Verses(1)No regrets about danger. No regrets about abandoning the homeland for a small cause. No regrets about giving up wealth for the sake of Dharma, even if starving. No regrets about abandoning sins, even if falling into the lower realms. The six kinds of bad vessels that are far from the Dharma are: Like a pig, eating whatever is found, unable to practice. Like a self-important peacock, not good at associating with others. Like a stubborn boulder, not discerning the occasion. Like a greedy louse, unable to keep vows. Like a snake, with great malice, difficult to tame. Like a monkey, frivolous in behavior, unable to accomplish. Like an ox, dull in wisdom, not understanding the Dharma . Therefore, abandoning these is important for practice. The six Dharmas that do not allow bad vessels to control are: In this life, cast away greedy thoughts like bad copper, rejoice in virtuous deeds, and cherish them as treasures . Expel the arrogant and self-important demon, rely on a humble position, and regard the omens of accomplishment as fundamental. Abandon the hostile forces that cling to enemies, regard conceptual thoughts as friends, and bring inauspicious omens into the abyss . If one possesses these, one is a vessel for the excellent Dharma. The six kinds of wisdom that reach the ultimate Dharma are: Like being frightened by the Lord of Death, like being chased by an executioner, like being weary of samsara, like a wife treated by a bad husband. Like being disgusted with illusions, like seeing repulsive food, like being disappointed with worldly affairs, like being deceived by a friend, like a lazy farmer, like barren land, like relatives breaking ties, like children turning against oneself. Possessing these, the true Dharma reaches its peak. The six kinds of beings who do not possess these are: Even if they hear the Dharma, they only argue about words. Even if they teach, they only envy and slander. Even if they meditate, they only have conceptual thoughts and fantasies. Even if they contemplate, they only think about food and wealth. Even if they are alone, they only generate afflictions and conceptual thoughts. Even if they keep vows, they only accumulate afflictions. Examine these six kinds of beings carefully and stay away from them. The six Dharmas of looking inward at oneself are: Observe whether the connection with samsara has been severed. Observe whether there is still attachment and aversion towards enemies and friends. Observe whether one carries good wealth when walking. Observe whether one has reached the signs of accomplishment when meditating. Observe whether faith has declined after benefiting others. Observe whether pure visions arise at the time of death. If one observes in this way, it is the peak of good aspiration. The six faults that are far from the Dharma are: Not practicing great matters, not remembering death, but instead pursuing
