因为施予无畏，所以在娑婆世界也普遍被称为施予无畏。之后又以偈颂的方式广说了观世音的赞颂。 佛华严经中记载：商主之子宝贤前往持舟山，向观世音自在祈祷，请问菩萨行。观世音菩萨伸出右手，其右手具有阎浮河金色，遍布无量光网，散发各种庄严的云彩，放在宝贤的头顶上，说道：善男子，我安住于菩萨行之门——大慈悲。因此，如来也从不离开，为了所有众生的需要而常住于此。通过布施、形色各异的形象、光芒、声音、行为、佛法开示，以及各种与众生心愿相符的神变，来成办和成熟众生。为了使众生从各种恐惧中解脱，如悬崖、迷茫、束缚、生命危险，以及缺乏资具、没有生计、没有名声、眷属中的羞怯、死亡、恶趣、道路上的黑暗恐惧、不平等的命运、离别苦、与不喜者相遇、身心不适、轮回的恐惧以及所有众生的痛苦和不悦中解脱，为了使一切众生都能得到庇护，我发下了这个誓愿。为了平息所有众生的恐惧，也在世间以忆念之门加持。为了使众生远离一切恐惧，也在世间确立了自己的名号。为了使众生能如时行持，也加持了自己的身体，使其与一切众生的无量差别相符。为了使我的身体能将所有众生从恐惧中解脱出来，并获得一切佛法，我发起了无上圆满菩提心，永不退转。

Because of giving fearlessness, it is universally known in this Saha world as giving fearlessness. Then again, the praise of Avalokiteśvara was extensively spoken in verses. Furthermore, in the Avataṃsaka Sutra, it is said that the merchant's son, Precious Jewel, went to Mount Boat-Holder and prostrated to Avalokiteśvara, requesting the practice of a Bodhisattva. Avalokiteśvara extended his right hand, which was the color of Jambu River gold, adorned with immeasurable nets of light, and scattering clouds of various ornaments, and placed it on Precious Jewel's head, saying: 'Son of noble family, I abide in the gate of the practice of a Bodhisattva, which is great compassion. Therefore, the Tathāgata also never departs and remains close to the needs of all sentient beings. By means of generosity, various forms and colors, radiating light, sounds, conduct, teaching the Dharma, and various miraculous powers that accord with the thoughts of beings, he accomplishes and matures sentient beings. In order to completely avert the various fears in the minds of sentient beings, such as cliffs, confusion, bondage, threats to life, lack of resources, lack of livelihood, lack of fame, shyness in company, death, evil destinies, fear of darkness on the path, unequal fortune, separation from loved ones, encountering the unpleasant, discomfort of body and mind, the fears of samsara, and the suffering and displeasure of all sentient beings, and in order to be a refuge for all beings, I have made this aspiration manifest. In order to pacify the fears of all sentient beings, I have also blessed the gate of remembrance in the world. In order to free sentient beings from all fears, I have also established my name in the world. In order to be perceived by beings as they go according to the times, I have also blessed my body to be equal to the infinite variety of forms of all beings. In order that this body of mine may liberate all sentient beings from fear and attain all the Buddha's teachings, I generate the mind of unsurpassed perfect enlightenment and never turn back.'

They also do so. Having said this, the wise Lord Avalokiteśvara spoke these words: I am a Buddha-son, knowing one gate of liberation. The essence of wisdom is the power of compassion of all the Victors. I have appeared to protect all beings and to completely tame them. Like loving oneself, I constantly benefit all. I save many beings from all suffering. Those who are bound, even given to enemies, pierced in the body, and likewise imprisoned, hearing my name, those bound and seized will be liberated. Kings who have committed crimes, killing and abandoning. At that time, if they also remember my name, the arrow will not strike their body, even if struck by a sharp weapon, it will not penetrate, but will bounce back. Even if they go into the circle of the powerful, those who quarrel will conquer all enemies and gain fame. Fame, friends, lineage, and wealth will increase. Remembering my name, they will be invincible. Whoever remembers my name, they will go to the forest fearing thieves, fearing enemies, whether lion, bear, leopard, beast of prey, wild yak, vulture, or any other creature, they will conquer all enemies and become fearless. Some remember my name, even if they are thrown into a great abyss out of hatred, or thrown into burning coals and flames, the flames will turn into a treasure of water filled with lotuses. If one remembers my name for a moment, even if thrown into the ocean, one will not die in it. One will not be carried away by the water, nor burned in the fire, one will not die meaninglessly, all wishes will be fulfilled. Wooden shackles, ropes, iron chains, and likewise falling, being despised and scorned, likewise deceived and seduced, being insulted, threatened, scolded, and degraded, just by remembering my name, one will attain liberation. Those who frown, squint in various ways, and those who always harbor hatred and speak unpleasant words, hearing and remembering my name, will become pleasant to speak. Just by seeing, a mind of love will arise. Some who remember my name, using corpses, mantras, and curses for the purpose of harming, their enemies will always be subdued by it.

Even if my name is remembered for just a moment, With parents, relatives, friends, loved ones, and everything, There will be no separation, nor will there be association with hatred. Wealth will not be exhausted, nor will one become impoverished. Whoever remembers my name, After dying from here, one will not fall into Avici hell, One will not be reborn as an animal, a hungry ghost, nor will one enter a place of no leisure. Pure beings will be born as gods and humans. Whoever remembers my name, One will not become blind, lame, deaf, or crippled, One will not become hunchbacked or blind, but will become eloquent and beautiful. For many billions of kalpas, one will possess all faculties. Whoever remembers my name, Pure beings, after dying from here, in the ten directions Of the world, will manifest as Buddhas. One will see the Buddhas and also hear the Dharma. Like this and other numerous methods, To tame beings, it is immeasurable and inexhaustible. Thus it was said. From the "Great Destruction": If someone intends to harm him, If executioners aim to stab him with weapons, If one remembers the Lord Avalokiteśvara, Those weapons will shatter into pieces. Even if those weapons were to strike, They will fall from the hand to the ground. They will not cause the slightest harm to his body, Except for the karma of past deeds. Thus it was said. From the "Brief Summary of the Benefits of the Great Compassion Mantra": Whoever goes into the mountains, wilderness, or secluded places, Encounters tigers, wolves, fierce wild animals, Foxes, snakes, demons, and evil spirits, If they hear this mantra being recited, they will not be harmed. Whoever enters rivers or oceans, Encounters venomous dragons, ferocious crocodiles, Yakshas, rakshasas, fish, and turtles, Upon hearing this mantra, they will scatter separately. If someone enters a house of curses or poison, And is harmed by poisoned food and drink, If one single-mindedly recites the Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara's Dharani, The poison will turn into nectar-like food and drink. When a pregnant woman is giving birth, And is disturbed by demons, suffering unbearably, If one single-mindedly recites the Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara's Dharani, The evil spirits will flee, and she will give birth peacefully. If fierce nāga demons exhale poisonous breath, And one is threatened by feverish illness, nearing death, If one single-mindedly recites the Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara's Dharani, The epidemic will be dispelled, and life will be prolonged. If one is afflicted by nāga demon diseases, causing swelling, Developing unsightly sores, oozing pus and blood, If one single-mindedly recites the Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara's Dharani, And applies saliva three times, the swelling will subside. If sentient beings, due to afflictions, engage in unwholesome deeds, And are harmed by curses, mantras, and enemies, If one single-mindedly recites the Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara's Dharani, The curse and evil spirit will rebound upon the one who cast them. In times of great sin, the degenerate age, and the decline of the Dharma, When the fire of desire blazes, and the mind is deluded and perverse, When husbands and wives develop attachment to others, And day and night, perverse thoughts continue unceasingly, If one recites the Great Compassionate Avalokiteśvara's Dharani, The fire of desire will be extinguished, and the perverse mind will be dispelled. If I were to extensively describe the power of this dharani, Even if I spoke for countless eons, it would not be exhausted. As stated above, these are the benefits of the Thousand-Handed, Thousand-Eyed Avalokiteśvara Dharani, but merely holding the name of Avalokiteśvara should also be regarded as having the same benefits. Furthermore, in the root tantra of Avalokiteśvara, the *Lotus Net*, Avalokiteśvara explained how he practiced the conduct of a bodhisattva in the past and the rituals of the vidyā-mantras. Therefore, Mañjuśrī and Samantabhadra, along with other bodhisattvas and consorts who purify all obscurations, praised it. The Buddhas of the ten directions also praised it with endless words.
