Long. Among the three types of motivation: unspecified motivation, and virtuous motivation, the first, non-virtuous motivation, is further divided into two: the motivation to protect from fear, and the motivation to aspire to goodness. The first, in order to protect from the fears of this life's illnesses, the fears of evil spirits, the fears of the king's punishment, the fears of famine, etc., one practices Dharma, from the lower Shravaka Vehicle to the higher Clear Light Great Perfection, whichever one practices, if it does not protect from those fears, then there is no benefit from it, so it must be abandoned. The second, the motivation to aspire to goodness, is to promise to sell the Dharma from the beginning, thinking that if I ask for Dharma, receive an empowerment and transmission, and do some retreat and practice, I will gain some profit, etc., as well as praise, fame, and reputation. Through the three, gain, praise, and reputation, one obtains the four comforts of food, clothing, etc., in this life, and the four opposites that one does not want, these eight are the eight worldly dharmas. Therefore, using the sacred Dharma to accomplish this life, if it is like sneaking around, like a pack mule, like rotten wool, even like rotten thread, one exchanges the sacred Dharma as merchandise, with worldly goods such as food and clothing, and uses Dharma to accomplish worldly affairs, like a worldly old man holding a thin gun to acquire wealth. These two, using Dharma to accomplish worldly affairs, there is no worse method in the world. As the Unequaled Dagpo said, if one does not practice Dharma as Dharma, Dharma will become the cause of going to the lower realms. If one does not consume offerings, one must experience burning robes, burning bowls, burning belts, burning molten iron, etc., so this must be abandoned. As Sakya's Four Separations from Attachment says: If you are attached to this life, you are not a Dharma practitioner. So it is said. Then what name should be given to such a person? They are a seller of the Dharma, a bloodsucker of the Three Jewels, a gatherer of the Sangha, so they must be abandoned like poison. Like this, driven by the motivation to aspire to goodness, one pretends to practice from the lower Shravaka Vehicle to the Great Perfection. For nine years, one seals the door and retreats, pretending to work hard at retreat and practice, but if one gains profit, praise, and reputation, one says that this is the fruit of practicing the Dharma, other than that

Abu said that even the seed of liberation will not be planted. This is like a swindler scattering deer hair on donkey meat and selling it, because using a bad nature like donkey meat, covering it with sacred Dharma like deer hair, and then selling the Dharma, just like worldly people say "selling mistakes, selling mistakes" to those who make small mistakes, it is said to this kind of person "selling Dharma, selling Dharma." Second, the unrecordable motivation is that there is actually nothing else to pursue, except to promote the Dharma a little, there is nothing else to pursue, like a foolish person imitating people, or a dog chasing after the footprints of no one, or like shooting empty arrows, there is no way to predict both good and non-good, so Abu said that even the seed of liberation will not be planted in this way. The Lama said that although this has no good motivation, it has no bad motivation, so the seed of liberation will be planted. Third, good motivations are divided into three types: lower, middle, and upper. First, the motivation of the lower person is to hope that he will be liberated from the three evil realms and attain the status of gods and humans. For this reason, from the Shravaka Vehicle below to the Great Perfection of Light above, he practices, but with the idea of an ordinary person, he will not regard the long road, shortcut, and fast road to obtain the heavens as the cause of obtaining Buddhahood. With such a motivation, even if one guards the 153 precepts of the Pratimoksha vows and wears the three Dharma robes, one will not exceed the thoughts of an old man, but will only be an old man who holds the vows, an old man who has discipline. Similarly, if one practices the peaceful self-born deity generation stage, one will be reborn as a desire realm god; if one practices an angry self-born deity, one will be reborn as a demon and Rudra. Abu said: "Opening your mouth and staring your eyes to practice the deity, you will turn into a demon." Similarly, even if one practices the originally pure Trekchö and the spontaneously accomplished Tögal, if one carries it with the accumulation of merit and purification of obscurations, one will be reborn in the four formless realms and the seventeen form realms. If you cannot carry it, you will not be able to transcend the situation of a mouse and a bear. Sakya Pandita said: When a fool practices Mahamudra.
