The six dharmas that are considered unnecessary in any case are: Without grasping the beginning of the path, whatever is done is unnecessary; without performing virtuous deeds, it is unnecessary in any case; without applying to the Dharma, longevity is unnecessary; if it is not Dharma, others' favors are unnecessary; without accumulating the two accumulations, resources are unnecessary; without accomplishing Bodhi, it is considered unnecessary in any case. The six dharmas of the guru, the guide of the path of liberation, are: For those wandering in the darkness, ignite the lamp of wisdom; lead those wandering on the edge of the cliff onto the correct path; use the great bliss boat to catch those swept away by the flood; lead those trapped in prison to the land of liberation; bring those drowning in the mud of suffering to the dry land of liberation; cut off those bound by grasping and clinging with the sword of wisdom. Therefore, regard the guru as the Buddha himself. The six dharmas of impermanent and decaying conditioned phenomena are: Because causes and conditions gather, it is the nature of decay; those born earlier will surely decay without all dying; the environment and beings are impermanent and changing, so they will surely decay; life has no certainty, death will cause it to decay; days and nights pass in an instant, so they will decay; birth will surely end in death, so contemplate decay. After that, the six benefits of applying to the Dharma are: Faith and hearing, as well as rejoicing, praising and entering, and even slightly practicing, can also create the seed of liberation that ends samsara. The six benefits of practicing properly are: Being respected and praised by all, and being protected by the gods, having much happiness in this life, being reborn in a higher realm after death, and ultimately achieving perfect Bodhi. The six faults of not possessing the Dharma are: Being obscured by ignorance, like a blind old woman; being skilled at deceiving samsara, like a prostitute; meaningless distraction, like a fairground show; being skilled at enticing appearances, like raising a young child; shallow wisdom, like a child's game; difficult to cut off illusions, like a grown fish; wasting one's life on small matters. The six faults of falling away from the Dharma are: Being despised by those inferior to oneself, having a bad reputation in the places of gods and humans, being abandoned by the holy ones like an impure vessel, being abandoned by the guardian deities, having many obstacles, wishes not being fulfilled, the glory of merit declining, and experiencing the suffering of the lower realms in the next life. The six faults of expecting the future are: When obtaining leisure and endowment, not practicing the path of Dharma, wasting one's life on the path of distraction, death being uncertain, like a lightning strike

The arising of the earth, and after death, falling into the evil realms of samsara, suffering intense pain that torments body and mind, remembering past regrets and being tormented, remaining for a long time without a time of liberation. There are six fearsome aspects of the state of samsara: When thinking about the suffering of humans, one feels weary. When thinking about the suffering of asuras, one's hair stands on end. When thinking about the suffering of gods, one feels like falling into an abyss. When thinking about the suffering of animals, one feels like crying. When thinking about the suffering of pretas, one's hair bristles. When thinking about the suffering of hell beings, one's heart trembles. Therefore, it is fitting to flee from the six realms. It is not only fitting to flee, but to completely escape. There are six dharmas that liberate from this: Abandon the view of permanence, cast away laziness for the future, postpone what is to be done tomorrow, dedicate whatever you have to the Dharma, abandon ordinary conduct and enter the ways of the teachings, purify negative karma and sins with the four powers, accumulate the two accumulations as much as possible with the ten virtuous actions, etc., integrate the three—preparation, main practice, and conclusion—into the path of Dharma. By doing this, one will quickly be liberated from the state of samsara. The six kinds of obstacles to the Dharma are: A great person distracted by arrogance and pride is an obstacle. A monk engaged in worldly affairs is an obstacle. A teacher who spends life in idle talk is an obstacle. A mantra practitioner who burns his own mind with the five poisons is an obstacle. A great meditator who lives by foolish and wrong livelihood is an obstacle. A person who holds onto illusory appearances based on intellect is an obstacle. Abandoning these obstacles and striving in the Dharma is most important. The six dharmas that are not mistaken and are beneficial are: Listen to the compassionate instructions of the guru. Rely on the authoritative words of the Buddhas with faith. Dedicate and count virtuous and non-virtuous deeds during the junctures of day and night. Contemplate where one will go in the future, the law of cause and effect, and dependent origination. Abandon attachment and clinging to the body and possessions. Place the tantras, agamas, and pith instructions upon the mind. By doing so, one will quickly attain Buddhahood. The six dharmas to observe properly and well are: See if worldly activities are beneficial. See that accumulated wealth and possessions are left behind when one departs. See that harm is returned for kindness. See that one departs alone from among many. See that farming and hoarding do not give one control over life and death. See that power, fame, and reputation are abandoned when one departs. Having seen these, apply them inwardly to oneself. The six truly meaningful and regretless things are: Even if one dies striving for the Dharma, there is no regret. Being in a low
