endowed. If one's senses are incomplete, one cannot practice Dharma. Since the doors of the senses are complete, one is endowed. If one's actions are reversed and one always engages in non-virtue, one cannot practice Dharma. Since one's actions are not reversed and one is inclined towards virtue, one is endowed. If one does not have faith in the teachings, one cannot practice Dharma. Since one has faith in the Buddha's teachings, one is endowed, thus completing the five endowments. If the Buddha had not appeared in the world, there would be no eye of Dharma. Since the Buddha has now appeared, the perfect endowments of others are also complete. Even if the Buddha appeared but did not teach the Dharma, it would be useless. Since the wheel of Dharma has been turned three times, the perfect endowments of others are also complete. Even if the Dharma is taught but the teachings do not remain, it would be useless. Since the teachings are still present and have not yet declined, the perfect endowments of others are also complete. Even if the teachings remain but one does not enter them, it would be useless. Since one has entered the teachings, the endowments of others are complete. Even if one has entered, without a virtuous spiritual friend who provides favorable conditions, one would not know what to accept and reject. Since there is a truly loving virtuous spiritual friend who cherishes one with great compassion, the five perfect endowments of others are also complete. Now, at this time when the ten perfections are fully present, one should sincerely think of making this leisure and endowment meaningful. That is, the preliminary practice is taking refuge and generating Bodhicitta, the main practice is contemplating the reasons for the endowments, and the concluding practice is dedication and integrating activities into yoga. Second Step of the Guidance. Then, contemplating the precipice of the lower realms: Now that leisure has been obtained

If one does not practice the supreme Dharma with the support of the leisure and endowment body, then due to the influence of karma, after death, when one is born in the three lower realms, one will not even hear the sound (of the Dharma). One will also not meet virtuous friends. One will also not know the difference between virtue and vice. Everything one does is only evil, there is no good. One is always thinking that in samsara, this samsara is so terrible, so one should practice in this way with the three stages of preparation, main practice, and conclusion. Third Section of the Instructions. Then, contemplate the example of how difficult it is to obtain: On the great ocean stirred by the wind, there is a yoke with a single hole. It is constantly carried away by the waves, and under the water there is a blind turtle that comes to the surface once every hundred years. When these two meet, and the turtle's neck happens to fit into the hole of the yoke, it is more difficult than obtaining a human body from the lower realms. Just like throwing a handful of peas at a smooth wall, it is difficult for even one to stick, so contemplate the difficulty of obtaining a human body, and practice with the complete three stages of preparation, main practice, and conclusion. Fourth Section of the Instructions. Next, contemplate the differences in the order: In general, if one contemplates the order and number of sentient beings alone, then the opportunity to obtain a human body is like a star. Even among humans, if one contemplates those who have no Dharma and always engage in evil, then the opportunity to be interested in the Dharma and hear the Dharma is like a star. Among those, if one contemplates truly entering the gate of the Dharma from the heart and practicing, the opportunity is also like a star. To be able to meet a true lama, to hear the profound Dharma, to be able to study the path of liberation, one should strive to obtain such a precious human body, so practice with the complete three stages of preparation, main practice, and conclusion. Fifth Section of the Instructions. Then, contemplate meaningless waste: Just like going to a treasure island and returning empty-handed, just like going to the ocean and gaining nothing. Now, having gone to the island of the precious human body, but not taking away any treasures of the supreme Dharma, not grasping the path of liberation, if one is distracted by the affairs of this life, even if one obtains the precious human body, it is considered to have returned empty-handed, so practice with the complete three stages of preparation, main practice, and conclusion, this is the contemplation of leisure and endowment. Sixth Section of the Instructions. Then, contemplate the causes, conditions, and interdependence: Practicing the Dharma depends on the mind, and the mind depends on the body with leisure and endowment. It is also difficult to gather favorable conditions, to be without illness, without the torment of suffering, not subject to other's
