Like clouds obscuring the sun of wisdom. Wisdom, like the Dharmakaya, is complete with purity, not dwelling with the thoughts of the mind, like the sun. As it says: The mind is the basis of all habits, it is the impurity of sentient beings. The mind grasps at objects, therefore it is the nature of samsara. And again: Wisdom is separate from the basis of memory. In the Klong Drug Pa, it also says: If the self-nature of mind and wisdom are not distinguished, it is like the sun obscured by clouds, unable to perform the function of outward appearance. Moreover, the mind is the basis, source, accumulator, and instigator of all actions, afflictions, and habits, and always dwells in the house of ignorance, thus opposing and obscuring the sun of wisdom. In Rangshar it says: The mind gathers all habits. The mind accumulates all afflictions. The mind is the basis of all habits, and these habits are difficult to stop, therefore they obscure one's own appearance, dwelling together with ignorance. In the Garland of Pearls it says: Because the mind arises from aggregation, it is also mixed with impurity. The mind that accumulates the alaya, etc., is counted among the impurities. Therefore, because awareness possesses the obscuring mind, it is called sentient being. Because the mind accumulates karma, it performs the activity of wandering from one delusion to another. When the mind is liberated from awareness, purified, exhausted, and cleansed, it is called Buddha, because awareness is free from impurity. Therefore, the collection of impurities that should be abandoned is truly only the mind. As it says: When the mind is abandoned, one becomes a Buddha, the impurities of all embodied beings are exhausted. Beings wander by the mind, without it they cannot wander, therefore beings are like a wheel of delusion. The mind is also divided into two: the mind that grasps at objects, which holds onto the appearance, name, and generality of "this is this object"; and the mind that examines and analyzes the distinctions of that, the mind that grasps at the object. Therefore it is said: The mind grasps at the object. These also need to be explained in the common scriptures, such as: The cessation of the mind is manifested by the body. In the Commentary: Mind and mind.

…and the entry arising from… is also cut off, etc. In the Ratnakuta Sutra, it says: Also separated from mind, intellect, and consciousness, and not abandoning the state of samadhi. This is the inconceivable secret of the Tathagata's mind. Wisdom is: like the sky, the cessation of elaboration, the basis and source of immeasurable Buddha dharma, constantly abiding in the abode of the Dharmakaya together with the assembly of the ocean of wisdom, burning all the thickets of afflictions and habitual tendencies, existing like fire. As it says in the Garland of Pearls: By burning all discriminations, wisdom itself burns like fire, it is equal to the sky itself, it is the nature of emptiness, clarity, and awareness. Here, some ignorant people say that without mind, one would become like a rock or darkness, but this is because they have heard too little. Even without mind, there is wisdom, so awareness does not cease. When the mind of ignorance and delusion ceases, the sun of clear wisdom rises, just as day rises when night passes. Some people think that ignorance is the pervasive factor of awareness, so they think that when the mind ceases, awareness also ceases, which is a very big mistake. Although awareness pervades ignorance, ignorance does not pervade awareness, just like the wisdom of the Buddha. Because the mind is pervaded by ignorance, it is reasonable to be the pervasive factor of the mind, but because it does not pervade awareness, it is thought that ignorance turns away from the realm of awareness or is cut off. Therefore, when the mind ceases, the fundamental ignorance and its parts also cease, but awareness does not cease, because the basis of cessation is awareness. If there is no awareness, on what should one think it ceases? Here, because ignorance and its mental part cease, awareness expands into wisdom, enjoying two kinds of knowledge. As it says in the Garland of Pearls: The mind is free from all movement, it is not like a stone, it knows and is aware, it manifests light. Therefore, mind and wisdom are separate, and even in a common body, mind and mind-essence, which are naturally pure, are distinguished as two. Among them, mind is conceptual thought, the dharma of samsara; mind-essence is freedom from elaboration, the dharma of nirvana. In the Holy Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra, it also says: Mind to mind
