He didn't say anything else either. Your body and life are now at peace. Hearing this, the wild men developed faith and generated the mind of enlightenment. It is said that the Brahmin's son, through this cause, transcended ninety kalpas of samsara and gradually attained great enlightenment. On another occasion, when the Buddha Bhagavan was residing in the Light Garden, a monk was suffering from a pustular disease, with pus and blood flowing from his body. Everyone disliked him, and he was living in a dilapidated room outside the monastery. At that time, through the Buddha's miraculous power, without anyone knowing, he alone went to the sick person. Through the Buddha's power, Indra, the lord of the gods, holding a sacred vase filled with pure water, which was made from merit, arrived before the Tathagata. The Bhagavan extended his hand, which was made from a hundred merits, and emitted great rays of light from his five fingers, illuminating the gods and many attendants. The Tathagata himself emitted light from the crown of his head towards the sick monk, illuminating the sick person, and as soon as the light touched him, the patient's suffering was eliminated. The monk, whose body was covered in pus and blood, sought refuge and, unable to prostrate, the Tathagata took the vase from Indra's hand with his right hand and poured it on the sick monk's head. With his left hand, he washed all the wounds, and all the diseases were healed. The monk was very happy and prostrated to the Bhagavan, saying: "Compassionate and great, unsurpassed father, king of physicians, I prostrate to you." He then requested, "Now that the disease of my body is healed, please teach me the Dharma to heal the disease of my mind." The Bhagavan taught him the Dharma, and also said, "Considering your kindness to be very great, I will repay you." The Buddha made him happy, and the monk was delighted and attained the fruit of an Arhat. The divine attendants said, "Bhagavan, you yourself wiped and bathed him, how great is this kindness!" The Buddha replied, "In the past, countless eons ago, there was a wicked king who did not practice Dharma, and after consulting with five hundred ministers, who

They said, "If you are authorized to punish those who violate the law, we should share whatever property is obtained." At that time, the five hundred constantly whipped and beat, thus obtaining much property, and they did so. For those who had no property, they caused harm even to the point of endangering their lives. At that time, a layperson who had slightly violated the law was brought before the five hundred to be whipped and beaten. Those ministers heard it said, "This layperson is extremely virtuous," so they released him without harming him. One of those five hundred was this monk, and that layperson was the Blessed One himself. Therefore, a Bodhisattva repays the kindness of countless eons ago, whether the kindness is light or heavy, and will never forget it until attaining perfect enlightenment." Again, in the past, countless eons ago, the Blessed One himself was a caravan leader named "Söndren." He and his companions, friends, partners, and men were proficient in writing, crafts, arithmetic, commercial terms, and sixty-four arts, etc. At that time, one companion said, "Young man, do you not know the faults of going elsewhere, nor the faults of others attacking, nor the faults of the wilderness, nor the faults of water, nor the faults of scarce food, nor the faults of ferocious beasts and thieves in an unfriendly wilderness, nor the faults of a large ship sinking when going to sea, nor the fear of rakshasa women, and all harms? Young man, do you use the property of other parents? Do you not know the nature of my suffering, deceived by non-dharma? Do others not consider these light properties obtained through great effort, as mentioned above?" Having heard these words of encouragement, he pondered, and thus encouraged his companion. He said, "Accumulating wealth now is so painful, therefore, I should properly accumulate wealth." Then he said to his parents, "Father and mother, I am going to trade and am able to do the work of a caravan leader. Son, considering that there are countless faults in going elsewhere, do not go! Because there are many family treasures up to seven generations, there will be no mistakes."

It seems that way. He said to them, "Abandon the thought of transferring enjoyment elsewhere." The father said, "It is not so. If the wealth accumulated by seven generations has not been used, I am unwilling to use what they have left behind. Please allow me to leave." His parents did not strongly object, and he entered the ocean. The wind carried him to the Isle of Jewels, and he filled the ship with priceless gems. He returned, crossed the ocean, and while bathing in the sea, the precious jewel he wore on his hand fell into the great ocean. Immediately, he took up a water scoop and, with great courage, thought, "For the sake of the precious jewel, I must dry up the ocean!" As soon as he thought this, millions of billions of gods came to help him, and the wind and fire also helped, so he began to scoop out the water. The ocean god said: "This ocean is boundless and inexhaustible. Even if it changes a little, the ocean remains the same. Friend, just as you desire to measure the path of the sky, how can you possibly dry up the ocean?" He said to those gods again: "Gods, the ocean is not boundless. The end of the ocean can also be measured. My diligence is boundless and immeasurable. I can dry up the great ocean! Ocean gods, look at my power! Look at the sky filled with gods! Countless gods are my friends, and they will blaze, burn, and also become wind. Look at me scattering water into the sky! Look at how there are no beings there! The assembly of gods will become my friends, and they will burn and dry up the water in the sky. The wind in the sky is my friend, and I will not shrink from drying up the ocean. If the ocean does not return my jewel, I possess a field of merit and power. My field of merit is the Buddha Jewel, and the Dharma, which is without elaboration and definitely leads to renunciation. The son of the guide, there is the Sangha Jewel. These belong to me, not to the ocean god." After he said this, the ocean god said: "Good man, your words are true. Indeed, you possess the power of diligence. You will obtain the jewel, and I will give it to you. Offer it to the Three Jewels!" After saying this, he gave it to him. ༈ Again,

In the land of Ona, in Varanasi, Shariputra had a wealthy patron named Sotsi who was skilled in various arts. He transformed all his wealth into gold, filling seven vases, which he buried underground. When this patron passed away, due to his attachment to the gold vases, he was reborn as a great venomous snake, guarding the gold. Later, after a long time, the village also fell into ruin and became deserted. The snake was repeatedly reborn as a snake there, guarding the gold vases and lying there. After countless tens of thousands of years, the last rebirth of the snake thought: 'Because of my attachment to this gold, I have become so ugly. Now I should offer it to the field of merit.' Thinking this, it went near the road, intending to call out to people. Then, a person came along the road, and the snake called out to him. The person heard the sound but ignored it and continued on his way. The snake called out again, saying, 'Come to me.' The person said, 'You are very venomous and will kill me.' The snake said, 'If I were to harm you, I could do so even if you didn't come to me.' The person was afraid and went to the snake. The snake said to him, 'I have some gold vases here. Can you be entrusted with doing some merit?' If you don't, I will harm you.' The person said, 'I can.' The snake pointed to a gold vase and said, 'Use this to offer a feast to the Sangha. On that day, I will also come, so come and greet me.' As the snake said, the person offered a feast to the Sangha. He took a box and went to the snake on the day of the feast. The snake was very happy and entered the box. As the person carried the box away, he met another person on the road. That person asked him where he was coming from, asking three times, but the person carrying the snake said nothing. After being asked three times, the snake thought that this person was not answering him, and the snake became angry and thought of releasing its venom. But then it thought: 'This person is doing merit for me and helping me, so in order to repay his kindness, I should not release my venom. Even if he has made a mistake, I should forgive him.' So it said, 'Put me down in a secluded place for a while.' The snake reproached itself, repented of its faults, and was then carried again. When he arrived at the place of the Sangha, the Sangha
