As it is said: If the seed is false, how can the fruit be true? (1) The aggregates that arise from self-grasping, self-grasping is actually false. This is how it is said. Secondly, desire and mind cannot be one, because if they were one, then when there is no attachment, it should also arise with attachment, because it is one with desire. Moreover, the attached and the possessor of attachment cannot exist simultaneously in the same continuum. It is also not other, because like the desire of another person, it will not harm me. The Root Wisdom Treatise says: If desire and the desirer are established as other, then why do the two together fully cognize? This is how it is said. Thirdly, when desire and other afflictions are separated and destroyed on one's own body, they are not seen inside or outside, so they cannot exist in me. The Engaging in Bodhisattva Behavior says: Afflictions do not dwell in the object, not in the senses, not in between, not in others, if they do not dwell in these places, then where do these afflictions dwell, harming all beings? This is like an illusion, therefore, one should abandon fear in the heart, because knowing this reason, one should strive. Meaninglessly, why should I be harmed by hells and others in meaninglessness? Abandon afflictions afflictions with the eye of wisdom, remove them from my mind, where will they go? Where do they dwell, coming to harm me? I, this foolish one, am pointlessly without effort. This is how it is said. Refuting bondage has three aspects: the bound and the binder cannot be one or different, the permanent and the impermanent cannot be in samsara, there is no middle. Firstly, when karma and afflictions bind sentient beings in samsara, the bound and the binder cannot be one, because the agent and the object do not exist, just as the prison itself is not the chain. It is also not other, because contact has been prevented, and if there is no contact, then the binder will not harm, like the chains of another continent. Secondly, when sentient beings wander in samsara, do permanent phenomena wander or do impermanent phenomena wander? Permanent phenomena do not wander, because they cannot move. Impermanent phenomena do not wander, because they cease when they wander from one to another, so there is no wanderer. The continuum does not wander, because there is no momentary contact, so the continuum itself is not established. The Root Wisdom Treatise says: If they are permanent, they do not wander, if they are not permanent, they also do not wander.

Ra. Sentient beings are also the same in this respect. As for being without a middle, since there is no beginning or end, the present middle is negated. Since there is no edge, there can be no middle, just as the edge of the moon has no dust particles and therefore cannot be an edge, the middle is the same and therefore not established. As it says in that very text: "Cyclic existence has no beginning or end." And: "It has no before and no after. Where there is no beginning or end, where is the middle?" There are three refutations of liberation: it is refuted because there is no cyclic existence; there is no liberation at the time of being bound or not bound; and it cannot be either a real entity or a non-entity. First, liberation is refuted because cyclic existence is refuted, just like a prison, because liberation without being bound is impossible. Second, is there liberation at the time of being bound, at the time of being liberated, or in between the two? There is no liberation at the time of being bound, because they are contradictory. There is no need for liberation at the time of being liberated, because one is already liberated. It is impossible to be liberated in between the two, because if bondage and liberation meet, they become one and there is no gap, and if they do not meet, it is impossible to be in between the two. The Root Wisdom says: "If one is temporarily bound, one cannot be liberated. One who is not bound should not be liberated either. If one who is bound is being liberated, bondage and liberation should occur at the same time." And the Mother Sutra says: "Form is neither bound nor liberated. Because there is no form, it is neither bound nor liberated. Because form is empty, it is neither bound nor liberated." It has shown that there is neither bondage nor liberation. The Secret Essence says: "There is no bondage and no liberation. The Buddha's Dharma is spontaneously perfect from the beginning. To teach this, he performs various displays." Third, is liberation a real entity or a non-entity? It cannot be a real entity, because it has no basis. If it is a non-entity, it cannot be obtained because it is not established as a basis. The Root of Wisdom says: "There is no abandonment and no attainment, no cessation and no permanence, no stopping and no arising. That is called nirvana. For the time being, nirvana is not a real entity. It would become the nature of old age and death. That which has no old age and death is not a real entity. If nirvana is not a real entity, how can a non-entity be possible? That which does not depend on conditions, that non-entity does not exist. When the Bhagavan enters nirvana, it is not visible as existing, just as not
