Furthermore, in the past, in the midst of the auspicious snow mountains, in a lush forest rich in medicinal herbs, there was a monkey king who lived near a great Nyagrodha tree, which was like a dense cloud, possessing excellent and fragrant fruits. One branch of that tree extended into the water flowing from the valley. When many monkeys together ate the fruits of that tree, the monkey king would watch behind them, admonishing the monkey troop, saying: "Do not eat all the fruits on this branch of the tree, nor pluck the fruits of other branches." And they did accordingly. After some time, a fruit on that branch, which was not yet ripe and not very large, was covered by the friends gathering the leaves of the tree, and the serving monkeys did not see it. Later, it gradually grew, becoming excellent in color, fragrance, and taste. Due to ripening, the stem broke, and it fell into the flowing water. The fruit gradually drifted to a place where a king and his consorts were playing in the water, surrounded by a wide bank. The fragrance of the fruit overwhelmed all the scents of the perfumes used by the consorts for bathing. They smelled the fragrance, looked around, and found the fruit, so they all gathered there, wondering what it was. The king tasted the fruit and found it very delicious, so he became attached to it. He thought: "Eating such a fruit, even without ruling the kingdom, is like being a king." He thought: "Not far upstream from this river, there must be a good tree, and this fruit must have fallen from that tree, and the fruit must still be fresh, with excellent color, fragrance, and taste." So, he led an army and entered the dense forest along the riverbank. He saw the king of trees and went there. Seeing the monkeys terrified and suffering from the loud noise caused by being struck by stones and the like, the Bodhisattva felt compassion for them. Like a bird, he jumped from the top of that great tree to a mountain, tied a very long vine, longer than the width of the path, with firm roots to his feet, and then jumped back to the top of that tree. Because he had tied both feet, he struggled to reach there, grabbed the branch of that tree with his hands, and allowed the monkeys to walk on the stretched vine. The monkeys were afraid, and their bodies were pressed by the tree. Although their bodies were injured, their minds did not waver, and all the monkeys were rescued from fear. Seeing this, the king and his entourage were amazed, thinking: This person is both brave and wise, does not consider his own interests, and is full of compassion for others. The king commanded those people: This master of the monkeys, because the monkeys fled and were pressed underneath, and was exhausted from acting as a bridge for a long time, is unable to stand up on his own. I will support him, and cut the vine and the branches of the banyan tree with two arrows at the same time. According to the command, the king lowered him onto the support. The one who had fainted because of the injuries to his body was placed on a soft mattress, his wounds were washed with medicine, and after he had recovered a little, the king said to him: You gave up your life and rescued them from the bridge with compassion, what is the relationship between these people and you? What are these monkeys to you? The Bodhisattva Monkey King said: Please listen to me, these respectful people have entrusted the burden of kingship to me. Therefore, these people are like my children. It is to bear that burden that I do this. For a long time, we have been connected like this. Because we were born of the same race, we are so friendly, and living together, we are like relatives. The king was surprised and said again: Ministers and others are for the sake of the king, not the king for their sake. Therefore, for the sake of my slaves, why did you give up your body? The Bodhisattva said: King, it is true that doing so is correct, but the rule of the king is like that. I see that kind of rule as terrible. The suffering of unfamiliarity.

The monkey king replied, "Even if my body is cut off, I will repay the respect shown to me by my fellow beings, and I have nothing to be unhappy about. Even if I die, I will gain happiness, gain a spotless reputation, be honored by the king, and have no fear after death. I have gained these merits. Those who rely on a master without compassion will receive the opposite faults, and there is nothing else but to fall into the flames of hell." Then, the monkey king taught the king, saying, "King, just as I have taught you, you should also rule the country with Dharma, treat your subjects and the helpless like a father, so that they all receive benefit and happiness, so that your Dharma and politics, reputation and merit will increase, and you will attain happiness in this life and the next." The king also developed faith after hearing this. The monkey king gave up his body and ascended to the heavenly realm. Again, in the past, in Varanasi, there was a king named Brahma-datta, who was rich and ruled the country according to Dharma. In his country, there was a captain named Wealth, whose wealth was comparable to that of the son of Vaishravana. The captain had a handsome and beautiful son named Wealth-joy, when the Blessed One was incarnated as him, he was very proficient in all letters and divination, and his wisdom was bright. He was compassionate and liked to give alms, using his father's wealth to satisfy the needs of the poor. Later, his father died, and the king appointed the young Wealth-joy as the great captain, allowing him to engage in commercial trade, and gave him a large amount of alms. Once, he thought, "These possessions of my father, if I use them to give alms, what is so amazing about that? I should use the money I earn myself to give alms." So he said, "Who wants to go to sea trade with me, and if there are no dice, amulets, shipwrights, and ransoms, then prepare the goods!"

The captain had the diviner praise the various jewels in the sea, and because many people desired wealth, they boarded the ship until it was almost unbearable. That captain had them praise not the virtues of the sea, but said that in the sea there were fish monsters, waves, abysses, crocodiles, whirlpools in the water, black winds, robbers, and various demons, so those who did not care about their lives and did not care about their parents, etc., should depart. Because there were few brave men and many cowards, most of them withdrew. In this way, they announced three times, used the ropes three times, and the ship was propelled by a strong tailwind, reaching the Isle of Jewels, and the diviner said: On this Isle of Jewels, there are also agates like precious jewels, so please examine them carefully and take them. A female demon named Crane Chick Maiden will seduce men and corrupt them. Whoever eats the intoxicating fruit will be unconscious for seven days, so be careful of those. On this Isle of Jewels, non-humans can tolerate staying for seven days, but after that time, before anything is accomplished, they will release the wind that carries the ship away. According to these instructions, they carefully and cautiously filled the entire ship with fine jewels, and then safely returned to Jambudvipa and made great offerings. In this way, they accomplished it six times and made great offerings in that city of Varanasi. At that time, in other places, five captains went to sea, but because the ships were damaged, they were unsuccessful, and they thought: The great captain Wealth Joy is known to be powerful due to his merit, and through his power, we will also be able to obtain wealth. So they prayed to Wealth Joy, and he said: Alas, the nature of the great sea is that the seventh ship will be damaged.
