Whatever appears, appears as its own nature, abiding in the essence of what it is. Abiding in the variegated, it appears in various distinct forms. Abiding in the purity from the beginning, it appears without any defilement whatsoever. All of this appears as the sequence of the mind, its own nature being pure from the beginning. So it is said. Showing it in seven ways like this is also measuring the meaning of one awareness. Even if examined separately, the nature of awareness is not established in any way through words, letters, or expressions of desire. Therefore, clinging to the assertion that "this alone is it" is not desirable here. However, if similarities are not pointed out, it cannot be understood, so let me say something for the time being. Regarding this, considering it from the perspective of two types of individuals, there are those who follow the established tenets and those who follow the path. Those who follow the established tenets show the six bases as flawed, which is clinging to one side and falling into the view of clinging to extremes, like six blind men groping an elephant with their hands and measuring its shape and color. Those who follow the path consider original purity, without flaws, as their own doctrine, like someone with eyes measuring the nature of an elephant. All of this appears as the sequence of the mind, its own nature being pure from the beginning. So it is said. First, to explain briefly the characteristics of the six bases abiding in a flawed state, among the six, first, expressing the assertion that the base is spontaneously accomplished, and then refuting it. The meaning of refutation includes summarizing and three aspects, the first being: The state of spontaneous accomplishment is not cut off from India (place name), nor does it fall to any side. All qualities are the nature of abiding as spontaneously accomplished from the beginning. The refutation is: If all qualities are spontaneously accomplished, then the result of sudden freedom from defilement should also be spontaneously accomplished from the very beginning, because all qualities are already spontaneously accomplished from the beginning. If you assert this, then no one could possibly be deluded from that base, and this delusion should not be eliminated, and it would follow that the result exists in the cause. If everything is spontaneously accomplished, then samsara would also become spontaneously accomplished, so it would not be possible to be liberated, and it would follow that cause and effect are different and not spontaneously accomplished. As it says in the Sixth Space: Spontaneously accomplished various bases, are not the true base itself. If it were so, it would become like this, in this way sentient beings through effort, would not become liberated, because they are stained by ignorance.

Furthermore, if it is said that liberation comes from having awareness, then the result would not change into liberation. For example, just as black coal cannot be turned white no matter how much it is scrubbed, since the cause and result are different, it is not spontaneously accomplished. "Thus it is said." The meaning of the refutation is summarized as follows: Here, it is not accepted in that way, because the essence is pure from the beginning, so there is no establishment of samsara. The nature is completely pure, so there is no establishment of nirvana. Because it is non-dual, beyond thought and expression, it abides in the nature of being free from faults from the beginning. This only symbolically represents the spontaneously accomplished plan, but it is not its own characteristic. Again, in that very text, it says: That basis that abides in such a way is the nature that symbolizes spontaneous accomplishment. "Thus it is said." Secondly, regarding the view that the basis is indeterminate, there are also three aspects. The expression of the assertion is: Since the essence is nothing at all, the nature is not determined as one, but it appears merely as whatever is imputed by the mind. The refutation of that is: If it is imputed by the mind, then when the basis is imputed as samsara, it cannot be nirvana, and when it is one, it should not be many. Moreover, since the mutual determination is confused, it would entail the interchange of confusion and liberation. If there is no determination, it would entail reversing from liberation to confusion, and that which is not liberated would entail being already liberated at that very time. Moreover, the interchange of non-determination and determination would entail confusion, and if it is not determined, it cannot be a basis, because it has the fault of not being able to grasp the ground. Again, in that very text, it says: The basis of indeterminacy that is spoken of, this also cannot be established as a basis. I think in this way. "Is the result alternating? Or does it have the nature of reversal? The indeterminate becomes determinate, and the determinate also becomes indeterminate. "Since one's own indeterminacy exists on its own, if it is determinate, it is like the end of karma. "Thus it is said. The meaning is summarized as follows: Here, it is not accepted in that way, because there is no distinction made between name and meaning, so it is determined that the nature of phenomena, which is unborn from the beginning, has no arising, ceasing, or abiding. Therefore, it is believed that the nature of phenomena is like the sky, and there is no determination that can be clung to. Thirdly, regarding the view that the determined basis is the actual entity of meaning, there are also three aspects. The expression of the assertion is: The essence is unchanging like the sky, and the way it appears cannot be transformed like fire and water. "The refutation of that is: If it is only unchanging, it would entail asserting a permanent self, it would entail being one, and it would entail that liberation through effort is impossible, because impure awareness
