Regarding the knowledge of the four methods of instruction, the five dharmas for the keenest are: settling appearance as mind, settling mind itself as emptiness, settling appearance and emptiness as inseparable, settling multiplicity as one taste, and settling wisdom as continuous. The middling are settled through five examples: Using sleep and dreams as examples, settling appearance as mind. Using the example of empty space, settling mind itself as emptiness. Using the example of water and ice, settling multiplicity as one taste. Using the example of a continuous river, settling wisdom as uninterrupted. If all phenomena of appearance and existence are gathered into the condition of a single individual, they are gathered into the Great Perfection. This is also gathered into the four: view, meditation, conduct, and result. The view is awareness of emptiness, the meditation is self-radiant self-clarity, the conduct is self-liberation from attachment and aversion, and the result is undiminished thorough penetration. For those of middling faculty, the four ornaments are applied: to the view of emptiness, apply the ornament of wisdom; to the meditation of self-clarity, apply the ornament of non-grasping; to the conduct of self-liberation, apply the ornament of self-controlled peace; to the result of stainless thorough penetration, apply the ornament of naked awareness. Again, for the condition of a single individual, it is gathered into the four: view, meditation, conduct, and means, with the result arising effortlessly. That is, view is uncorrected, meditation is non-conceptual, conduct is non-attachment, and means is non-distraction. In the four introductions: the uncorrected view is introduced as primordial wisdom, the uncorrected meditation is introduced as ordinary awareness, the non-attached conduct is introduced as the six senses being relaxed, and the non-distracted means is introduced as continuous mindfulness. Regarding the conditions of the three types of individuals—keen, middling, and dull—the twenty-one categories are shown without omission. Among these, the keenest have: knowing what is, abiding in the natural state, directly cutting through, benefiting the mind, holding mindfulness, not generating conceptual thoughts, and manifest realization. There are three ways of placing: placing like a cloud in the sky, placing like a self-grinding mill when the water has stopped, and placing like a person who has finished their work. For the middling, if one does not know what is, one cannot distinguish between delusion and purification; if one does not abide in the natural state, awareness is lost to external conditions; if one does not directly cut through, one follows after objects; if one does not benefit the mind, one becomes an ordinary person.
