Thus it is said, "I perform the close retreat of the marks." After the close retreat is completed, one should engage in practice. After the practice is completed, one should not be separated from the close retreat. One should connect them and strive with intense diligence. 4) The activities of inspiring the samaya and making them pleased are twofold. That is: "Offerings with supreme samaya, please them with encouraging words." As it is said. The term 'Khaṭvāṅga-mūla' has two aspects: the offering of union and the offering of samaya substances. Among them, 1) the offering of union is: The samaya of the secret mantra Vajrayana, the basis for accomplishing supreme and common siddhis, the supreme means of offering the unsurpassed secret offering. This again has two aspects: the union of meaning and the union of signs. The meaning of that 1) is to look at the wisdom eye of the oral instruction. At the time of the union of signs 2), there are four meanings: with what kind of consort to unite, with what kind of means to unite, to please with the offering of union, and to show the faults and merits of union. Even in this way of showing, it is called abandoning by conduct. 1) There are also three ways to unite with what kind of consort: The best 1) is one who is capable of samadhi, that is, a vidyādhara of light, one should know that one can unite with all. The medium 2) is one who has accomplished the deity and obtained common siddhis, one invites the goddess Pañjikā and begins the union. The lowest 3) Even if one cannot do so, one has become a guarantee of secret mantras, and the guru's instructions and special practices are not mistaken. Knowing the rituals and being accustomed to them, having the qualities of wisdom and samadhi, both the guru and the consort have them, then begin the union, and also examine the conduct of the consort, that is, the mother of the five families. As explained above, it should be understood. No matter how much time is spent, once the experience of samadhi is gained, one should enter the union of close retreat and practice. 2) How to unite with what kind of means is: That consort who has been definitely examined, should be well bathed, the body should be anointed with fragrant scents, and well adorned with clothes and ornaments, and placed in a large mandala, and the oral instructions of the ultimate truth and the conventional truth should be shown. Among them, in the ultimate truth, as it comes from the ravine, the view of the stainless mirror is shown. In the conventional truth, the oral instruction to meditate on the form of the mother deity Kroḍīśvarīmā.
